Genesis 46:28-47:31
Chapter 46
28 Now Jacob sent Judah ahead of him to Joseph, to (F1)guide him to (C1)Goshen; and they came into the land of Goshen.29 And Joseph (F1)prepared his chariot and went up to Goshen to meet his father Israel; as soon as he appeared to him, Joseph threw himself on his neck and (C1)wept on his neck a long time.30 Then Israel said to Joseph, "Now let me die, since I have seen your face, that you are still alive."31 But Joseph said to his brothers and to his father's household, "(C1)I will go up and tell Pharaoh, and will say to him, 'My brothers and my father's household, who were in the land of Canaan, have come to me;32 and the men are shepherds, for they have been (F1)keepers of livestock; and they have brought their flocks and their herds and all that they have.'33 "When Pharaoh calls for you and says, '(C1)What is your occupation?'34 you shall say, 'Your servants have been (F1)(C1)keepers of livestock since our youth even until now, both we and our fathers,' so that you may live in the land of (C2)Goshen; for every shepherd is an (C3)abomination to the Egyptians."
Chapter 47
Jacob's Family Settles in Goshen
1 Then (C1)Joseph went in and told Pharaoh, and said, "My father and my brothers and their flocks and their herds and all that they have, have come out of the land of Canaan; and behold, they are in the land of (C2)Goshen."2 And he took five men from among his brothers and (C1)presented them to Pharaoh.3 Then Pharaoh said to his brothers, "(C1)What is your occupation?" So they said to Pharaoh, "Your servants are (C2)shepherds, both we and our fathers."4 They also said to Pharaoh, "(C1)We have come to reside in the land, for there is no pasture for your servants' flocks, for (C2)the famine is severe in the land of Canaan. Now, therefore, please let your servants (C3)live in the land of Goshen."5 Then Pharaoh said to (F1)Joseph, "Your father and your brothers have come to you.6 "The land of Egypt is (F1)at your disposal; settle your father and your brothers in (C1)the best of the land, let them live in the land of Goshen; and if you know any (C2)capable men among them, then (F2)put them in charge of my livestock."
7 Then Joseph brought his father Jacob and (F1)presented him to Pharaoh; and Jacob (C1)blessed Pharaoh.8 And Pharaoh said to Jacob, "How many (F1)years have you lived?"9 So Jacob said to Pharaoh, "The (F1)(C1)years of my living abroad are (F2)130; few and (F3)unpleasant have been the (F1)years of my life, nor have they (F4)attained (C2)the (F1)years (F5)that my fathers lived during the days of their living abroad."10 So Jacob (C1)blessed Pharaoh, and went out from (F1)his presence.11 Now Joseph settled his father and his brothers and gave them property in the land of Egypt, in (C1)the best of the land, in the land of (C2)Rameses, as Pharaoh had ordered.12 Joseph also (C1)provided his father and his brothers and all his father's household with (F1)food, according to the (F2)number of their little ones.
13 Now there was no (F1)food in all the land, because the famine was very severe, so that (C1)the land of Egypt and the land of Canaan languished because of the famine.14 And (C1)Joseph collected all the money that was found in the land of Egypt and in the land of Canaan in payment for the grain which they bought, and Joseph brought the money into Pharaoh's house.15 When the money was all spent in the land of Egypt and in the land of Canaan, all the Egyptians came to Joseph saying, "Give us (F1)food, for (C1)why should we die in your presence? For our money is (F2)gone."16 Then Joseph said, "Give up your livestock, and I will give you food for your livestock, since your money is (F1)gone."17 So they brought their livestock to Joseph, and Joseph gave them (F1)food in exchange for the horses and the (F2)flocks and the herds and the donkeys; and he (F3)fed them with (F1)food in exchange for all their livestock (F4)that year.18 But when that year ended, they came to him the (F1)next year and said to him, "We will not hide from my lord the fact that our money is all spent, and the (F2)livestock are my lord's. There is nothing left (F3)for my lord except our bodies and our lands.19 "Why should we die before your eyes, both we and our land? Buy us and our land for (F1)food, and we and our land will be slaves to Pharaoh. So give us seed, so that we may live and not die, and that the land may not be desolate."
Result of the Famine
20 So Joseph bought all the land of Egypt for Pharaoh, for (F1)every Egyptian sold his field, because the famine was severe upon them. So the land became Pharaoh's.21 As for the people, he relocated them to the cities from one end of Egypt's border to the other.22 Only the land of the priests he did not buy, because the priests had an allotment from Pharaoh, and they (F1)lived off the allotment which Pharaoh gave them. Therefore, they did not sell their land.23 Then Joseph said to the people, "Behold, today I have purchased you and your land for Pharaoh; now, here is seed for you, and you may sow the land.24 "(F1)At the harvest you shall give a (C1)fifth to Pharaoh, and (F2)four-fifths shall be your own for seed of the field and for your food, and for those of your households and as food for your little ones."25 So they said, "You have saved our lives! Let us find favor in the sight of my lord, and we will be Pharaoh's slaves."26 Joseph made it a statute concerning the land of Egypt, valid to this day, that Pharaoh was to have the fifth; (C1)only the land of the priests (F1)did not become Pharaoh's.
27 Now Israel lived in the land of Egypt, in (F1)Goshen, and they (C1)acquired property in it and (C2)were fruitful and became very numerous.28 And Jacob lived in the land of Egypt for (C1)seventeen years; so the (F1)length of Jacob's life was 147 years.
29 When (F1)(C1)the time for Israel to die drew near, he called his son Joseph and said to him, "Please, if I have found favor in your sight, (C2)place your hand under my thigh now and (C3)deal with me in kindness and (F2)faithfulness: please do not bury me in Egypt,30 but when I (F1)(C1)lie down with my fathers, you shall carry me out of Egypt and bury me in (C2)their burial place." And he said, "I will do as you have said."31 And he said, "(C1)Swear to me." So he swore to him. Then (C2)Israel bowed in worship at the head of the bed.
Psalms 37
Chapter 37
Security of Those Who Trust in the LORD, and Insecurity of the Wicked.
1 (C1)Do not get upset because of evildoers,
Do not be (C2)envious of wrongdoers.
2 For they will (C1)wither quickly like the grass,
And (C2)decay like the green plants.
3 (C1)Trust in the LORD and do good;
(C2)Live in the land and (F1)(C3)cultivate faithfulness.
4 (C1)Delight yourself in the LORD;
And He will (C2)give you the desires of your heart.
5 (C1)Commit your way to the LORD,
Trust also in Him, and He will do it.
6 He will bring out (C1)your righteousness as the light,
And your judgment (C2)as the noonday.
7 (F1)Rest in the LORD and (C1)wait (F2)patiently for Him;
(C2)Do not get upset because of one who is (C3)successful in his way,
Because of the person who carries out wicked schemes.
8 Cease from anger and (C1)abandon wrath;
Do not get upset; it leads only to evildoing.
9 For (C1)evildoers will be eliminated,
But those who wait for the LORD, they will (C2)inherit the land.
10 Yet (C1)a little while and the wicked person will be no more;
And you will look carefully for (C2)his place and he will not be there.
11 But (C1)the humble will inherit the land
And will delight themselves in (C2)abundant prosperity.
12 The wicked (C1)plots against the righteous,
And (C2)gnashes at him with his teeth.
13 The Lord (C1)laughs at him,
For He sees that (C2)his day is coming.
14 The wicked have drawn the sword and (C1)bent their bow
To take down the (C2)afflicted and the needy,
To (C3)kill off those who are upright in conduct.
15 Their sword will enter their own heart,
And their (C1)bows will be broken.
16 (C1)Better is the little of the righteous
Than the abundance of many wicked.
17 For the (C1)arms of the wicked will be broken,
But the LORD (C2)sustains the righteous.
18 The LORD (C1)knows the days of the (F1)blameless,
And their (C2)inheritance will be forever.
19 They will not be ashamed in the time of evil,
And (C1)in the days of famine they will have plenty.
20 But the (C1)wicked will perish;
And the enemies of the LORD will be like the (F1)glory of the pastures,
They vanish—(C2)like smoke they vanish away.
21 The wicked borrows and does not pay back,
But the righteous (C1)is gracious and gives.
22 For (C1)those blessed by Him will (C2)inherit the land,
But those (C3)cursed by Him will be eliminated.
23 (C1)The steps of a man are established by the LORD,
And He (C2)delights in his way.
24 When (C1)he falls, he will not be hurled down,
Because (C2)the LORD is the One (F1)who holds his hand.
25 I have been young and now I am old,
Yet (C1)I have not seen the righteous forsaken
Or (C2)his (F1)descendants begging for bread.
26 All day long (C1)he is gracious and lends,
And (C2)his (F1)descendants are a blessing.
27 (C1)Turn from evil and do good,
So that you will dwell (C2)forever.
28 For the LORD (C1)loves (F1)justice
And (C2)does not abandon His godly ones;
They are (C3)protected forever,
But the (F2)(C4)descendants of the wicked will be eliminated.
29 The righteous will (C1)inherit the land
And (C2)dwell in it forever.
30 The mouth of the righteous (C1)utters wisdom,
And his tongue (C2)speaks justice.
31 The (C1)Law of his God is in his heart;
His (C2)steps do not slip.
32 The (C1)wicked spies upon the righteous
And (C2)seeks to kill him.
33 The LORD will (C1)not leave him in his hand
Or (C2)let him be condemned when he is judged.
34 (C1)Wait for the LORD and keep His way,
And He will exalt you to inherit the land;
When the (C2)wicked are eliminated, you will see it.
35 I have (C1)seen a wicked, violent person
Spreading himself like a (C2)luxuriant (F1)tree in its native soil.
36 Then he passed away, and behold, he (C1)was no more;
I searched for him, but he could not be found.
37 Observe the (F1)(C1)blameless person, and look at the (C2)upright;
For the person of peace will have (C3)a future.
38 But wrongdoers will altogether be (C1)destroyed;
The future of the wicked will be (C2)eliminated.
39 But the (C1)salvation of the righteous is from the LORD;
He is their strength (C2)in time of trouble.
40 (C1)The LORD helps them and rescues them;
He (C2)rescues them from the wicked and saves them,
Because they (C3)take refuge in Him.
Hebrews 2
Chapter 2
Pay Attention
1 For this reason we must pay much closer attention to (F1)what we have heard, so that (C1)we do not drift away from it.2 For if the word (C1)spoken through (C2)angels proved (F1)unalterable, and (C3)every violation and act of disobedience received a just (F2)(C4)punishment,3 (C1)how will we escape if we neglect so great a (C2)salvation? (F1)After it was at first (C3)spoken through the Lord, it was (C4)confirmed to us by those who heard,4 God also testifying with them, both by (C1)signs and wonders, and by (C2)various (F1)miracles and by (F2)(C3)gifts of the Holy Spirit (C4)according to His own will.
Earth Subject to Man
5 For He did not subject to angels (F1)(C1)the world to come, about which we are speaking.6 But someone has testified (C1)somewhere, saying, "(C2)WHAT IS MAN, THAT YOU THINK OF HIM?
OR A SON OF MAN, THAT YOU ARE CONCERNED ABOUT HIM?
7 "(C1)YOU HAVE MADE HIM (F1)FOR A LITTLE WHILE LOWER THAN ANGELS;
YOU HAVE CROWNED HIM WITH GLORY AND HONOR(F2);
8 (C1)YOU HAVE PUT EVERYTHING IN SUBJECTION UNDER HIS FEET."
For in subjecting all things to him, He left nothing that is not subject to him. But now (C2)we do not yet see all things subjected to him.
Jesus Briefly Humbled
9 But we do see Him who was (C1)made (F1)for a little while lower than the angels, namely, Jesus, (C2)because of His suffering death (C3)crowned with glory and honor, so that (C4)by the grace of God He might (C5)taste death (C6)for everyone.10 For (C1)it was fitting for Him, (C2)for whom are all things, and through whom are all things, in bringing many sons to glory, to (C3)perfect the (F1)(C4)originator of their salvation through sufferings.11 For both He who (C1)sanctifies and those who (C2)are (F1)sanctified are all (C3)from one Father; for this reason He is not ashamed to call them (C4)brothers and sisters,12 saying, "(C1)I WILL PROCLAIM YOUR NAME TO MY BROTHERS,
IN THE MIDST OF THE ASSEMBLY I WILL SING YOUR PRAISE."
"(C1)I WILL PUT MY TRUST IN HIM."
And again,
"(C2)BEHOLD, I AND THE CHILDREN WHOM GOD HAS GIVEN ME."
14 Therefore, since the children share in (F1)(C1)flesh and blood, (C2)He Himself likewise also partook of the same, so that (C3)through death He might destroy (C4)the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil,15 and free those who through (C1)fear of death were subject to slavery all their lives.16 For clearly He does not (F1)give help to angels, but He gives help to the (F2)descendants of Abraham.17 Therefore, in all things He (F1)had (C1)to be made like His brothers so that He might (C2)become a merciful and faithful (C3)high priest in (C4)things pertaining to God, to (C5)make (F2)propitiation for the sins of the people.18 For since He Himself was (F1)(C1)tempted in that which He has suffered, He is able to come to the aid of those who are (F1)tempted.
