1) a fountain at Rephidim, in the desert of Sin; so called because the Israelites murmured against God

2) the name of the water supply at Kadesh on the southern border of the promised land; the people also murmured here against God

(ᵐ5 ὕδωρ ἁντιλογίας) Deuteronomy 33:8; Numbers 20:13 (P) Psalm 81:8; Psalm 106:32, also (ᵐ5 ὕδωρ τῆς λοιδορίαςᵐ5 L as above) Numbers 20:24 (P); ׳מ construct in מֵי מְרִיבַת קָדֵשׁ (ᵐ5 ὕδωρ ἁντιλογίας [ἑν] Καδης) Numbers 27:14; Deuteronomy 32:51 (both P), and (ᵐ5 ὕδωρ βαριμωθ Καδης Ezekiel 48:28; so מֵי מְרִיבוֺת׳ק Ezekiel 47:19 (ᵐ5 ὕδωρ Μαριμωθ Καδης); Deuteronomy 33:2 see קֹדֶשׁ near the end; מְרִיבָה along, only Psalm 95:8 (παραπικρασμός; "" יוֺם מַסָּה).

(1)  strife, contention, Genesis 13:8; Exodus 17:7; Numbers 27:14.

(2) [Meribah], pr.n.

(a) of a fountain flowing from a rock in the desert of Sin on the Heroopolitan gulf, -Exod. 17:17.

(b) מֵי מְרִיבָה (“water of strife”), another similar fountain in the desert of Zin, near Kadesh, Numbers 20:13, 24 Numbers 20:24; Deuteronomy 33:8; Psalms 81:8, 106:32 fully מֵי מְרִיבוֹת קָדֵשׁ Ezekiel 47:19.
