This word, borrowed from the Phoenician, is written in full in Preisigke 358.12 (iii/B.C.). See also the horological inscr. of iii/B.C. quoted by Herwerden Lex. s.v. γνώμωνἐπὶ τῶν ἰῶτα (sc. γραμμῶν) φερόμενον σημαίνει ζεφύρου πνοήν. Cf. Moulton Gr. ii. § 70.
