Genesis 29:1-30
Chapter 29
Jacob Meets Rachel
1 Then Jacob (F1)set out on his journey, and went to the land of (C1)the (F2)people of the east.2 He looked, and (F1)saw (C1)a well in the field, and behold, three flocks of sheep were lying there beside it, because they watered the flocks from that well. Now the stone on the mouth of the well was large.3 When all the flocks were gathered there, they would roll the stone from the mouth of the well and water the sheep. Then they would put the stone back in its place on the mouth of the well.
4 Jacob said to them, "My brothers, where are you from?" And they said, "We are from (C1)Haran."5 So he said to them, "Do you know Laban the (C1)son of Nahor?" And they said, "We know him."6 And he said to them, "Is it well with him?" And they said, "It is well, and here is his daughter (C1)Rachel coming with the sheep."7 Then he said, "Look, it is still high day; it is not time for the livestock to be gathered. Water the sheep, and go, pasture them."8 But they said, "We cannot, until all the flocks are gathered, and they roll the stone from the mouth of the well; then we water the sheep."
9 While he was still speaking with them, Rachel came with her father's sheep, for she was a shepherdess.10 When Jacob saw Rachel the daughter of his mother's brother Laban, and the sheep of his mother's brother Laban, Jacob went up and rolled the stone from the mouth of the well, and watered the flock of his mother's brother Laban.11 Then Jacob (C1)kissed Rachel, and raised his voice and wept.12 Jacob told Rachel that he was a (C1)relative of her father and that he was Rebekah's son, and (C2)she ran and told her father.
13 So when (C1)Laban heard the news about Jacob, his sister's son, he ran to meet him, and (C2)embraced him and kissed him, and brought him to his house. Then he told Laban all these things.14 And Laban said to him, "You certainly are (C1)my bone and my flesh." And he stayed with him a month.
15 Then Laban said to Jacob, "Because you are my relative, should you therefore serve me for nothing? Tell me, what shall (C1)your wages be?"16 Now Laban had two daughters; the name of the older was Leah, and the name of the younger was Rachel.17 And Leah's eyes were weak, but Rachel was (C1)beautiful in figure and appearance.18 Now Jacob (C1)loved Rachel, so he said, "(C2)I will serve you seven years for your younger daughter Rachel."19 Laban said, "It is better that I give her to you than to give her to another man; stay with me."20 So Jacob served seven years for Rachel, and they seemed to him like only a few days (C1)because of his love for her.
Laban's Treachery
21 Then Jacob said to Laban, "Give me my wife, for my (F1)time is completed, that I may (C1)have relations with her."22 So Laban gathered all the people of the place and held a feast.23 Now in the evening he took his daughter Leah and brought her to him; and Jacob had relations with her.24 Laban also gave his female slave Zilpah to his daughter Leah as a slave.25 So it came about in the morning that, behold, it was Leah! And he said to Laban, "(C1)What is this that you have done to me? Was it not for Rachel that I served with you? Why then have you (C2)deceived me?"26 But Laban said, "It is not (F1)the practice in our place to (F2)marry off the younger before the firstborn.27 "Complete the week of this one, and we will give you the other also for the service which (C1)you shall serve with me, for another seven years."28 Jacob did so and completed her week, and he gave him his daughter Rachel as his wife.29 Laban also gave his female slave Bilhah to his daughter Rachel as her slave.30 So Jacob had relations with Rachel also, and indeed (C1)he loved Rachel more than Leah, and he served with (F1)Laban for (C2)another seven years.<
Psalms 22
Chapter 22
A Cry of Anguish and a Song of Praise.
1 (C1)My God, my God, why have You forsaken me?
(C2)Far from my (F1)help are the words of my (F2)(C3)groaning.
2 My God, I (C1)cry out by day, but You do not answer;
And by night, but (F1)I have no rest.
3 Yet (C1)You are holy,
You who (F1)are enthroned upon (C2)the praises of Israel.
4 In You our fathers (C1)trusted;
They trusted and You (C2)rescued them.
5 To You they cried out and they fled to safety;
(C1)In You they trusted and were not (F1)disappointed.
6 But I am a (C1)worm and not a person,
A (C2)disgrace of mankind and (C3)despised by the people.
7 All who see me (C1)deride me;
They (F1)sneer, they (C2)shake their heads, saying,
8 "(F1)Turn (F2)him over to the LORD; (C1)let Him save him;
Let Him rescue him, because He delights in him."
9 Yet You are He who (C1)brought me forth from the womb;
You made me trust when upon my mother's breasts.
10 I was cast upon You (C1)from (F1)birth;
You have been my God from my mother's womb.
11 (C1)Do not be far from me, for (F1)trouble is near;
For there is (C2)no one to help.
12 Many (C1)bulls have surrounded me;
Strong bulls of (C2)Bashan have encircled me.
13 They (C1)open their mouths wide at me,
As a ravening and roaring (C2)lion.
14 I am (C1)poured out like water,
And all my (C2)bones are out of joint;
My (C3)heart is like wax;
It is melted within (F1)me.
15 My (C1)strength is dried up like a piece of pottery,
And (C2)my tongue clings to my jaws;
And You (C3)lay me (F1)in the dust of death.
16 For (C1)dogs have surrounded me;
(F1)A band of evildoers has encompassed me;
(F2)They (C2)pierced my hands and my feet.
17 I can count all my bones.
(C1)They look, they stare at me;
18 They (C1)divide my garments among them,
And they cast lots for my clothing.
19 But You, LORD, (C1)do not be far away;
You who are my help, (C2)hurry to my assistance.
20 Save my (F1)soul from (C1)the sword,
My (C2)only life from the (F2)power of the dog.
21 Save me from the (C1)lion's mouth;
From the horns of the (C2)wild oxen You (C3)answer me.
22 I will (C1)proclaim Your name to my brothers;
In the midst of the assembly I will praise You.
23 (C1)You who fear the LORD, praise Him;
All you (F1)descendants of Jacob, (C2)glorify Him,
And (C3)stand in awe of Him, all you (F1)descendants of Israel.
24 For He has (C1)not despised nor scorned the suffering of the afflicted;
Nor has He (C2)hidden His face from him;
But (C3)when he cried to Him for help, He heard.
25 From You comes (C1)my praise in the great assembly;
I shall (C2)pay my vows before those who fear Him.
26 The (F1)afflicted will eat and (C1)be satisfied;
Those who seek Him will (C2)praise the LORD.
May your (C3)heart live forever!
27 All the (C1)ends of the earth will remember and turn to the LORD,
And all the (C2)families of the nations will worship before (F1)You.
28 For the (C1)kingdom is the LORD'S
And He (C2)rules over the nations.
29 All the (F1)(C1)prosperous of the earth will eat and worship,
All those who (C2)go down to the dust will kneel before Him,
Even he who (F2)(C3)cannot keep his soul alive.
30 A (F1)(C1)posterity will serve Him;
It will be told of the Lord to (C2)the coming generation.
31 They will come and (C1)will declare His righteousness
To a people (C2)who will be born, that He has performed it.
Luke 17
Chapter 17
Instructions
1 Now He said to His disciples, "(C1)It is inevitable that (F1)stumbling blocks come, but woe to one through whom they come!2 "(C1)It is better for him if a millstone is hung around his neck and he (F1)is thrown into the sea, than that he may cause one of these little ones to (F2)sin.3 "(F1)Be on your guard! (C1)If your brother sins, rebuke him; and if he repents, forgive him.4 "And if he sins against you (C1)seven times a day, and returns to you seven times, saying, 'I repent,' you shall forgive him."
5 (C1)The apostles said to (C2)the Lord, "Increase our faith!"6 But (C1)the Lord said, "If you (F1)had faith (F2)the size of (C2)a mustard seed, you could say to this (C3)mulberry tree, 'Be uprooted and be planted in the sea'; and it would (F3)obey you.
7 "Now which of you, having a slave plowing or tending sheep, will say to him after he comes in from the field, 'Come immediately and recline at the table to eat'?8 "On the contrary, will he not say to him, '(C1)Prepare something for me to eat, and properly (F1)clothe yourself and serve me while I eat and drink; and (F2)afterward you (F3)may eat and drink'?9 "He does not thank the slave because he did the things which were commanded, does he?10 "So you too, when you do all the things which were commanded you, say, 'We are (F1)unworthy slaves; we have done only that which we ought to have done.'"
Ten Men with Leprosy Healed
11 While He was (C1)on the way to Jerusalem, (C2)He was passing (F1)between Samaria and Galilee.12 And as He entered a village, ten men with leprosy who (C1)stood at a distance met Him;13 and they raised their voices, saying, "Jesus, (C1)Master, have mercy on us!"14 When He saw them, He said to them, "(C1)Go and show yourselves to the priests." And as they were going, they were cleansed.15 Now one of them, when he saw that he had been healed, turned back, (C1)glorifying God with a loud voice,16 and he fell on his face at His feet, giving thanks to Him. And he was a (C1)Samaritan.17 But Jesus responded and said, "Were there not ten cleansed? But the nine—where are they?18 "(F1)Was no one found who returned to (C1)give glory to God, except this foreigner?"19 And He said to him, "Stand up and go; (C1)your faith has (F1)made you well."
Second Coming Foretold
20 Now He was questioned by the Pharisees (C1)as to when the kingdom of God was coming, and He answered them and said, "The kingdom of God is not coming with (F1)(C2)signs that can be observed;21 nor will (C1)they say, 'Look, here it is!' or, 'There it is!' For behold, the kingdom of God is (F1)in your midst."
22 And He said to the disciples, "(C1)The days will come when you will long to see one of the days of the Son of Man, and you will not see it.23 "(C1)And they will say to you, 'Look there,' or, 'Look here!' Do not leave, and do not run after them.24 "(C1)For just like the lightning, when it flashes out of one part (F1)of the sky, shines to the other part (F1)of the sky, so will the Son of Man be in His day.25 "(C1)But first He must suffer many things and be rejected by this generation.26 "(C1)And just as it happened (C2)in the days of Noah, so will it also be in the days of the Son of Man:27 people were eating, they were drinking, they were marrying, and they were being given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all.28 "(F1)It was the same as happened in the days of Lot: they were eating, they were drinking, they were buying, they were selling, they were planting, and they were building;29 but on the day that Lot left Sodom, it rained fire and (F1)brimstone from heaven and destroyed them all.30 "It will be (F1)just the same on the day that the Son of Man (C1)is revealed.31 "On that day, the one who will be (C1)on the (F1)housetop, (F2)with his goods in the house, must not go down to take them out; and likewise the one in the field must not turn back.32 "(C1)Remember Lot's wife.33 "(C1)Whoever strives to (F1)save his (F2)life will lose it, and whoever loses his life will keep it.34 "I tell you, on that night there will be two in one bed; one will be taken and the other will be left.35 "(C1)There will be two women grinding at the same place; one will be taken and the other will be left.36 ["(F1)(C1)Two men will be in the field; one will be taken and the other will be left."]37 And responding, they (*)said to Him, "Where, Lord?" And He said to them, "(C1)Where the body is, there also the (F1)vultures will be gathered."
