 I. צִי noun masculine Isaiah 33:21 ship (loan-word from Egyptian t'a£, according to Bondi66, compare Erman ZMG xivi (1892),123 DHM VOJ viii. 7,165); — absolute צִי אַדִּיר Isaiah 33:21 a majestic ship; plural צִים Numbers 24:24 (JE), Ezekiel 30:9 (׳בַּצּ; but ᵐ5 σπεύδοντες, compare ᵑ6, whence Co Berthol אָצִים).

צִי m. (for צְהִי from the root צָהָה [in Thes. from צָוָה])

(1)  dryness, a dry region, a desert; whence צִיִּי an inhabitant of a desert.

(2) a ship (as if, what is dry, a dry place in the midst of the waters; unless it be preferred to derive צִי from צָוָה with the signification of erecting, setting up; compare צִיּוּן a column), Isaiah 33:21. Plur. צִים Numbers 24:24, and צִיִּים Daniel 11:30 Castell brings forward from the Arabic صَوَاَيةُ small vessel, but in the Kamûs this word is not found.
