Exodus 1,2,3
Israel Multiplies in Egypt
1 Now these are the (C1)names of the sons of Israel who came to Egypt with Jacob; they came, each one (F1)with his household:2 Reuben, Simeon, Levi, and Judah;3 Issachar, Zebulun, and Benjamin;4 Dan and Naphtali, Gad and Asher.5 (F1)All the people who descended from Jacob were (C1)seventy (F2)people, but Joseph was already in Egypt.6 And (C1)Joseph died, and all his brothers and all that generation.7 But the sons of Israel (C1)were fruitful and (F1)increased greatly, and multiplied, and became exceedingly (F2)mighty, so that the land was filled with them.
8 Now a new (C1)king arose over Egypt, who did not know Joseph.9 And (C1)he said to his people, "Behold, the people of the sons of Israel are (F1)too many and too mighty for us.10 "Come, let us (C1)deal (F1)shrewdly with them, otherwise they will multiply, and (F2)in the event of war, they will also join those who hate us, and fight against us and (F3)depart from the land."11 So they appointed (C1)taskmasters over them to oppress them with (F1)(C2)hard labor. And they built for Pharaoh (C3)storage cities, Pithom and (C4)Raamses.12 But the more they oppressed them, (C1)the more they multiplied and the more they (F1)spread out, so that they dreaded the sons of Israel.13 The Egyptians (F1)used violence to compel the sons of Israel (C1)to labor;14 and they made (C1)their lives bitter with hard labor in mortar and bricks and at all kinds of labor in the field, all their labors which they violently had them perform as slaves.
15 Then the king of Egypt spoke to the Hebrew midwives, one of whom (F1)was named Shiphrah, and the other (F1)was named Puah;16 and he said, "When you are helping the Hebrew women to give birth and see them upon the birthstool, (C1)if it is a son, then you shall put him to death; but if it is a daughter, then she shall live."17 But the midwives (F1)(C1)feared God, and (C2)did not do as the king of Egypt had (F2)commanded them, but let the boys live.18 So the king of Egypt called for the midwives and said to them, "Why have you done this thing, and let the boys live?"19 The midwives said to Pharaoh, "Because the Hebrew women are not like the Egyptian women; for they are vigorous and give birth before the midwife (F1)can get to them."20 So (C1)God was good to the midwives, and (C2)the people multiplied, and became very (F1)mighty.21 And because the midwives (F1)(C1)feared God, He (F2)(C2)established (F3)households for them.22 Then Pharaoh commanded all his people, saying, "(C1)Every son who is born, (F1)you are to throw into (C2)the Nile, but every daughter, you are to keep alive."
The Birth of Moses
1 Now a man from (C1)the house of Levi went and (F1)married a daughter of Levi.2 And the woman conceived and gave birth to a son; and when she saw (F1)that he was (F2)(C1)beautiful, she hid him for three months.3 But when she could no longer hide him, she got him a (C1)papyrus (F1)basket and covered it with tar and pitch. Then she put the child in it and set it among the (C2)reeds by the bank of the Nile.4 (C1)And his sister stood at a distance to (F1)find out what would (F2)happen to him.
5 Now the daughter of Pharaoh came down (C1)to bathe at the Nile, with her female attendants walking alongside the Nile; and she saw the (F1)basket among the reeds and sent her slave woman, and she brought it to her.6 When she opened it, she (F1)saw the child, and behold, the boy was crying. And she had pity on him and said, "This is one of the Hebrews' children."7 Then his sister said to Pharaoh's daughter, "Shall I go and call a woman for you who is nursing from the Hebrew women, so that she may nurse the child for you?"8 Pharaoh's daughter said to her, "Go ahead." So the girl went and called the child's mother.9 Then Pharaoh's daughter said to her, "Take this child away and nurse him for me, and I will give you your wages." So the woman took the child and nursed him.10 And the child grew, and she brought him to Pharaoh's daughter and (C1)he became her son. And she named him (F1)Moses, and said, "Because I drew him out of the water."
11 Now it came about in those days, (C1)when Moses had grown up, that he went out to his (F1)fellow Hebrews and looked at their (F2)(C2)hard labors; and (C3)he saw an Egyptian beating a Hebrew, one of his (F1)fellow Hebrews.12 So he (F1)looked this way and that, and when he saw that there was no one around, he (C1)struck and killed the Egyptian, and hid (F2)his body in the sand.13 Now he went out (C1)the next day, and behold, two Hebrews were (F1)fighting with each other; and he said to the (F2)offender, "Why are you striking your companion?"14 But he said, "(C1)Who made you a (F1)ruler and a judge over us? Do you (F2)intend to kill me as you killed the Egyptian?" Then Moses was afraid and said, "Surely the matter has become known!"
Moses Escapes to Midian
15 When Pharaoh heard about this matter, he tried to kill Moses. But (C1)Moses fled from the presence of Pharaoh and (F1)settled in the land of Midian, and he sat down (C2)by a well.16 Now (C1)the priest of Midian had seven daughters; and (C2)they came to draw water and filled the troughs to water their father's flock.17 Then the shepherds came and drove them away, but (C1)Moses stood up and helped them and watered their flock.18 When they came to their father (C1)Reuel, he said, "Why have you come back so soon today?"19 They said, "An Egyptian saved us from (F1)the shepherds, and what is more, he even drew water for us and watered the flock."20 So he said to his daughters, "Where is he then? Why is it that you have left the man behind? Invite him (F1)to have something to eat."21 And (C1)Moses was willing to live with the man. And he gave his daughter (C2)Zipporah to Moses.22 Then she gave birth to (C1)a son, and he named him (F1)Gershom, for he said, "I have been (C2)a stranger in a foreign land."
23 Now it came about in the course of those many days that the king of Egypt died. And the sons of Israel (C1)groaned because of the bondage, and they cried out; and (C2)their cry for help because of their bondage ascended to God.24 So (C1)God heard their groaning; and God remembered (C2)His covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.25 And (C1)God saw the sons of Israel, and God (F1)took notice of them.
The Burning Bush
1 Now Moses was pasturing the flock of his father-in-law (C1)Jethro, the priest of Midian; and he led the flock to the (F1)west side of the wilderness and came to (C2)Horeb, the (C3)mountain of God.2 Then (C1)the angel of the LORD appeared to him in a blazing fire from the midst of (F1)a (C2)bush; and he looked, and behold, the bush was burning with fire, yet the bush was not being consumed.3 So Moses said, "(C1)I must turn aside and see this (F1)marvelous sight, why the bush is not burning up!"4 When the LORD saw that he turned aside to look, (C1)God called to him from the midst of the bush and said, "Moses, Moses!" And he said, "Here I am."5 Then He said, "Do not come near here; (C1)remove your sandals from your feet, for the place on which you are standing is holy ground."6 And He said, "(C1)I am the God of your father—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob." (C2)Then Moses hid his face, for he was (C3)afraid to look at God.
7 And the LORD said, "I have certainly (C1)seen the oppression of My people who are in Egypt, and have heard their outcry because of their taskmasters, for I am aware of their sufferings.8 "So I have come down (C1)to rescue them from the (F1)power of the Egyptians, and to bring them up from that land to a (C2)good and spacious land, to a land flowing with milk and honey, to the place of (C3)the Canaanite, the Hittite, the Amorite, the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite.9 "And now, behold, (C1)the cry of the sons of Israel has come to Me; furthermore, I have seen the oppression with which the Egyptians are oppressing them.
The Mission of Moses
10 "And now come, and I will send you to Pharaoh, (C1)so that you may bring My people, the sons of Israel, out of Egypt."11 But Moses said to God, "(C1)Who am I, that I should go to Pharaoh, and that I should bring the sons of Israel out of Egypt?"12 And He said, "Assuredly (C1)I will be with you, and this shall be the sign to you that it is I who have sent you: (C2)when you have brought the people out of Egypt, (C3)you shall (F1)worship God at this mountain."13 Then Moses said to God, "Behold, I am going to the sons of Israel, and I will say to them, 'The God of your fathers has sent me to you.' Now they may say to me, 'What is His name?' What shall I say to them?"14 And God said to Moses, "(F1)(C1)I AM WHO (F1)I AM"; and He said, "This is what you shall say to the sons of Israel: '(F1)I AM has sent me to you.'"15 God furthermore said to Moses, "This is what you shall say to the sons of Israel: '(C1)The LORD, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you.' This is My name forever, and this is the (F1)(C2)name for (F2)all generations to use to call upon Me.16 "Go and (C1)gather the elders of Israel together and say to them, '(C2)The LORD, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob has appeared to me, saying, "(F1)(C3)I am indeed concerned about you and what has been done to you in Egypt.17 "So (C1)I said, I will bring you up out of the oppression of Egypt to the land of (C2)the Canaanite, the Hittite, the Amorite, the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite, to a land (C3)flowing with milk and honey."'18 "Then (C1)they will (F1)pay attention to what you say; and (C2)you with the elders of Israel will come to the king of Egypt, and you will say to him, 'The LORD, the God of the Hebrews, has met with us. So now, please let us go a (C3)three days' journey into the wilderness, so that we may sacrifice to the LORD our God.'19 "But I know that the king of Egypt (C1)will not permit you to go, (C2)except (F1)under compulsion.20 "So I will reach out with (C1)My hand and strike Egypt with all My (C2)miracles which I shall do in the midst of it; and (C3)after that he will let you go.21 "I will grant this people (C1)favor in the sight of the Egyptians; and it shall be that when you go, you will not go empty-handed.22 "But every woman (C1)shall ask her neighbor and the woman who lives in her house for articles of silver and articles of gold, and clothing; and you will put them on your sons and daughters. So you will (C2)plunder the Egyptians."
Matthew 24:1-28
Chapter 24
Signs of Christ's Return
1 (C1)Jesus (C2)left the temple area and was going on His way (F1)when His disciples came up to point out the temple buildings to Him.2 But He responded and said to them, "Do you not see all these things? Truly I say to you, (C1)not one stone here will be left upon another, which will not be torn down."
3 And as He was sitting on (C1)the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately, saying, "Tell us, when will these things happen, and what will be the sign of (C2)Your coming, and of the (F1)end of the age?"
4 And Jesus answered and said to them, "(C1)See to it that no one (F1)misleads you.5 "For (C1)many will come in My name, saying, 'I am the (F1)Christ,' and they will (F2)mislead many people.6 "And you will be hearing of (C1)wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not alarmed, for those things must take place, but that is not yet the end.7 "For (C1)nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be (C2)famines and earthquakes in various places.8 "(C1)But all these things are merely the beginning of birth pains.
9 "(C1)Then they will hand you over to tribulation and kill you, and (C2)you will be hated by all nations because of My name.10 "And at that time many will (F1)(C1)fall away, and they will (F2)betray one another and hate one another.11 "And many (C1)false prophets will rise up and (F1)mislead many people.12 "And because lawlessness is increased, (F1)most people's love will become cold.13 "(C1)But the one who endures to the end is the one who will be saved.14 "This (C1)gospel of the kingdom (C2)shall be preached in the whole (F1)(C3)world as a testimony to all the nations, and then the end will come.
Perilous Times
15 "Therefore when you see the (C1)ABOMINATION OF DESOLATION which was spoken of through Daniel the prophet, standing in (C2)the holy place—(F1)(C3)let the (F2)reader understand—16 then those who are in Judea must flee to the mountains.17 "(F1)Whoever is on (C1)the (F2)housetop must not go down to get things out of his house.18 "And (F1)whoever is in the field must not turn back to get his cloak.19 "But (C1)woe to those women who are pregnant, and to those who are nursing babies in those days!20 "Moreover, pray that (F1)when you flee, it will not be in the winter, or on a Sabbath.21 "For then there will be a (C1)great tribulation, such as has not occurred since the beginning of the world until now, nor ever will again.22 "And if those days had not been cut short, no (F1)life would have been saved; but for (C1)the sake of the (F2)elect those days will be cut short.23 "(C1)Then if anyone says to you, 'Behold, here is the (F1)Christ,' or 'He is over here,' do not believe him.24 "For false christs and (C1)false prophets will arise and will provide great (F1)(C2)signs and wonders, so as to mislead, if possible, even (C3)the (F2)elect.25 "Behold, I have told you in advance.26 "So if they say to you, 'Behold, He is in the wilderness,' do not go out; or, 'Behold, He is in the inner rooms,' do not believe them.27 "(C1)For just as the lightning comes from the east and flashes as far as the west, so will the (C2)coming of the (C3)Son of Man (F1)be.28 "(C1)Wherever the corpse is, there the (F1)vultures will gather.<
