Leviticus 15-16

Chapter 15

Cleansing Unhealthiness

1 The LORD also spoke to Moses and to Aaron, saying,2 "Speak to the sons of Israel, and say to them, '(C1)When any man has a discharge from his (F1)body, (F2)his discharge is unclean.3 'This, moreover, shall be his uncleanness in his discharge: it is his uncleanness whether his body allows its discharge to flow or whether his body obstructs its discharge.4 'Every bed on which the man with the discharge lies becomes unclean, and everything on which he sits becomes unclean.5 'Anyone, moreover, who touches his bed shall wash his clothes and bathe in water and be unclean until evening;6 and whoever sits on the thing on which the man with the discharge has been sitting, shall wash his clothes and bathe in water and be unclean until evening.7 'Also whoever touches the (F1)man with the discharge shall wash his clothes and bathe in water and be unclean until evening.8 'Or if the man with the discharge spits on one who is clean, he too shall wash his clothes and bathe in water and be unclean until evening.9 'Every saddle on which the man with the discharge rides becomes unclean.10 'Whoever then touches any of the things which were under him shall be unclean until evening, and the one who carries them shall wash his clothes and bathe in water and be unclean until evening.11 'Likewise, whomever the man with the discharge touches without having rinsed his hands in water shall wash his clothes and bathe in water and be unclean until evening.12 'However, an (C1)earthenware vessel which the man with the discharge touches shall be broken, and every wooden vessel shall be rinsed in water.

13 'Now when the man with the discharge becomes cleansed from his discharge, then he (C1)shall count off for himself seven days for his cleansing; he shall then wash his clothes and bathe his body in (F1)running water and will become clean.14 'Then on the eighth day he shall take for himself (C1)two turtledoves or two young doves, and come before the LORD to the doorway of the tent of meeting and give them to the priest;15 and the priest shall offer them, (C1)one as a (F1)sin offering and the other as a burnt offering. So (C2)the priest shall make atonement on his behalf before the LORD because of his discharge.

16 '(C1)Now if a (F1)man has a seminal emission, he shall bathe all his body in water and be unclean until evening.17 'As for any garment or any leather on which there is a seminal emission, it shall be washed with water and be unclean until evening.18 'If a man sleeps with a woman so that there is a seminal emission, they shall both bathe in water and be (C1)unclean until evening.

19 '(C1)When a woman has a discharge, if her discharge in her body is blood, she shall continue in her menstrual impurity for seven days; and whoever touches her shall be unclean until evening.20 'Everything also on which she lies during her menstrual impurity shall be unclean, and everything on which she sits shall be unclean.21 'Anyone who touches her bed shall wash his clothes and bathe in water and be unclean until evening.22 'Whoever touches any object on which she sits shall wash his clothes and bathe in water and be unclean until evening.23 'Whether it be on the bed or on the thing on which she is sitting, when he touches it, he shall be unclean until evening.24 '(C1)If a man actually sleeps with her so that her menstrual impurity is on him, he shall be unclean seven days, and every bed on which he lies shall be unclean.

25 '(C1)Now if a woman has a discharge of her blood for many days, not at the period of her menstrual impurity, or if she has a discharge beyond (F1)that period, for all the days of her impure discharge she shall continue as though (F2)in her menstrual impurity; she is unclean.26 'Any bed on which she lies all the days of her discharge shall be to her like (F1)her bed at menstruation; and every object on which she sits shall be unclean, like (F2)her uncleanness at that time.27 'Likewise, whoever touches them shall be unclean, and shall wash his clothes and bathe in water and be unclean until evening.28 'When she becomes clean from her discharge, she shall count off for herself seven days; and afterward she will be clean.29 'Then on the eighth day she shall take for herself two turtledoves or two young doves, and bring them to the priest, to the doorway of the tent of meeting.30 'And the priest shall offer the (C1)one as a (F1)sin offering, and the other as a burnt offering. So the priest shall make atonement on her behalf before the LORD because of her impure discharge.'

31 "And so you shall keep the sons of Israel separated from their uncleanness, so that they will not die in their uncleanness by their (C1)defiling My (F1)tabernacle that is among them."32 This is the law for the one with a discharge, and for the man (F1)who has a seminal emission so that he is unclean by it,33 and for the woman who is ill because of menstrual impurity, and for the one who has a discharge, whether a male or a female, or a man who sleeps with an unclean woman.

Chapter 16

Law of Atonement

1 Now the LORD spoke to Moses after (C1)the death of the two sons of Aaron, when they had approached the presence of the LORD and died.

2 The LORD said to Moses: "Tell your brother Aaron that he shall not enter (C1)at (F1)any time into the Holy Place inside the veil, before the (F2)atoning cover which is on the ark, or he will die; for (C2)I will appear in the cloud over the (F2)atoning cover.3 "Aaron shall enter the Holy Place with this: with a (F1)bull as a (F2)(C1)sin offering and a ram as a burnt offering.4 "He shall put on the (C1)holy linen tunic, and the linen undergarments shall be next to his (F1)body, and he shall be wrapped about the waist with the linen sash and the linen turban wound around his forehead (these are holy garments). He shall (C2)bathe his (F1)body in water and put them on.5 "And he shall take from the congregation of the sons of Israel (C1)two male goats as a (F1)sin offering, and one ram as a burnt offering.6 "Then (C1)Aaron shall offer the bull as the (F1)sin offering, which is for himself, so that he may make atonement for himself and for his household.7 "He shall then take the two goats and present them before the LORD at the doorway of the tent of meeting.8 "Aaron shall cast lots for the two goats, one lot for the LORD and the other lot for (F1)the (F2)scapegoat.9 "Then Aaron shall offer the goat on which the lot for the LORD fell, and make it a (F1)sin offering.10 "But the goat on which the lot for (F1)the (F2)scapegoat fell shall be presented alive before the LORD, to make (C1)atonement upon it, to send it into the wilderness (F3)as the (F2)scapegoat.

11 "Then Aaron shall offer the bull of the (F1)sin offering (C1)which is for himself and make atonement for himself and (C2)for his household, and he shall slaughter the bull of the (F1)sin offering which is for himself.12 "He shall take a (C1)firepan full of coals of fire from upon the altar before the LORD and (F1)two handfuls of finely ground (C2)sweet incense, and bring it inside the veil.13 "He shall put the incense on the fire before the LORD, so that the cloud of incense may cover the (C1)atoning cover that is on the ark of the testimony, (C2)otherwise he will die.14 "Moreover, (C1)he shall take some of the blood of the bull and sprinkle it (C2)with his finger on the atoning cover on the east side; also in front of the atoning cover he shall sprinkle some of the blood with his finger seven times.

15 "Then he shall slaughter the goat of the sin offering, (C1)which is for the people, and bring its blood inside the veil and do with its blood as he did with the blood of the bull, and sprinkle it on the atoning cover and in front of the atoning cover.16 "(C1)He shall make atonement for the Holy Place, because of the impurities of the sons of Israel and because of their unlawful acts regarding all their sins; and he shall do so for the tent of meeting which remains with them in the midst of their impurities.17 "When he goes in to make atonement in the Holy Place, no one shall be in the tent of meeting until he comes out, so that he may make atonement for himself and for his household, and for all the assembly of Israel.18 "Then he shall go out to the altar that is before the LORD and make atonement for it; he shall take some of the blood from the bull and some of the blood from the goat, and (C1)put it on the horns of the altar on all sides.19 "(C1)With his finger he shall sprinkle some of the blood on it seven times and cleanse it, and consecrate it from the impurities of the sons of Israel.

20 "When he finishes atoning for the Holy Place and the tent of meeting and the altar, he shall offer the live goat.21 "Then Aaron shall lay both of his hands on the head of the live goat, and (C1)confess over it all the wrongdoings of the sons of Israel and all their unlawful acts regarding all their sins; and he shall place them on the head of the goat and send it away into the wilderness by the hand of a man who stands ready.22 "Then the goat shall carry on itself all their wrongdoings to an (F1)isolated territory; he shall release the goat in the wilderness.

23 "Then Aaron shall come into the tent of meeting and take off (C1)the linen garments which he put on when he went into the Holy Place, and shall leave them there.24 "And (C1)he shall bathe his (F1)body with water in a holy place and put on (C2)his clothes, and come out and offer his burnt offering and the burnt offering of the people, and make atonement for himself and for the people.25 "Then he shall offer up in smoke the fat of the sin offering on the altar.26 "The one who released the goat (F1)as the (F2)scapegoat (C1)shall wash his clothes and bathe his (F3)body with water; then afterward he shall come into the camp.27 "But the bull of the (F1)sin offering and the goat of the (F1)sin offering, (C1)whose blood was brought in to make atonement in the Holy Place, shall be taken outside the camp, and they shall burn their hides, their flesh, and their refuse in the fire.28 "Then the (C1)one who burns them shall wash his clothes and bathe his body with water; and afterward he shall come into the camp.

An Annual Atonement

29 "This shall be a permanent statute for you: (C1)in the seventh month, on the tenth day of the month, you shall humble (F1)yourselves and not (C2)do any work, whether the native, or the stranger who resides among you;30 for it is on this day that (F1)atonement shall be made for you to (C1)cleanse you; you will be clean from all your sins before the LORD.31 "It is to be a Sabbath of solemn rest for you, so that you may (C1)humble (F1)yourselves; it is a permanent statute.32 "So the priest who is anointed and (F1)ordained to serve as priest in his father's place shall make atonement: he shall put on (C1)the linen garments, the holy garments,33 and make atonement for the holy sanctuary, and he shall make atonement for the tent of meeting and for the altar. He shall also make atonement for (C1)the priests and for all the people of the assembly.34 "Now you shall have this as a (C1)permanent statute, to (C2)make atonement for the sons of Israel for all their sins once every year." And just as the LORD had commanded Moses, so he did.

Proverbs 27

Chapter 27

Warnings and Instructions

1 (C1)Do not boast about tomorrow,
For you (C2)do not know what a day may bring.

2 Let (C1)another praise you, and not your own mouth;
A stranger, and not your own lips.

3 A stone is heavy and the sand weighty,
But the provocation of a fool is heavier than both of them.

4 Wrath is fierce and anger is a flood,
But (C1)who can stand before jealousy?

5 Better is (C1)open rebuke
Than love that is concealed.

6 Faithful are the (C1)wounds of a friend,
But (F1)deceitful are the (C2)kisses of an enemy.

7 A satisfied (F1)person (F2)despises honey,
But to a hungry (F1)person any bitter thing is sweet.

8 Like a (C1)bird that wanders from its nest,
So is a person who (C2)wanders from his (F1)home.

9 (C1)Oil and perfume make the heart glad,
And a (F1)person's advice is sweet to his friend.

10 Do not abandon your (C1)friend or (C2)your father's friend,
And do not go to your brother's house on the day of your disaster;
Better is a neighbor who is near than a brother far away.

11 (C1)Be wise, my son, and make my heart glad,
So that I may (C2)reply to one who taunts me.

12 A prudent person sees evil and hides himself;
But the naive proceed, and pay the penalty.

13 (C1)Take his garment when he becomes a guarantor for a stranger;
And for a foreign woman seize a pledge from him.

14 (C1)One who blesses his friend with a loud voice early in the morning,
It will be considered a curse to him.

15 A (C1)constant dripping on a day of steady rain
And a contentious woman are alike;

16 He who would (F1)restrain her (F1)restrains the wind,
And (F2)grasps oil with his right hand.

17 As iron sharpens iron,
So one person sharpens another.

18 One who tends the (C1)fig tree will eat its fruit,
And one who (C2)cares for his master will be honored.

19 As in water a face reflects the face,
So the heart of a person reflects the person.

20 (F1)(C1)Sheol and (F2)Abaddon are (C2)never satisfied,
Nor are the (C3)eyes of a person ever satisfied.

21 The (C1)crucible is for silver and the furnace for gold,
And each (C2)is tested by the praise accorded him.

22 Though you (C1)pound the fool in a mortar with a pestle along with crushed grain,
His foolishness still will not leave him.

23 (C1)Know well the (F1)condition of your flocks,
And pay attention to your herds;

24 For riches are not forever,
Nor does a (C1)crown endure to all generations.

25 When the grass disappears, the new growth is seen,
And the herbs of the mountains are (C1)gathered in,

26 The lambs will be for your clothing,
And the goats will bring the price of a field,

27 And there will be enough goats' milk for your food,
For the food of your household,
And sustenance for your attendants.

Matthew 12:22-50

Chapter 12

22 (C1)Then a (C2)demon-possessed man who was blind and unable to speak was brought to (F1)Jesus, and He healed him so that the man who was unable to speak talked and (F2)could see.23 And all the crowds were amazed and were saying, "This man cannot be the (C1)Son of David, can he?"24 But when the Pharisees heard this, they said, "This man (C1)casts out demons only by (F1)Beelzebul the ruler of the demons."

25 (C1)And (C2)knowing their thoughts, Jesus said to them, "Every kingdom divided against itself is laid waste; and no city or house divided against itself will stand.26 "And if (C1)Satan is casting out Satan, he (F1)has become divided against himself; how then will his kingdom stand?27 "And if (C1)by (F1)Beelzebul I cast out the demons, (C2)by whom do your sons cast them out? Therefore, they will be your judges.28 "But (C1)if I cast out the demons by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God has come upon you.29 "Or, how can anyone enter the strong man's house and carry off his property, unless he first ties up the strong man? And then he will plunder his house.

The Unpardonable Sin

30 "(C1)The one who is not with Me is against Me; and the one who does not gather with Me scatters.

31 "(C1)Therefore I say to you, every sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven people, but blasphemy against the Spirit shall not be forgiven.32 "(C1)And whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man, it shall be forgiven him; but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it shall not be forgiven him, either in (C2)this age or in the age to come.

Words Reveal Character

33 "Either (F1)assume the tree to be good as well as its fruit good, or (F1)assume the tree to be bad as well as its fruit bad; for (C1)the tree is known by its fruit.34 "(C1)You (F1)offspring of vipers, how can you, being evil, express any good things? (C2)For the mouth speaks from that which fills the heart.35 "(C1)The good person brings out of his good treasure good things; and the evil person brings out of his evil treasure evil things.36 "But I tell you that for every (F1)careless word that people (F2)speak, they will give an account of it on the (C1)day of judgment.37 "For (F1)by your words you will be justified, and (F1)by your words you will be condemned."

The Desire for Signs

38 Then some of the scribes and Pharisees said to Him, "Teacher, (C1)we want to see a (F1)sign from You."39 But He answered and said to them, "(C1)An evil and adulterous generation craves a (F1)sign; and so no (F1)sign will be given to it except the (F1)sign of Jonah the prophet;40 for just as (C1)JONAH WAS IN THE STOMACH OF THE SEA MONSTER FOR THREE DAYS AND THREE NIGHTS, so will (C2)the Son of Man be in the heart of the earth for (C3)three days and three nights.41 "(C1)The men of Nineveh will stand up with this generation at the judgment, and will condemn it because (C2)they repented at the preaching of Jonah; and behold, something (C3)greater than Jonah is here.42 "(C1)The Queen of the South will rise up with this generation at the judgment and will condemn it, because she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and behold, something (C2)greater than Solomon is here.

43 "(C1)Now when the unclean spirit comes out of a person, it passes through waterless places seeking rest, and does not find it.44 "Then it says, 'I will return to my house from which I came'; and when it comes, it finds it unoccupied, swept, and put in order.45 "Then it goes and brings along with it seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they come in and live there; and (C1)the last condition of that person becomes worse than the first. That is the way it will also be with this evil generation."

Changed Relationships

46 (C1)While He was still speaking to the crowds, behold, His (C2)mother and (C3)brothers were standing outside, seeking to speak to Him.47 [(F1)Someone said to Him, "Look, Your mother and Your brothers are standing outside, seeking to speak to You."]48 But (F1)Jesus replied to the one who was telling Him and said, "Who is My mother, and who are My brothers?"49 And extending His hand toward His disciples, He said, "Behold: My mother and My brothers!50 "For whoever does the will of My Father who is in heaven, he is My brother, and sister, and mother."
