(contr. from יָרֹב בַּעַל “with whom Baal contends,” see Judges 6:32 ), a cognomen of Gideon, the judge of the Israelites, for which there is יְרֻבֶּשֶׁת [Jerubbesheth], (“with whom the idol contends”), 2 Samuel 11:21.
