Genesis 39

Chapter 39

Joseph's Success in Egypt

1 Now Joseph had been taken down to Egypt; and Potiphar, an Egyptian officer of Pharaoh, the captain of the bodyguard, bought him (F1)from the (C1)Ishmaelites, who had taken him down there.2 And (C1)the LORD was with Joseph, so he became a (F1)successful man. And he was in the house of his master, the Egyptian.3 Now his master (C1)saw that the LORD was with him and that the LORD (C2)made all that he did prosper in his hand.4 So Joseph (C1)found favor in his sight and (F1)became his personal servant; and he made him overseer over his house, and (F2)put him in charge of (C2)all that he owned.5 It came about that from the time he made him overseer in his house and over all that he owned, the LORD (C1)blessed the Egyptian's house on account of Joseph; so (C2)the LORD'S blessing was upon all that he owned, in the house and in the field.

6 So he left (F1)Joseph in charge of everything that he owned; and with him there he did not (F2)concern himself with anything except the (F3)food which he (F4)ate. Now Joseph was (C1)handsome in form and appearance.7 And it came about after these events (C1)that his master's wife (F1)had her eyes on Joseph, and she said, "(C2)Sleep with me."8 But (C1)he refused and said to his master's wife, "Look, with me here, my master (F1)does not concern himself with anything in the house, and he has (F2)put me in charge of all that he owns.9 "(F1)(C1)There is no one greater in this house than I, and he has withheld nothing from me except you, because you are his wife. How then could I do this great evil, and (C2)sin against God?"10 Though she spoke to Joseph day after day, he did not listen to her to lie beside her or be with her.11 Now it happened (F1)one day that he went into the house to do his work, and none of the people of the household was there inside.12 So she grabbed him by his garment, saying, "Sleep with me!" But he left his garment in her hand and fled, and went outside.13 (F1)When she saw that he had left his garment in her hand and had fled outside,14 she called to the men of her household and said to them, "See, he has brought in a (F1)Hebrew to us to make fun of us; he came in to me to sleep with me, and I (F2)screamed.15 "When he heard that I raised my voice and (F1)screamed, he left his garment beside me and fled and went outside."16 So she (F1)left his garment beside her until his master came home.17 Then she (C1)spoke to him (F1)with these (F2)words: "The Hebrew slave, whom you brought to us, came in to me to make fun of me;18 but when I raised my voice and (F1)screamed, he left his garment beside me and fled outside."

Joseph Imprisoned

19 Now when his master heard the words of his wife which she spoke to him, saying, "(F1)This is what your slave did to me," (C1)his anger burned.20 So Joseph's master took him and (C1)put him into the prison, the place where the king's prisoners were confined; and he was there in the prison.21 But (C1)the LORD was with Joseph and extended kindness to him, and (C2)gave him favor in the sight of the warden of the prison.22 And the warden of the prison (F1)(C1)put Joseph in charge of all the prisoners who were in the prison; so that whatever was done there, he was (F2)responsible for it.23 (C1)The warden of the prison did not supervise anything (F1)under Joseph's authority, because (C2)the LORD was with him; and, (C3)the LORD made whatever he did prosper.

Psalms 30

Chapter 30

Thanksgiving for Rescue from Death.

A Psalm; a Song at the Dedication of the House. A Psalm of David.

1 I will (C1)exalt You, LORD, for You have (C2)lifted me up,
And have not let my (C3)enemies rejoice over me.

2 LORD my God,
I (C1)cried to You for help, and You (C2)healed me.

3 LORD, You have (C1)brought up my soul from (F1)Sheol;
You have kept me alive, (F2)that I would not (C2)go down to the pit.

4 (C1)Sing praise to the LORD, you (C2)His godly ones,
And (C3)praise the mention of His holiness.

5 For (C1)His anger is but for a moment,
His (C2)favor is for a lifetime;
Weeping may (C3)last for the night,
But a shout of joy comes in the morning.

6 Now as for me, I said in my prosperity,
"I will (C1)never be moved."

7 LORD, by Your favor You have made my mountain to stand strong;
You (C1)hid Your face, I was dismayed.

8 To You, LORD, I called,
And to the Lord I pleaded for compassion:

9 "What gain is there in my blood, if I (C1)go down to the pit?
Will the (C2)dust praise You? Will it declare Your faithfulness?

10 "(C1)Hear, LORD, and be gracious to me;
LORD, be my (C2)helper."

11 You have turned (C1)my mourning into dancing for me;
You have (C2)untied my sackcloth and encircled me with (C3)joy,

12 That my (F1)(C1)soul may sing praise to You and not be silent.
LORD my God, I will (C2)give thanks to You forever.

Luke 22:1-38

Chapter 22

Preparing the Passover

1 (C1)Now the Feast of Unleavened Bread, which is called the (C2)Passover, was approaching.2 And the chief priests and the scribes (C1)were trying to find (F1)a way to put Him to death, since they were afraid of the people.

3 (C1)And (C2)Satan entered Judas, the one called Iscariot, (F1)who belonged to the number of the twelve.4 And he left and discussed with the chief priests and (C1)officers how he was to betray Him to them.5 And they were delighted, and agreed to give him money.6 And so he consented, and began looking for a good opportunity to betray Him to them (F1)away from the crowd.

7 (C1)Now the first day of Unleavened Bread came, on which (C2)the Passover lamb had to be sacrificed.8 And so Jesus sent (C1)Peter and John, saying, "Go and prepare the Passover for us, so that we may eat it."9 They said to Him, "Where do You want us to prepare it?"10 And He said to them, "When you have entered the city, a man carrying a pitcher of water will meet you; follow him into the house that he enters.11 "And you shall say to the owner of the house, 'The Teacher says to you, "Where is the guest room in which I may eat the Passover with My disciples?"'12 "And he will show you a large, furnished upstairs room; prepare it there."13 And they left and found everything just as He had told them; and they prepared the Passover.

The Lord's Supper

14 (C1)When the hour came, He reclined at the table, and (C2)the apostles with Him.15 And He said to them, "I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer;16 for I say to you, I shall not eat it again (C1)until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God."17 (C1)And when He had taken a cup and (C2)given thanks, He said, "Take this and share it among yourselves;18 for (C1)I say to you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine from now on until the kingdom of God comes."19 And when He had taken some bread and (C1)given thanks, He broke it and gave it to them, saying, "This is My body, which is being given for you; do this in remembrance of Me."20 And in the same way He took the cup after they had eaten, saying, "This cup, which is (C1)poured out for you, is the (C2)new covenant in My blood.21 "(C1)But behold, the hand of the one betraying Me is with (F1)Mine on the table.22 "For indeed, the Son of Man is going (C1)as it has been determined; but woe to that man by whom He is betrayed!"23 And they began to debate among themselves which one of them it was who was going to do this.

Who Is Greatest

24 And (C1)a dispute also developed among them as to which one of them was regarded as being the greatest.25 (C1)And He said to them, "The kings of the Gentiles domineer over them; and those who have authority over them are called 'Benefactors.'26 "But it is not this way for you; (C1)rather, the one who is the greatest among you must become like (C2)the youngest, and the leader like the servant.27 "For (C1)who is greater, the one who reclines at the table or the one who serves? Is it not the one who reclines at the table? But (C2)I am among you as the one who serves.

28 "You are the ones who have stood by Me in My (C1)trials;29 and just as My Father has granted Me a (C1)kingdom, I grant you30 that you may (C1)eat and drink at My table in My (C2)kingdom, and (C3)you will sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

31 "Simon, Simon, behold, (C1)Satan has (F1)demanded to (C2)sift you men like wheat;32 but I (C1)have prayed for (F1)you, that (F1)your faith will not fail; and (F1)you, when you have (F2)turned back, (C2)strengthen your brothers."33 (C1)But he said to Him, "Lord, I am ready to go with You both to prison and to death!"34 But He said, "I tell you, Peter, the rooster will not crow today until you have denied three times that you know Me."

35 And He said to them, "(C1)When I sent you out without money belt and bag and sandals, you did not lack anything, did you?" They said, "No, nothing."36 And He said to them, "But now, (F1)whoever has a money belt is to take it along, likewise also a bag, and (F1)whoever has no sword is to sell his (F2)cloak and buy one.37 "For I tell you that this which is written must be fulfilled in Me: '(C1)AND HE WAS COUNTED WITH WRONGDOERS'; for (C2)that which refers to Me has its (F1)fulfillment."38 They said, "Lord, look, here are two (C1)swords." And He said to them, "It is enough."<
