Numbers 7-8

Chapter 7

Offerings of the Leaders

1 Now on (C1)the day that Moses had finished setting up the tabernacle, he (C2)anointed it and consecrated it with all its furnishings, and the altar and all its utensils; he anointed them and consecrated them also.2 Then (C1)the leaders of Israel, the heads of their fathers' households, (C2)made an offering (they were the leaders of the tribes; they were the (F1)supervisors over the (F2)numbered men).3 When they brought their offering before the LORD, six (C1)covered carts and twelve oxen, a cart for every two of the leaders and an ox for each one, then they presented them in front of the tabernacle.4 Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,5 "Accept these things from them, that they may be (F1)used in the service of the tent of meeting, and you shall give them to the Levites, to each man according to his service."6 So Moses took the carts and the oxen and gave them to the Levites.7 Two carts and four oxen he gave to the sons of Gershon, according to (C1)their service,8 and four carts and eight oxen he gave to the sons of Merari, according to (C1)their service, (F1)under the direction of Ithamar the son of Aaron the priest.9 But he did not give any to the sons of Kohath, because theirs was (C1)the service of the holy objects, which they carried on the shoulder.

10 And the leaders offered the dedication offering (F1)for the altar (F2)when (C1)it was anointed, so the leaders offered their offering before the altar.11 Then the LORD said to Moses, "They shall present their offering, one leader each day, for the dedication of the altar."

(C1)This was the dedication offering for the altar after it was anointed.

89 Now when (C1)Moses entered the tent of meeting to speak with Him, he heard the voice speaking to him from above (C2)the (F1)atoning cover that was on the ark of the testimony, from (C3)between the two (F2)cherubim; so He spoke to him.

Chapter 8

The Seven Lamps

1 Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,2 "Speak to Aaron and say to him, 'When you (F1)mount the lamps, the seven lamps will (C1)provide light in the front of the lampstand.'"3 Therefore Aaron did so; he (F1)mounted its lamps at the front of the lampstand, just as the LORD had commanded Moses.4 (C1)Now this was the workmanship of the lampstand, hammered work of gold; from its base to its flower ornamentation it was hammered work; (C2)according to the (F1)pattern which the LORD had shown Moses, so he made the lampstand.

Cleansing the Levites

5 Again the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,6 "Take the Levites from among the sons of Israel and (C1)cleanse them.7 "This is what you shall do to them, for their cleansing: sprinkle (F1)purifying (C1)water on them, and have them (F2)(C2)use a razor over their whole (F3)body, and they shall (C3)wash their clothes and cleanse themselves.8 "Then have them take a (F1)bull with (C1)its grain offering, fine flour mixed with oil; and you shall take a second (F1)bull as a sin offering.9 "So (C1)you shall present the Levites in front of the tent of meeting. (C2)You shall also assemble the whole congregation of the sons of Israel,10 and present the Levites before the LORD; and the sons of Israel (C1)shall lay their hands on the Levites.11 "Aaron then shall (F1)present the Levites before the LORD as a (C1)wave offering from the sons of Israel, so that they may (F2)qualify to perform the service of the LORD.12 "Now (C1)the Levites shall lay their hands on the heads of the bulls; then you are to offer the one as a sin offering and the other as a burnt offering to the LORD, to make atonement for the Levites.13 "And you shall have the Levites stand before Aaron and his sons so as to present them as a wave offering to the LORD.

14 "So you shall single out the Levites from among the sons of Israel, and (C1)the Levites shall be Mine.15 "Then after that the Levites may go in to serve the tent of meeting. But you shall cleanse them and (C1)present them as a wave offering;16 for they are (C1)exclusively given to Me from among the sons of Israel. I have taken them for Myself (C2)instead of the firstborn of every womb, the firstborn of all the sons of Israel.17 "For (C1)every firstborn among the sons of Israel is Mine, among the people and among the animals; on the day that I fatally struck all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, I sanctified them for Myself.18 "But I have taken the Levites instead of every firstborn among the sons of Israel.19 "And (C1)I have given the Levites as (F1)a gift to Aaron and to his sons from among the sons of Israel, to perform the service of the sons of Israel at the tent of meeting and to make atonement on behalf of the sons of Israel, so that there will be no (C2)affliction among the sons of Israel due to (F2)their approaching the sanctuary."

20 So this is what Moses, Aaron, and all the congregation of the sons of Israel did to the Levites; according to everything that the LORD had commanded Moses regarding the Levites, so the sons of Israel did to them.21 (C1)The Levites, too, purified themselves from sin and washed their clothes; and Aaron presented them as a wave offering before the LORD. Aaron also made atonement for them to cleanse them.22 Then after that the Levites went in to perform their service in the tent of meeting before Aaron and his sons; just as the LORD had commanded Moses concerning the Levites, so they did to them.

Retirement for the Levites

23 Now the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,24 "This is what applies to the Levites: from (C1)twenty-five years old and upward (F1)they shall enter to perform service in the work of the tent of meeting.25 "But at the age of fifty years they shall (F1)retire from service in the work and not work anymore.26 "They may, however, (F1)assist their brothers in the tent of meeting, (C1)to fulfill an obligation, but they themselves shall do no work. In this way you shall deal with the Levites in their obligations."

Ecclesiastes 6

Chapter 6

The Futility of Life

1 There is an (C1)evil which I have seen under the sun, and it is widespread (F1)among mankind:2 a person to whom God has (C1)given riches, wealth, and honor, so that his soul (C2)lacks nothing of all that he desires, yet God has not given him the opportunity to (F1)enjoy these things, but a foreigner (F2)enjoys them. This is futility and a severe affliction.3 If a man fathers a hundred children and lives many years, however many (F1)they may be, but his soul is not satisfied with good things and he does not even have a proper (C1)burial, then I say, "Better (C2)the miscarriage than he,4 for a miscarriage comes in futility and goes into darkness; and its name is covered in darkness.5 "It has not even seen the sun nor does it know it; yet (F1)it is better off than that man.6 "Even if the man lives a thousand years twice, but does not see good things—(C1)do not all go to one and the same place?"

7 (C1)All a person's labor is for his mouth, and yet (F1)his appetite is not (F2)satisfied.8 For (C1)what advantage does the wise person have over the fool? What does the poor person have, knowing how to walk before the living?9 What the eyes (C1)see is better than what the soul (F1)desires. This too is (C2)futility and striving after wind.

10 Whatever (C1)exists has already been named, and it is known what man is; for he (C2)cannot dispute with the (F1)one who is mightier than he is.11 For there are many words which increase futility. What then is the advantage to a person?12 For who knows what is good for a person during his lifetime, during the few (F1)years of his futile life? He will (F2)spend them like a shadow. For who can tell a person (C1)what will happen after him under the sun?

Matthew 18:21-35

Chapter 18

21 Then Peter came up and said to Him, "Lord, (C1)how many times shall my brother sin against me and I still forgive him? Up to (C2)seven times?"22 Jesus (*)said to him, "I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to (F1)(C1)seventy-seven times.

23 "For this reason (C1)the kingdom of heaven (F1)is like a king who wanted to (C2)settle accounts with his slaves.24 "And when he had begun to settle them, one who owed him (F1)ten thousand talents was brought to him.25 "But since he (F1)(C1)did not have the means to repay, his master commanded that he (C2)be sold, along with his wife and children and all that he had, and repayment be made.26 "So the slave fell to the ground and (C1)prostrated himself before him, saying, 'Have patience with me and I will repay you everything.'27 "And the master of that slave felt compassion, and he released him and (C1)forgave him the (F1)debt.28 "But that slave went out and found one of his fellow slaves who owed him a hundred (F1)denarii; and he seized him and began to choke him, saying, 'Pay back what you owe!'29 "So his fellow slave fell to the ground and began to plead with him, saying, 'Have patience with me and I will repay you.'30 "But he was unwilling, (F1)and went and threw him in prison until he would pay back what was owed.31 "So when his fellow slaves saw what had happened, they were deeply grieved and came and reported to their master all that had happened.32 "Then summoning him, his master (*)said to him, 'You wicked slave, I forgave you all that debt because you pleaded with me.33 '(C1)Should you not also have had mercy on your fellow slave, in the same way that I had mercy on you?'34 "And his master, moved with anger, handed him over to the (F1)torturers until he would repay all that was owed him.35 "(C1)My heavenly Father will also do the same to you, if each of you does not forgive his brother from your (F1)heart."
