Gesenius' Hebrew and Chaldee Definition

יוֹבָב (probably i.q. يباب “a desert,” properly a crying out, a place where wild beasts cry out; from the root يبّ, יָבַב), [Jobab], pr.n. of a region of the Joktanite Arabs, Genesis 10:29; 1 Chronicles 1:23. A trace of this name may be found perhaps in Ptolemy, who mentions near the Sachalitæ on the Indian sea, the Ἰωβαρίται, or, according to the conjecture of Salmasius and Bochart, Ἰωβαβίται (ρ being changed into β). See Bochart, Phaleg. ii. 29.

[“(2) pr.n. of an Edomite king, Genesis 36:33, 34 Genesis 36:34; 1 Chronicles 1:44, 45 1 Chronicles 1:45.

(3) of a Canaanite king, Joshua 11:1.

(4)  1 Chronicles 8:9.

(5)  1 Chronicles 8:18.”]
