Exodus 6:28-8:32

Chapter 6

28 Now it came about on the day when the LORD spoke to Moses in the land of Egypt,29 that the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, "(C1)I am the LORD; (C2)say to Pharaoh king of Egypt all that I say to you."30 But Moses said before the LORD, "Behold, I am (F1)(C1)unskilled in speech; how then will Pharaoh listen to me?"

Chapter 7

I Will Extend My Hand

1 Then the LORD said to Moses, "(C1)See, I have made you as God to Pharaoh, and your brother Aaron shall be your prophet.2 "As for you, you shall speak all that I command you, and your brother (C1)Aaron shall speak to Pharaoh that he let the sons of Israel go out of his land.3 "But (C1)I will harden Pharaoh's heart, so that I may (C2)multiply My signs and My wonders in the land of Egypt.4 "When (C1)Pharaoh does not listen to you, I will lay My hand on Egypt and (C2)bring out My armies, My people the sons of Israel, from the land of Egypt by (C3)great judgments.5 "Then (C1)the Egyptians shall know that I am the LORD, when I (C2)extend My hand over Egypt and bring out the sons of Israel from their midst."6 So Moses and Aaron did this; (C1)as the LORD commanded them, so they did.7 And Moses was (C1)eighty years old and Aaron (F1)eighty-three, when they spoke to Pharaoh.

Aaron's Staff Turns into a Serpent

8 Now the LORD spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying,9 "When Pharaoh speaks to you, saying, '(F1)(C1)Work a miracle,' then you shall say to Aaron, '(C2)Take your staff and throw it down before Pharaoh, so that it may turn into a serpent.'"10 So Moses and Aaron came to Pharaoh, and so they did, just as the LORD had commanded; and Aaron threw his staff down before Pharaoh and (F1)his servants, and it (C1)turned into a serpent.11 Then Pharaoh also (C1)called for the wise men and the sorcerers, and they too, the (C2)soothsayer priests of Egypt, did the same with (C3)their secret arts.12 For each one threw down his staff, and they turned into serpents. But Aaron's staff swallowed their staffs.13 Yet (C1)Pharaoh's heart was (F1)hardened, and he did not listen to them, just as the LORD had said.

Water Turned into Blood

14 Then the LORD said to Moses, "Pharaoh's heart is (F1)stubborn; he refuses to let the people go.15 "Go to Pharaoh in the morning (F1)just as (C1)he is going out to the water, and position yourself to meet him on the bank of the Nile; and you shall take in your hand (C2)the staff that was turned into a serpent.16 "And (C1)you shall say to him, 'The LORD, the God of the Hebrews, sent me to you, saying, "(C2)Let My people go, so that they may serve Me in the wilderness. But behold, you have not listened up to now."17 'This is what the LORD says: "(C1)By this you shall know that I am the LORD: behold, I am going to strike (F1)the water that is in the Nile with the staff that is in my hand, and (C2)it will be turned into blood.18 "Then (C1)the fish that are in the Nile will die, the Nile will stink, and the Egyptians will (F1)(C2)no longer be able to drink water from the Nile."'"19 Then the LORD said to Moses, "Say to Aaron, 'Take your staff and (C1)extend your hand over the waters of Egypt, over their rivers, over their (F1)streams, over their pools, and over all their reservoirs of water, so that they may become blood; and there will be blood through all the land of Egypt, both in containers of wood and in containers of stone.'"

20 So Moses and Aaron did just as the LORD had commanded. And he lifted up (F1)(C1)the staff and struck the water that was in the Nile in the sight of Pharaoh and in the sight of his servants; and (C2)all the water that was in the Nile was turned into blood.21 Then the fish that were in the Nile died, and the Nile stank, so that the Egyptians could not drink water from the Nile. And the blood was through all the land of Egypt.22 (C1)But the soothsayer priests of Egypt did the same with their secret arts; and Pharaoh's heart was (F1)hardened, and he did not listen to them, just as the LORD had said.23 Then Pharaoh turned and went into his house (F1)with no concern even for this.24 So all the Egyptians dug around the Nile for water to drink, because they could not drink from the water of the Nile.25 Seven days (F1)passed after the LORD had struck the Nile.

Chapter 8

Frogs over the Land

1 (F1)Then the LORD said to Moses, "Go to Pharaoh and say to him, 'This is what the LORD says: "(C1)Let My people go, so that they may serve Me.2 "But if you refuse to let them go, behold, I am going to strike your entire territory with frogs.3 "The Nile will (C1)swarm with frogs, which will come up and go into your house, and into your bedroom and on your bed, and into the houses of your servants, and on your people, and into your ovens and kneading bowls.4 "So the frogs will come up on you, your people, and on all your servants."'"5 (F1)Then the LORD said to Moses, "Say to Aaron, '(C1)Extend your hand with your staff over the rivers, over the (F2)streams, and over the pools, and make frogs come up on the land of Egypt.'"6 So Aaron extended his hand over the waters of Egypt, and the (F1)(C1)frogs came up and covered the land of Egypt.7 However, (C1)the soothsayer priests did the same with their secret arts, (F1)making frogs come up on the land of Egypt.

8 Then Pharaoh (C1)called for Moses and Aaron and said, "(C2)Plead with the LORD (F1)to remove the frogs from me and from my people; and (C3)I will let the people go, so that they may sacrifice to the LORD."9 And Moses said to Pharaoh, "(F1)The honor is yours to tell me: when shall I plead for you and your servants and your people, (F2)that the frogs be destroyed from you and your houses, that they be left only in the Nile?"

10 Then he said, "Tomorrow." So he said, "May it be according to your word, so that you may know that there is (C1)no one like the LORD our God.11 "The (C1)frogs will depart from you and your houses, and from your servants and your people; they will be left only in the Nile."12 Then Moses and Aaron went out from Pharaoh, and (C1)Moses cried out to the LORD concerning the frogs which He had (F1)inflicted upon Pharaoh.13 The LORD did according to the word of Moses, and the frogs died out of the houses, the courtyards, and the fields.14 So they piled them in heaps, and the land stank.15 But when Pharaoh saw that there was relief, he (F1)hardened his heart and (C1)did not listen to them, just as the LORD had said.

The Plague of Insects

16 Then the LORD said to Moses, "Say to Aaron, 'Extend your staff and strike the dust of the earth, so that it may turn into (F1)gnats through all the land of Egypt.'"17 They did so; and Aaron extended his hand with his staff and struck the dust of the earth, and there were (F1)gnats on every (F2)person and animal. All the dust of the earth turned into (F1)(C1)gnats through all the land of Egypt.18 The soothsayer priests tried with their secret arts to produce (F1)gnats, but (C1)they could not; so there were (F1)gnats on every person and animal.19 Then the soothsayer priests said to Pharaoh, "(C1)This is the finger of God." But Pharaoh's heart was (F1)hardened, and he did not listen to them, just as the LORD had said.

20 Then the LORD said to Moses, "(C1)Rise early in the morning and present yourself before Pharaoh, (F1)as (C2)he comes out to the water; and say to him, 'This is what the LORD says: "(C3)Let My people go, so that they may serve Me.21 "For if you are not going to let My people go, behold, I will send swarms of flies on you and on your servants and on your people, and into your houses; and the houses of the Egyptians will be full of swarms of flies, and also the ground on which they live.22 "(C1)But on that day I will set apart the land of Goshen, where My people are (F1)living, so that no swarms of flies will be there, in order that you may know that (F2)(C2)I, the LORD, am in the midst of the land.23 "I will (F1)put a division between My people and your people. Tomorrow this sign will occur."'"24 Then the LORD did so. And (F1)thick swarms of flies entered the house of Pharaoh and the houses of his servants, and the land was (C1)laid waste because of the swarms of flies in all the land of Egypt.

25 Then Pharaoh (C1)called for Moses and Aaron and said, "(C2)Go, sacrifice to your God within the land."26 But Moses said, "It is not permissible for us to do so, because we will sacrifice to the LORD our God (F1)that which is (C1)an abomination to the Egyptians. If we sacrifice (F1)that which is an abomination to the Egyptians before their eyes, will they not stone us?27 "We must go a (C1)three days' journey into the wilderness and sacrifice to the LORD our God, just as He (F1)commands us."28 Pharaoh said, "(C1)I will let you go, so that you may sacrifice to the LORD your God in the wilderness; only you shall not go very far away. (C2)Plead for me."29 Then Moses said, "Behold, I am going to leave you, and I will plead with the LORD that the swarms of flies may depart from Pharaoh, from his servants, and from his people tomorrow; only do not let Pharaoh (C1)deal deceitfully again in not letting the people go to sacrifice to the LORD."

30 So (C1)Moses left Pharaoh and pleaded with the LORD.31 The LORD did (F1)as Moses asked, and removed the swarms of flies from Pharaoh, from his servants, and from his people; not one remained.32 But Pharaoh (F1)hardened his heart this time also, and (C1)he did not let the people go.

Proverbs 2

Chapter 2

The Pursuit of Wisdom Brings Security

1 My son, if you will (C1)receive my words
And (C2)treasure my commandments within you,

2 (C1)Make your ear attentive to wisdom;
Incline your heart to understanding.

3 For if you cry out for insight,
And (F1)raise your voice for understanding;

4 If you seek her as (C1)silver
And search for her as for (C2)hidden treasures;

5 Then you will understand the (C1)fear of the LORD,
And discover the knowledge of God.

6 For (C1)the LORD gives wisdom;
From His mouth come knowledge and understanding.

7 He stores up sound wisdom for the upright;
He is a (C1)shield to those who walk in integrity,

8 Guarding the paths of justice,
And He (C1)watches over the way of His godly ones.

9 Then you will discern (C1)righteousness, justice,
And integrity, and every (C2)good path.

10 For (C1)wisdom will enter your heart,
And (C2)knowledge will be delightful to your soul;

11 Discretion will (C1)watch over you,
Understanding will guard you,

12 To (C1)rescue you from the way of evil,
From a person who speaks (C2)perverse things;

13 From those who (C1)leave the paths of uprightness
To walk in the (C2)ways of darkness;

14 Who (C1)delight in doing evil
And rejoice in the perversity of evil;

15 Whose paths are (C1)crooked,
And who are devious in their ways;

16 To (C1)rescue you from the strange woman,
From the (C2)foreign woman who flatters with her words,

17 Who leaves the (C1)companion of her youth
And forgets the (C2)covenant of her God;

18 For (C1)her house sinks down to death,
And her tracks lead to the (F1)dead;

19 None (C1)who go to her return,
Nor do they reach the (C2)paths of life.

20 So you will (C1)walk in the way of good people
And keep to the (C2)paths of the righteous.

21 For (C1)the upright will live in the land,
And (C2)the blameless will remain in it;

22 But (C1)the wicked will be eliminated from the land,
And (C2)the treacherous will be (C3)torn away from it.

Hebrews 9:1-22

Chapter 9

The Old and the New

1 Now even the first covenant had (C1)regulations for divine worship and (C2)the earthly sanctuary.2 For (C1)a (F1)tabernacle was equipped, the (F2)outer sanctuary, in which were (C2)the lampstand, (C3)the table, and (C4)the (F3)sacred bread; this is called the Holy Place.3 Behind (C1)the second veil there was a (F1)tabernacle which is called the (C2)Most Holy Place,4 having a golden (F1)(C1)altar of incense and (C2)the ark of the covenant covered on all sides with gold, in which was (C3)a golden jar holding the manna, (C4)Aaron's staff which budded, and (C5)the tablets of the covenant;5 and above it were the (C1)cherubim of glory (C2)overshadowing the (F1)atoning cover; but about these things we cannot now speak in detail.

6 Now when these things have been so prepared, the priests (C1)are continually entering the (F1)outer (F2)tabernacle, performing the divine worship,7 but into (C1)the second, only (C2)the high priest enters (C3)once a year, (C4)not without taking blood which he (C5)offers for himself and for the (F1)(C6)sins of the people committed in ignorance.8 (C1)The Holy Spirit is signifying this, (C2)that the way into the holy place has not yet been disclosed while the (F1)outer tabernacle is still standing,9 which is a symbol for the present time. Accordingly (C1)both gifts and sacrifices are offered which (C2)cannot make the worshiper perfect in conscience,10 since they relate only to (C1)food, (C2)drink, and various (C3)washings, (C4)regulations for the (F1)body imposed until (C5)a time of reformation.

11 But when Christ appeared as a (C1)high priest of the (C2)good things (F1)having come, He entered through (C3)the greater and more perfect (F2)tabernacle, (C4)not made by hands, that is, (C5)not of this creation;12 and not through (C1)the blood of goats and calves, but (C2)through His own blood, He (C3)entered the holy place (C4)once for all time, (F1)having obtained (C5)eternal redemption.13 For if (C1)the blood of goats and bulls, and (C2)the (F1)ashes of a heifer sprinkling those who have been defiled, sanctify for the (F2)cleansing of the flesh,14 how much more will (C1)the blood of Christ, who through (F1)(C2)the eternal Spirit (C3)offered Himself without blemish to God, (C4)cleanse your conscience from (C5)dead works to serve (C6)the living God?

15 For this reason (C1)He is the (C2)mediator of a (C3)new covenant, so that, since a death has taken place for the redemption of the violations that were committed under the first covenant, those who have been (C4)called may (C5)receive the promise of (C6)the eternal inheritance.16 For where there is a (F1)covenant, there must of necessity (F2)be the death of the one who made it.17 For a (F1)covenant is valid only when people are dead, (F2)for it is never in force while the one who made it lives.18 Therefore even the first covenant was not inaugurated without blood.19 For when every commandment had been (C1)spoken by Moses to all the people according to the Law, (C2)he took the (C3)blood of the calves and the goats, with (C4)water and scarlet wool and hyssop, and sprinkled both (C5)the book itself and all the people,20 saying, "(C1)THIS IS THE BLOOD OF THE COVENANT WHICH GOD COMMANDED YOU."21 And in the same way he (C1)sprinkled both the (F1)tabernacle and all the vessels of the ministry with the blood.22 And (C1)almost all things are cleansed with blood, according to the Law, and (C2)without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.<
