Chapter 1
The Law of Burnt Offerings
1 Now (C1)the LORD called to Moses and spoke to him from the tent of meeting, saying,2 "Speak to the sons of Israel and say to them, 'When anyone of you brings an (C1)offering to the LORD, you shall bring your offering of livestock from (C2)the herd or the flock.3 'If his offering is a (C1)burnt offering from the herd, he shall offer a male (C2)without defect; he shall offer it (C3)at the doorway of the tent of meeting, so that he may be accepted before the LORD.4 'And (C1)he shall lay his hand on the head of the burnt offering, so that it may be accepted for him to make (C2)atonement on his behalf.5 'Then (C1)he shall (F1)slaughter the (F2)bull before the LORD; and Aaron's sons the priests shall offer up (C2)the blood and (C3)sprinkle the blood around on the altar that is at the doorway of the tent of meeting.6 '(C1)He shall then skin the burnt offering and cut it into its pieces.7 'And (C1)the sons of Aaron the priest shall put fire on the altar and arrange wood on the fire.8 'Then Aaron's sons the priests shall arrange the pieces, with the head and the (C1)suet, on the wood which is on the fire that is on the altar.9 'Its (C1)entrails, however, and its legs he shall wash with water. And (C2)the priest shall offer all of it up in smoke on the altar as a burnt offering, an offering by fire as (C3)a soothing aroma to the LORD.
10 'But if his offering is from the flock, either from the sheep or from the goats, as a burnt offering, he shall offer a (C1)male without defect.11 'And (C1)he shall slaughter it on the side of the altar northward before the LORD, and Aaron's sons the priests shall sprinkle its blood around on the altar.12 'He shall then cut it into its pieces with its head and its (C1)suet, and the priest shall arrange them on the wood which is on the fire that is on the altar.13 'The entrails, however, and the legs he shall wash with water. And (C1)the priest shall offer all of it, and offer it up in smoke on the altar; it is a burnt offering, an offering by fire of a soothing aroma to the LORD.
14 'But if his offering to the LORD is a burnt offering of birds, then he shall bring his offering from the (C1)turtledoves or from young doves.15 'The priest shall bring it to the altar, and pinch off its head, and offer it up in smoke on the altar; and its blood is to be drained out (C1)on the side of the altar.16 'He shall also remove its craw with its feathers and throw it beside the altar eastward, to the place of the (C1)fatty ashes.17 'Then he shall tear it by its wings, but (C1)shall not sever it. And the priest shall offer it up in smoke on the altar, on the wood which is on the fire; (C2)it is a burnt offering, an offering by fire of a soothing aroma to the LORD.
Chapter 2
The Law of Grain Offerings
1 'Now when anyone presents a (C1)grain offering as an offering to the LORD, his offering shall be of fine flour, and he shall pour oil on it and put frankincense on it.2 'He shall then bring it to Aaron's sons the priests; and he shall take from it (C1)his handful of its fine flour and of its oil, with all of its frankincense. And the priest shall offer it up in smoke as its (C2)memorial portion on the altar, an offering by fire of a soothing aroma to the LORD.3 '(C1)The remainder of the grain offering belongs to (C2)Aaron and his sons: a most holy part of the offerings to the LORD by fire.
4 'Now when you bring an offering of a grain offering baked in an oven, it shall be (C1)unleavened cakes of fine flour mixed with oil, or unleavened wafers (F1)spread with oil.5 'And if your offering is a grain offering made (C1)on the griddle, it shall be of fine flour, unleavened, mixed with oil;6 you shall break it into bits and pour oil on it; it is a grain offering.7 'Now if your offering is a grain offering made (C1)in a (F1)pan, it shall be made of fine flour with oil.8 'When you bring in the grain offering which is made of these things to the LORD, it shall be presented to the priest, and he shall bring it to the altar.9 'The priest then shall take up from the grain offering (C1)its memorial portion, and shall offer it up in smoke on the altar as an offering by fire of a soothing aroma to the LORD.10 '(C1)The remainder of the grain offering belongs to Aaron and his sons: a most holy part of the offerings to the LORD by fire.
11 '(C1)No grain offering, which you bring to the LORD, shall be made with leaven, for you shall not offer (F1)up in smoke any leaven or any honey as an (C2)offering by fire to the LORD.12 '(C1)As an offering of first fruits you shall bring them to the LORD, but they shall not ascend as a soothing aroma on the altar.13 'Every grain offering of yours, moreover, you shall season with salt, so that (C1)the salt of the covenant of your God will not be lacking from your grain offering; with all your offerings you shall offer salt.
14 'Also if you bring a grain offering of early ripened things to the LORD, you shall bring (C1)fresh heads of grain roasted in the fire, crushed grain of new growth, for the grain offering of your early ripened produce.15 'You shall then put oil on it and place incense on it; it is a grain offering.16 'Then the priest shall offer up in smoke (C1)its memorial portion, part of its crushed grain and its oil with all its incense as an offering by fire to the LORD.
Proverbs 19
Chapter 19
On Life and Conduct
1 (C1)Better is a poor person who (C2)walks in his integrity
Than a person who is perverse in (F1)speech and is a fool.
2 Also it is not good for a person to be without knowledge,
And one who hurries (F1)(C1)his footsteps (F2)errs.
3 The (C1)foolishness of a person ruins his way,
And his heart (C2)rages against the LORD.
4 (C1)Wealth adds many friends,
But a poor person is separated from his friend.
5 A (C1)false witness will not go unpunished,
And one who (C2)declares lies will not escape.
6 (C1)Many will seek the favor of a (F1)generous person,
And every person is a friend to (C2)him who gives gifts.
7 All the brothers of a poor person hate him;
How much more do his (C1)friends abandon him!
He (C2)pursues them with words, but they are (F1)gone.
8 One who gets (F1)wisdom loves his own soul;
One who keeps understanding will (C1)find good.
9 A (C1)false witness will not go unpunished,
And one who declares lies will perish.
10 Luxury is (C1)not fitting for a fool;
Much less for a (C2)slave to rule over princes.
11 A person's (C1)discretion makes him slow to anger,
And it is his glory (C2)to overlook an offense.
12 A (C1)king's wrath is like the roaring of a lion,
But his favor is like (C2)dew on the grass.
13 A (C1)foolish son is destruction to his father,
And the (C2)quarrels of a wife are a constant dripping.
14 House and wealth are an (C1)inheritance from fathers,
But a prudent wife is from the LORD.
15 (C1)Laziness casts one into a deep sleep,
And (F1)a lazy (F2)person will suffer hunger.
16 One who (C1)keeps the commandment keeps his soul,
But one who (F1)is careless of (F2)conduct will die.
17 One who (C1)is gracious to a poor person lends to the LORD,
And He will repay him for his (F1)(C2)good deed.
18 (C1)Discipline your son while there is hope,
And do not desire (F1)his death.
19 A person of great anger will suffer the penalty,
For if you rescue him, you will only have to do it again.
20 (C1)Listen to advice and accept discipline,
So that you may be wise (F1)the rest of your days.
21 Many (C1)plans are in a person's heart,
But the (C2)advice of the LORD will stand.
22 What is desirable in a person is his (F1)kindness,
And it is better to be a poor person than a liar.
23 (F1)The (C1)fear of the LORD leads to life,
So that one may sleep (C2)satisfied, (F2)(C3)untouched by evil.
24 The (F1)(C1)lazy one buries his hand (C2)in the dish,
But will not even bring it back to his mouth.
25 (C1)Strike a scoffer and the naive may become clever,
But (C2)rebuke one who has understanding, and he will (F1)gain knowledge.
26 He (C1)who assaults his father and drives his mother away
Is a shameful and disgraceful son.
27 Stop listening, my son, to discipline,
And you will stray from the words of knowledge.
28 A worthless witness makes a mockery of justice,
And the mouth of the wicked (F1)(C1)swallows wrongdoing.
29 (F1)Judgments are prepared for (C1)scoffers,
And (C2)beatings for the backs of fools.
Matthew 8:14-34
Chapter 8
14 (C1)When Jesus came into Peter's (F1)home, He saw his mother-in-law lying sick in bed with a fever.15 And He touched her hand, and the fever left her; and she got up and (F1)waited on Him.16 Now when evening came, they brought to Him many (C1)who were demon-possessed; and He cast out the spirits with a word, and (C2)healed all who were ill.17 This happened so that what was spoken through Isaiah the prophet would be fulfilled: "(C1)HE HIMSELF TOOK OUR ILLNESSES AND (F1)CARRIED AWAY OUR DISEASES."
Discipleship Tested
18 Now when Jesus saw a crowd around Him, (C1)He gave orders to depart to the other side of the sea.19 (C1)Then a scribe came and said to Him, "Teacher, I will follow You wherever You go."20 And Jesus (*)said to him, "The foxes have holes and the birds of the sky have nests, but (C1)the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head."21 And another of the disciples said to Him, "Lord, allow me first to go and bury my father."22 But Jesus (*)said to him, "(C1)Follow Me, and let the dead bury their own dead."
Jesus Calms the Storm
23 (C1)When He got into the boat, His disciples followed Him.24 And behold, a (F1)violent storm developed on the sea, so that the boat was being covered by the waves; but Jesus Himself was asleep.25 And they came to Him and woke Him, saying, "(C1)Save us, Lord; we are perishing!"26 He (*)said to them, "Why are you (F1)afraid, (C1)you men of little faith?" Then He got up and rebuked the winds and the sea, and (F2)it became perfectly calm.27 The men were amazed, and said, "What kind of a man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey Him?"
Jesus Sends Demons into Pigs
28 (C1)And when He came to the other side into the country of the Gadarenes, two (C2)demon-possessed men confronted Him as they were coming out of the tombs. They were so extremely violent that no one could pass by that way.29 And they cried out, saying, "(F1)(C1)What business do You have with us, Son of God? Have You come here to torment us before (F2)the time?"30 Now there was a herd of many pigs feeding at a distance from them.31 And the demons begged Him, saying, "If You are going to cast us out, send us into the herd of pigs."32 And He said to them, "Go!" And they came out and went into the pigs; and behold, the whole herd rushed down the steep bank into the sea and (F1)drowned in the waters.33 And the herdsmen ran away, and went to the city and reported everything, (F1)including what had happened to the (C1)demon-possessed men.34 And behold, the whole city came out to meet Jesus; and when they saw Him, (C1)they pleaded with Him to leave their region.
