רַב in pause רָב, f. רַבָּה, pl. רַבִּים adj. (from the root רָבַב).

(1)  multus, whether of one continuous thing (answering to the French beaucoup de, Engl. much), as זָהָב רַב much gold, 1 Kings 10:2; Psalms 19:11 or of collectives which contain many parts (many individual things), (answering to the Lat. and French numerosus, nombreux, Engl. many), as עַם רַב much, or many people, i.e. numerous, Joshua 17:14 אָדָם רַב many men, Job 36:28 (here οἱ πολλοί); עֲבֻדָּה רַבָּה a numerous train of servants, Genesis 26:14 מִקְנֶה רַב much cattle, Numbers 32:1. Often put as the neuter for much, Exodus 19:21, נָפַל מִמֶּנּוּ רַב, which is rendered in Latin, cadunt ex iis multi; but it is properly, es fällt von ihnen viel (Mannfchaft), 1 Samuel 14:6; Genesis 33:9. Hence adv. and even with a pl. subst. Psalms 18:15, בְּרָקִים רַב “lightnings much” (der Bliße viel, Bliße in Menge); Ecclesiastes 6:3, וְרַב שֶׁיִּהְיוּ יְמֵי שָׁנָיו “although many be the days of his years.” Often i.q. enough, (it is) enough, it is sufficient, Genesis 45:28 especially in the phrase (compare מְעַט), רַב עַתָּה ohe! jam satis! “enough, now!” i.e. desist! 2 Samuel 24:16; 1 Kings 19:4 more fully רַב לָךְ Deuteronomy 3:26 רַב לָכֶם Ezekiel 45:9; Numbers 16:3, desist, leave off. Followed by an inf. Deuteronomy 1:6, רַב לָכֶם שֶׁבֶת “ye have dwelt long enough;” Deuteronomy 2:3 followed by מִן Ezekiel 44:6, רַב לָכֶם מִכָּל־תּוֹעֲבוֹתֵיכֶם “desist from all your abominations;” 1 Kings 12:28; Exodus 9:28.-Also f. רַבָּה is often used as a neuter, Psalms 123:4 and adverbially for much, enough, Psalms 62:3 and more often constr. state רַבַּת Psalms 65:10, 120:6 123:4.
