A distinguished family of Italian Jews tracing their descent from Gherescion (Grassin) Cantarini, who, when one year old, was driven from his native place, Asolo, and was taken to Padua (1547), where his descendants were leaders of the community for the next 300 years. A sketch pedigree, including the best-known members of the family, may be made up as follows:
