Genesis 45:1-46:27

Chapter 45

Joseph Deals Kindly with His Brothers

1 Then Joseph could not control himself in front of everyone standing before him, and he shouted, "Have everyone leave me!" So there (F1)was no one with him (C1)when Joseph made himself known to his brothers.2 Then (C1)he (F1)wept so loudly that the Egyptians heard it, and the household of Pharaoh heard about it.3 And Joseph said to his brothers, "(C1)I am Joseph! (C2)Is my father still alive?" But his brothers could not answer him, for (C3)they were terrified in his presence.

4 Then Joseph said to his brothers, "Please come (F1)closer to me." And they came (F1)closer. And he said, "I am your brother Joseph, whom you (C1)sold to Egypt.5 "Now do not be grieved or angry (F1)with yourselves because (C1)you sold me here, for (C2)God sent me ahead of you (F2)to save lives.6 "For the famine has been in the land (C1)these two years, and there are still five years in which there will be neither plowing nor harvesting.7 "So (C1)God sent me ahead of you to ensure for you a remnant on the earth, and to (F1)keep you alive by a great deliverance.8 "Now, therefore, it was not you who sent me here, but God; and He has made me a (C1)father to Pharaoh and lord of all his household, and ruler over all the land of Egypt.9 "Hurry and go up to my father, and (C1)say to him, 'This is what your son Joseph says: "God has made me lord of all Egypt; come down to me, do not delay.10 "For you shall live in the land of (C1)Goshen, and you shall be near me, you and your children and your (F1)grandchildren, and your flocks and your herds and all that you have.11 "There I will also (C1)provide for you, for there are still five years of famine to come, and you and your household and all that you have would be impoverished."'12 "Behold, your eyes see, and the eyes of my brother Benjamin see, that it is my mouth which is speaking to you.13 "Now you must tell my father of all my splendor in Egypt, and all that you have seen; and you must hurry and (C1)bring my father down here."14 Then he fell on his brother Benjamin's neck and (C1)wept, and Benjamin wept on his neck.15 And he kissed all his brothers and wept on them, and afterward his brothers talked with him.

16 Now when (C1)the (F1)news was heard in Pharaoh's house ">(F2)that Joseph's brothers had come, it (F3)pleased Pharaoh and his servants.17 Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, "Say to your brothers, 'Do this: load your livestock and (F1)go to the land of Canaan,18 and take your father and your households and come to me; and (C1)I will give you the (F1)best of the land of Egypt, and you will eat the fat of the land.'19 "Now you are ordered, 'Do this: (F1)take (C1)wagons from the land of Egypt for your little ones and for your wives, and bring your father and come.20 'And do not (F1)concern yourselves with your property, for the (F2)best of all the land of Egypt is yours.'"

21 Then the sons of Israel did so; and Joseph gave them (C1)wagons according to the (F1)command of Pharaoh, and gave them provisions for the journey.22 To (F1)each of them he gave (C1)changes of garments, but to Benjamin he gave three hundred pieces of silver and (C2)five changes of garments.23 And to his father he sent (F1)the following: ten male donkeys loaded with the (F2)best things of Egypt, ten female donkeys loaded with grain, bread, and sustenance for his father (F3)on the journey.

24 So he sent his brothers away, and (F1)as they departed, he said to them, "Do not (F2)quarrel on the journey."25 Then they went up from Egypt, and came to the land of Canaan, to their father Jacob.26 And they told him, saying, "Joseph is still alive, and indeed he is ruler over all the land of Egypt." But (F1)he was stunned, for (C1)he did not believe them.27 When they told him all the words of Joseph that he had spoken to them, and when he saw the (C1)wagons that Joseph had sent to carry him, then the spirit of their father Jacob revived.28 Then Israel said, "It is enough; my son Joseph is still alive. I will go and see him before I die."

Chapter 46

Jacob Moves to Egypt

1 So Israel set out with all that he had, and came to (C1)Beersheba, and offered sacrifices to the (C2)God of his father Isaac.2 And (C1)God spoke to Israel (F1)in visions of the night and said, "(C2)Jacob, Jacob." And he said, "Here I am."3 Then He said, "(C1)I am God, the God of your father; do not be afraid to go down to Egypt, for I will (C2)make you into a great nation there.4 "(C1)I will go down with you to Egypt, and (C2)I will also assuredly bring you up again; and (C3)Joseph will (F1)close your eyes."

5 Then Jacob left Beersheba, and the sons of Israel carried their father Jacob and their little ones and their wives in the (C1)wagons which Pharaoh had sent to carry him.6 They also took their livestock and their possessions, which they had acquired in the land of Canaan, and (C1)came to Egypt, Jacob and all his (F1)descendants with him:7 his sons and his grandsons with him, his daughters and his granddaughters, and all his (F1)descendants he brought with him to Egypt.

Those Who Came to Egypt

8 Now these are the (C1)names of the sons of Israel who went to Egypt, Jacob and his sons: Reuben, Jacob's firstborn.9 And the sons of Reuben: Hanoch, Pallu, Hezron, and Carmi.10 And the (C1)sons of Simeon: (F1)Jemuel, Jamin, Ohad, (F2)Jachin, (F3)Zohar, and Shaul the son of a Canaanite woman.11 And the sons of Levi: (F1)Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.12 And the sons of Judah: Er, Onan, Shelah, Perez, and Zerah (but Er and Onan died in the land of Canaan). And the (C2)sons of Beriah: Heber and Malchiel.18 These are the sons of Zilpah, whom Laban gave to his daughter Leah; and she bore to Jacob these sixteen persons.19 The sons of Jacob's wife Rachel: Joseph and Benjamin.20 (C1)Now to Joseph in the land of Egypt were born Manasseh and Ephraim, whom Asenath, the daughter of Potiphera, priest of On, bore to him.21 And the (C1)sons of Benjamin: Bela, Becher, Ashbel, Gera, Naaman, (F1)Ehi, Rosh, (F2)Muppim, (F3)Huppim, and Ard.22 These are the sons of Rachel, who were born to Jacob; there were fourteen persons in all.23 And the sons of Dan: (F1)Hushim.24 And the sons of Naphtali: (F1)Jahzeel, Guni, Jezer, and (F2)Shillem.25 These are the (C1)sons of Bilhah, whom (C2)Laban gave to his daughter Rachel, and she bore these to Jacob; there were seven persons in all.26 (C1)All the people belonging to Jacob, who came to Egypt, (F1)his direct descendants, not including the wives of Jacob's sons, were sixty-six persons in all,27 and the sons of Joseph, who were born to him in Egypt, were (F1)two; (C1)all the people of the house of Jacob, who came to Egypt, were seventy.<

Psalms 36

Chapter 36

Wickedness of Humanity and Goodness of God.

For the music director. A Psalm of David the servant of the LORD.

1 (F1)Wrongdoing speaks to the ungodly within (F2)his heart;
There is (C1)no fear of God before his eyes.

2 For it (C1)flatters him in his own eyes
Concerning the discovery of his wrongful deed and the hatred of it.

3 The (C1)words of his mouth are wickedness and deceit;
He has (C2)ceased to (F1)be wise and to do good.

4 He (C1)plans wickedness on his bed;
He sets himself on a (C2)path that is not good;
He (C3)does not reject evil.

5 Your (C1)mercy, LORD, (F1)extends to the heavens,
Your faithfulness reaches to the skies.

6 Your (C1)righteousness is like the (F1)mountains of God;
Your (C2)judgments are like the great deep.
LORD, You (F2)(C3)protect mankind and animals.

7 How (C1)precious is Your mercy, God!
And the sons of mankind (C2)take refuge in the shadow of Your wings.

8 They (C1)drink their fill of the (F1)abundance of Your house;
And You allow them to drink from the (C2)river of Your delights.

9 For the (C1)fountain of life is with You;
In Your light we see light.

10 Prolong Your mercy to (C1)those who know You,
And Your (C2)righteousness to the upright of heart.

11 May the foot of pride not come upon me,
And may the hand of the wicked not drive me away.

12 Those who do injustice have fallen there;
They have been thrust down and (C1)cannot rise.

Hebrews 1

Chapter 1

God's Final Word in His Son

1 God, after He (C1)spoke long ago to the fathers in (C2)the prophets in many portions and (C3)in many ways,2 (F1)(C1)in these last days (C2)has spoken to us (F2)in His (C3)Son, whom He appointed (C4)heir of all things, (C5)through whom He also made the (F3)(C6)world.3 (F1)And He is the radiance of His glory and the exact (C1)representation of His nature, and (F2)(C2)upholds all things by (F3)the word of His power. When He had made (C3)purification of sins, He (C4)sat down at the right hand of the (C5)Majesty on high,4 having become so much better than the angels, to the extent that He has inherited a more excellent (C1)name than they.

5 For to which of the angels did He ever say,

"(C1)YOU ARE MY SON,
TODAY I HAVE FATHERED YOU"?
And again,
"(C2)I WILL BE A FATHER TO HIM
AND HE WILL BE A SON TO ME"?

6 And (F1)when He again (C1)brings the firstborn into (F2)(C2)the world, He says,

"(C3)AND LET ALL THE ANGELS OF GOD WORSHIP HIM."

7 And regarding the angels He says,

"(C1)HE MAKES HIS ANGELS WINDS,
AND HIS MINISTERS A FLAME OF FIRE."

8 But regarding the Son He says,

"(C1)YOUR THRONE, GOD, IS FOREVER AND EVER,
AND THE SCEPTER OF RIGHTEOUSNESS IS THE SCEPTER OF (F1)HIS KINGDOM.

9 "(C1)YOU HAVE LOVED RIGHTEOUSNESS AND HATED LAWLESSNESS;
(C2)THEREFORE GOD, YOUR GOD, HAS (C3)ANOINTED YOU
WITH THE OIL OF JOY ABOVE YOUR COMPANIONS."

10 And,

"(C1)YOU, LORD, IN THE BEGINNING LAID THE FOUNDATION OF THE EARTH,
AND THE HEAVENS ARE THE WORKS OF YOUR HANDS;

11 (C1)THEY WILL PERISH, BUT YOU REMAIN;
(C2)AND THEY ALL WILL (F1)WEAR OUT LIKE A GARMENT,

12 (C1)AND LIKE A ROBE YOU WILL ROLL THEM UP;
LIKE A GARMENT THEY WILL ALSO BE CHANGED.
BUT YOU ARE (C2)THE SAME,
AND YOUR YEARS WILL NOT COME TO AN END."

13 But to which of the angels has He ever said,

"(C1)SIT AT MY RIGHT HAND,
(C2)UNTIL I MAKE YOUR ENEMIES
A FOOTSTOOL FOR YOUR FEET"?

14 Are they not all (C1)ministering spirits, sent out to provide service for the sake of those who will (C2)inherit (C3)salvation?
