Exodus 16,17

The LORD Provides Manna

1 Then they set out from Elim, and all the congregation of the sons of Israel came to the wilderness of (C1)Sin, which is between Elim and Sinai, on (C2)the fifteenth day of the second month after their departure from the land of Egypt.2 But the whole congregation of the sons of Israel (C1)grumbled against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness.3 The sons of Israel said to them, "(C1)If only we had died by the LORD'S hand in the land of Egypt, (C2)when we sat by the pots of meat, when we ate bread until we were full; for you have brought us out into this wilderness to kill this entire assembly with hunger!"

4 Then the LORD said to Moses, "Behold, (C1)I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather a day's portion every day, so that I may (C2)test them, whether or not they will walk in My (F1)instruction.5 "(C1)On the sixth day, when they prepare what they bring in, it will be twice as much as they gather daily."6 So Moses and Aaron said to all the sons of Israel, "At evening (F1)(C1)you will know that the LORD has brought you out of the land of Egypt;7 and in the morning (F1)you will see (C1)the glory of the LORD, for (C2)He hears your grumblings against the LORD; and (C3)what are we, that you grumble against us?"

The LORD Provides Meat

8 And Moses said, "This will happen when the LORD gives you meat to eat in the evening, and bread to the full in the morning; for the LORD hears your grumblings which you grumble against Him. And what are we? Your grumblings are (C1)not against us but against the LORD."

9 Then Moses said to Aaron, "Say to all the congregation of the sons of Israel, '(C1)Come forward before the LORD, for He has heard your grumblings.'"10 And it came about, as Aaron spoke to the entire congregation of the sons of Israel, that they (F1)looked toward the wilderness, and behold, (C1)the glory of the LORD appeared in the cloud.11 And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,12 "(C1)I have heard the grumblings of the sons of Israel; speak to them, saying, '(F1)At twilight you shall eat meat, and in the morning you shall be filled with bread; and (C2)you shall know that I am the LORD your God.'"

13 So it came about at evening that (C1)the quails came up and covered the camp, and in the morning (C2)there was a layer of dew around the camp.14 (C1)When the layer of dew (F1)evaporated, behold, on the (F2)surface of the wilderness (C2)there was a fine flake-like thing, fine as the frost on the ground.15 When the sons of Israel saw it, they said to one another, "(F1)What is it?" For they did not know what it was. And Moses said to them, "(C1)It is the bread which the LORD has given you to eat.16 "This is (F1)what the LORD has commanded: 'Everyone gather (F2)as much as he will eat; you shall take (F3)(C1)an omer apiece according to the number of people each of you has in his tent.'"17 The sons of Israel did so, and some gathered much and some little.18 When they measured it by the (F1)omer, (C1)the one who had gathered much did not have too much, and the one who had gathered little did not have too little; everyone gathered (F2)as much as he would eat.19 Moses said to them, "(C1)No one is to leave any of it until morning."20 But they did not listen to Moses, and some left part of it until morning, and it bred worms and stank; and Moses was angry with them.21 They gathered it morning by morning, everyone (F1)as much as he would eat; but when the sun became hot, it would melt.

The Sabbath

22 (C1)Now on the sixth day they gathered twice as much bread, (F1)two omers for each one. When all the (C2)leaders of the congregation came and told Moses,23 then he said to them, "This is what the LORD (F1)meant: (C1)Tomorrow is a Sabbath observance, a holy Sabbath to the LORD. Bake what you will bake and boil what you will boil, and (C2)all that is left over (F2)put aside to be kept until morning."24 So they put it aside until morning, as Moses had ordered, and (C1)it did not stink nor was there a maggot in it.25 Then Moses said, "Eat it today, for today is a Sabbath to the LORD; today you will not find it in the field.26 "(C1)Six days you shall gather it, but on the seventh day, the Sabbath, there will be (F1)none."

27 Yet it came about on the seventh day that some of the people went out to gather, but they found none.28 Then the LORD said to Moses, "(C1)How long do you refuse to keep My commandments and My (F1)instructions?29 "See, (F1)the LORD has given you the Sabbath; for that reason He gives you bread for two days on the sixth day. Remain, everyone, in his place; no one is to leave his place on the seventh day."30 So the people rested on the seventh day.

31 And the house of (C1)Israel named the bread (F1)manna, and it was like (C2)coriander seed, white, and its taste was like wafers with honey.32 Then Moses said, "This is (F1)what the LORD has commanded: 'A (F2)full omer of it is to be kept safe throughout your generations, so that they may see the bread that I fed you in the wilderness, when I brought you out of the land of Egypt.'"33 And Moses said to Aaron, "(C1)Take a jar and put a (F1)full omer of manna in it, and place it before the LORD to be kept safe throughout your generations."34 As the LORD commanded Moses, so Aaron placed it before (C1)the Testimony, to be kept.35 And (C1)the sons of Israel ate the manna for forty years, until they came to an inhabited land; they ate the manna until they came to the border of the land of Canaan.36 (Now (C1)an (F1)omer is a tenth of an ephah.)

Water in the Rock

1 Then all the congregation of the sons of Israel journeyed by (F1)stages from the wilderness of (C1)Sin, according to the (F2)command of the LORD, and camped at (C2)Rephidim, and there was no water for the people to drink.2 So the people (C1)quarreled with Moses and said, "Give us water so that we may drink!" And Moses said to them, "(C2)Why do you quarrel with me? (C3)Why do you test the LORD?"3 But the people were thirsty for water there; and (F1)they (C1)grumbled against Moses and said, "Why is it that you have brought us up from Egypt, to kill (F2)us and (F3)our children and (F3)(C2)our livestock with thirst?"4 So Moses cried out to the LORD, saying, "What am I to do with this people? A (C1)little more and they will stone me!"5 Then the LORD said to Moses, "Pass before the people and take with you some of (C1)the elders of Israel; and take in your hand your staff with which (C2)you struck the Nile, and go.6 "Behold, I will stand before you there on the rock at (C1)Horeb; and (C2)you shall strike the rock, and water will come out of it, so that the people may drink." And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel.7 Then he named the place (F1)(C1)Massah and (F2)(C2)Meribah because of the quarrel of the sons of Israel, and because they (C3)tested the LORD, saying, "Is the LORD among us, or not?"

Miraculous Battle against Amalek

8 Then (C1)Amalek came and fought against Israel at (C2)Rephidim.9 So Moses said to (C1)Joshua, "Choose men for us and go out, fight against Amalek. Tomorrow I will station myself on the top of the hill with (C2)the staff of God in my hand."10 Joshua did just as Moses (F1)told him, (F2)and fought against Amalek; and Moses, Aaron, and (C1)Hur went up to the top of the hill.11 So it came about, when Moses held his hand up, that Israel prevailed; but when he let his hand (F1)down, Amalek prevailed.12 And Moses' hands were heavy. So they took a stone and put it under him, and he sat on it; and Aaron and Hur (C1)supported his hands, one on one side and one on the other. So his hands were steady until the sun set.13 And Joshua (F1)defeated Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword.

14 Then the LORD said to Moses, "(C1)Write this in (F1)a book as a memorial and (F2)recite it to Joshua, (F3)that (C2)I will utterly wipe out the memory of Amalek from under heaven."15 And Moses built an (C1)altar and named it (C2)The LORD is My Banner;16 and he said, "(F1)(C1)Because the LORD has sworn, the LORD will have war against Amalek from generation to generation."

Proverbs 7:6-27

Chapter 7

6 For (C1)at the window of my house
I looked out (C2)through my lattice,

7 And I saw among the (C1)naive,
And discerned among the (F1)youths
A young man (C2)lacking (F2)sense,

8 Passing through the street near (C1)her corner;
And he walks along the way to (C2)her house,

9 In the (C1)twilight, in the (F1)evening,
In the (F2)middle of the night and the darkness.

10 And behold, a woman comes to meet him,
(C1)Dressed as a prostitute and cunning of heart.

11 She is (C1)boisterous and rebellious,
Her (C2)feet do not remain at home;

12 She is now in the streets, now (C1)in the public squares,
And (C2)lurks by every corner.

13 So she seizes him and kisses him,
(F1)And with a (C1)brazen face she says to him:

14 "(F1)I was due to offer (C1)peace offerings;
Today I have (C2)paid my vows.

15 "Therefore I have come out to meet you,
To seek your presence diligently, and I have found you.

16 "I have spread my couch with (C1)coverings,
With colored (C2)linens of Egypt.

17 "I have sprinkled my bed
With (C1)myrrh, aloes, and (C2)cinnamon.

18 "Come, let's drink our fill of love until morning;
Let's delight ourselves with caresses.

19 "For (F1)my husband is not at home;
He has gone on a long journey.

20 "He has taken a (C1)bag of money (F1)with him.
At the full moon he will come home."

21 With her many persuasions she entices him;
With her (F1)(C1)flattering lips she seduces him.

22 Suddenly he follows her
As an ox goes to the slaughter,
Or as (F1)one walks in ankle bracelets to the discipline of a fool,

23 Until an arrow pierces through his liver;
As a (C1)bird hurries to the snare,
So he does not know that it will cost him his life.

24 Now therefore, my sons, (C1)listen to me,
And pay attention to the words of my mouth.

25 Do not let your heart (C1)turn aside to her ways,
Do not stray into her paths.

26 For many are the (F1)victims she has brought to ruin,
And (C1)numerous are all those slaughtered by her.

27 Her (C1)house is the way to Sheol,
Descending to the chambers of death.

Hebrews 12

Chapter 12

Jesus, the Example

1 Therefore, since we also have such a great cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let's (C1)rid ourselves of every obstacle and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let's (C2)run with (C3)endurance the race that is set before us,2 looking only at Jesus, the (F1)(C1)originator and perfecter of the faith, who for the joy set before Him (C2)endured the cross, (C3)despising the shame, and has (C4)sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

3 For (C1)consider Him who has endured such hostility by sinners against Himself, so that you will not grow weary (F1)(C2)and lose heart.

A Father's Discipline

4 (C1)You have not yet resisted (F1)(C2)to the point of shedding blood in your striving against sin;5 and you have forgotten the exhortation which is addressed to you as sons,

"(C1)MY SON, DO NOT REGARD LIGHTLY THE DISCIPLINE OF THE LORD,
NOR (C2)FAINT WHEN YOU ARE PUNISHED BY HIM;

6 (C1)FOR (C2)WHOM THE LORD LOVES HE DISCIPLINES,
AND HE PUNISHES EVERY SON WHOM HE ACCEPTS."

7 It is for discipline that you endure; (C1)God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom his father does not discipline?8 But if you are without discipline, (C1)of which all have become partakers, then you are illegitimate children and not sons.9 Furthermore, we had (F1)earthly fathers to discipline us, and we (C1)respected them; shall we not much more be subject to (C2)the Father of (F2)spirits, and (C3)live?10 For they disciplined us for a short time as seemed best to them, but He disciplines us for our good, (C1)so that we may share His holiness.11 (C1)For the moment, all discipline seems not to be pleasant, but painful; yet to those who have been trained by it, afterward it yields the (C2)peaceful fruit of righteousness.

12 Therefore, (F1)(C1)strengthen the hands that are weak and the knees that are feeble,13 and (C1)make straight paths for your feet, so that the limb which is impaired may not be dislocated, but rather (C2)be healed.

14 (C1)Pursue peace with all people, and the (C2)holiness without which no one will (C3)see the Lord.15 See to it that no one (C1)comes short of the grace of God; that no (C2)root of bitterness springing up causes trouble, and by it many become (C3)defiled;16 that there be no (C1)sexually immoral or (C2)godless person like Esau, (C3)who sold his own birthright for a single meal.17 For you know that even afterward, (C1)when he wanted to inherit the blessing, he was rejected, for he found no place for repentance, though he sought for it with tears.

Contrast of Sinai and Zion

18 (C1)For you have not come to (C2)a mountain that can be touched and to a blazing fire, and to darkness and gloom and whirlwind,19 and to the (C1)blast of a trumpet and the (C2)sound of words, which sound was such that those who heard (C3)begged that no further word be spoken to them.20 For they could not (F1)cope with the command, "(C1)If even an animal touches the mountain, it shall be stoned."21 And so terrible was the sight, that Moses said, "(C1)I am terrified and trembling."22 But (C1)you have come to Mount Zion and to (C2)the city of (C3)the living God, (C4)the heavenly Jerusalem, and to (C5)myriads of (F1)angels,23 to the general assembly and (C1)church of the firstborn who (C2)are enrolled in heaven, and to God, (C3)the Judge of all, and to the (C4)spirits of the righteous made perfect,24 and to Jesus, the (C1)mediator of a new covenant, and to the (C2)sprinkled blood, which speaks better than (C3)the blood of Abel.

The Unshaken Kingdom

25 (C1)See to it that you do not refuse Him who is (C2)speaking. For (C3)if those did not escape when they (C4)refused him who (C5)warned them on earth, (F1)much less will we escape who turn away from Him who (C5)warns us from heaven.26 And (C1)His voice shook the earth then, but now He has promised, saying, "(C2)YET ONCE MORE I WILL SHAKE NOT ONLY THE EARTH, BUT ALSO THE HEAVEN."27 This expression, "Yet once more," denotes (C1)the removing of those things which can be shaken, as of created things, so that those things which cannot be shaken may remain.28 Therefore, since we receive a (C1)kingdom which cannot be shaken, let's (F1)show gratitude, by which we may (C2)offer to God an acceptable service with reverence and awe;29 for (C1)our God is a consuming fire.
