American rabbi; born in Russia Feb. 14, 1865. He was taken to New York when hardly one year old, and was educated in the public schools there and in the College of the City of New York. Schulman took his rabbinical diploma from the Hochschule für die Wissenschaft des Judenthums in Berlin. He has occupied rabbinates in Helena, Mont., and Kansas City, Mo., and in 1901 was elected associate rabbi at Temple Beth-El, New York city, becoming rabbi on the election of Dr. Kohler to the presidency of the faculty of Hebrew Union College. He was awarded the degree of D.D. by the Jewish Theological Seminary of America, 1904.
