Gesenius' Hebrew and Chaldee Definition

שָׁרוֹן (for יְשָׁרוֹן “plain,” “plain country”), every where with the art. הַשָּׁרוֹן Sharon, pr.n. of a plain country near the Mediterranean Sea, between Cæsarea and Joppa, remarkable for the fertility of its fields and pastures, Joshua 12:18; Song of Solomon 2:1; Isaiah 33:9, 35:2 65:10 1 Chronicles 27:29. Some understand another plain of the same name to be spoken of, 1 Chronicles 5:16, for which, however, there is no occasion; [In Thes. Gesenius favours this supposition], Relandi Palæst. p. 188, 370.-Hence שָׁרוֹנִי a Sharonite, 1 Chronicles 27:29.
