German Hebraist; born June 14, 1813, at Breslau; died March 9, 1885. In 1848 he settled as a merchant at Posen. After his retirement from business, in 1871, he prepared a large Hebrew commentary on the Targum Onḳelos, which was published posthumously by his son-in-law Joseph Perles, under the title "Bi'ure Onḳelos" (Munich, 1888). This commentary, which contains many valuable critical and exegetical notes, is one of the most important reference works on the Targum Onḳelos.
