This is the artist, then, life's hungry man, the glutton of eternity, beauty's miser, glory's slave.

The notion that the public accepts or rejects anything in modern art is merely romantic fiction. The game is completed and the trophies distributed long before the public knows what has happened.

But I just love that music scene so much, and I enjoy really being around those artists and watching them even more than I do performing, because they are a whole group of people that do it because they love music.

And I hate to see artists who are real safe. I love to see artists swing for the fences sometimes.

When I first started all this, it was mostly music fans that came along, Stones fans. But now, I'm being taken seriously. I've got highfalutin' art collectors and everything!

But, you see, the theatre is not always art in America.

And I have exposed myself to art so that my work has something beyond just the usual potter.

We are going to finish this picture just the way I want it... because you cannot compromise an artist's vision.

It's taken folk a while to come around, hasn't it? Even the boys in the band weren't too sure about the whole art thing. They just wanted me to concentrate on the music. But they respect it now.

As an adult (after college) and as an artist I thought about what was real, what sustained me - it was Christian Science. I was using that when I didn't know it. Saying yes to the Light and your better instinct.

Is there not an art, a music, and a stream of words that shalt be life, the acknowledged voice of life?

Really I don't like human nature unless all candied over with art.

It is the nature of the artist to mind excessively what is said about him. Literature is strewn with the wreckage of men who have minded beyond reason the opinions of others.

No one likes to work for free. To copy an artist's work and download it free is stealing. It's hard work writing and recording music, and it's morally wrong to steal it.

The Internet is both great and terrible. As a source of information, a tool for delivering music and art, it's great. But spamming ads and piracy of music is terrible. It's stealing.

Artists were nurtured back in the '70s. Their music was developed by the record companies.

We lived on a farm in the English countryside, where we wrote a lot of our music. You really were treated like an artist during those days-not like product, which is now the mode.

The more far-out artists, the better.

Painting is seen as picture making, the making of an art object, something that can stand on its own.
