Mandl, Moritz

Austrian dramatist and journalist; born in Presburg May 13, 1840. He went to Vienna and there joined the editorial staff of the "Wanderer" (1862) and later that of the "Neue Freie Presse." Since 1877 he has been assistant editor of the "Fremdenblatt."
Mandl has written: "Deutschland und der Augenblick" (Leipsic, 1861), a pamphlet that won some attention; "Käthchen von Heilbronn" (Vienna, 1873), a German epic; a dramatic prologue to the Vienna "Kleist-Feier" of 1876; and several plays.
