אֲבִיאֵל (“father of strength,” i.e. strong), [Abiel], pr.n. m.

(1)  1 Chronicles 11:32, see אֲבִי־עַלְבוֹן.

(2) the grandfather of king Saul, 1 Samuel 9:1, 14:51. In the genealogy, as found 1 Chronicles 8:33, 9:39, Net is said to have been Saul’s grandfather, but according to 1Sa 14:1-52:5l, he is rather to be taken as his paternal uncle.
