Song of Solomon 6,7,8
Mutual Delight in Each Other
The Chorus
1 "(C1)Where has your beloved gone,
O (C2)most beautiful among women?
Where has your beloved turned,
That we may seek him with you?"
The Bride
2 "My beloved has gone down to his (C1)garden,
To the (C2)beds of balsam,
To (C3)pasture his flock in the gardens
And gather (C4)lilies.
3 "(C1)I am my beloved's and my beloved is mine,
He who (C2)pastures his flock among the lilies."
The Groom
4 "(C1)You are as beautiful as (C2)Tirzah, my darling,
As (C3)lovely as (C4)Jerusalem,
As (C5)awesome as an army with banners.
5 "Turn your eyes away from me,
For they have confused me;
(C1)Your hair is like a flock of goats
That have descended from Gilead.
6 "(C1)Your teeth are like a flock of ewes
That have come up from their watering place,
All of which bear twins,
And not one among them has lost her young.
7 "(C1)Your temples are like a slice of a pomegranate
Behind your veil.
8 "There are sixty (C1)queens and eighty concubines,
And (F1)(C2)young women without number;
9 But (C1)my dove, my perfect one, is (F1)unique:
She is her mother's (F1)only daughter;
She is the pure child of the one who gave birth to her.
The (F2)(C2)young women saw her and called her (F3)blessed,
The (C3)queens and the concubines also, and they praised her, saying,
10 'Who is this who looks down like the dawn,
As beautiful as the full (C1)moon,
As pure (C2)as the sun,
As (C3)awesome as an army with banners?'
11 "I went down to the orchard of nut trees
To see the plants of the valley,
To see whether (C1)the vine had grown
Or the (C2)pomegranates had bloomed.
12 "(F1)Before I was aware, my soul set me
Over the chariots of (F2)my noble people."
The Chorus
13 "(F1)Come back, come back, O Shulammite; The Groom "Why should you look at the Shulammite,
Come back, come back, so that we may look at you!"
As at the (C1)dance of (F2)(C2)the two armies?
Admiration by the Groom
1 "(F1)How beautiful are your feet in sandals,
(F2)(C1)Prince's daughter!
The curves of your hips are like jewels,
The work of the hands of an artist.
2 "Your navel is like a round goblet
That never lacks mixed wine;
Your belly is like a heap of wheat,
(F1)Surrounded with lilies.
3 "Your (C1)two breasts are like two fawns,
Twins of a gazelle.
4 "Your (C1)neck is like a tower of ivory,
Your eyes like the pools in (C2)Heshbon
By the gate of Bath-rabbim;
Your nose is like the tower of Lebanon,
Which looks toward Damascus.
5 "Your head (F1)crowns you like (C1)Carmel,
And the flowing hair of your head is like purple threads;
The king is captivated by your tresses.
6 "How (C1)beautiful and how delightful you are,
(F1)My love, with all your delights!
7 "(F1)Your stature is like a palm tree,
And your breasts are like its clusters.
8 "I said, 'I will climb the palm tree,
I will grasp its fruit stalks.'
Oh, may your breasts be like clusters of the vine,
And the fragrance of your (F1)breath like (C1)apples,
9 And your (F1)(C1)mouth like the best wine!" The Bride "It (C2)goes down smoothly for my beloved,
Flowing gently through the lips of those who are asleep.
The Union of Love
10 "(C1)I am my beloved's,
And his (C2)desire is for me.
11 "Come, my beloved, let's go out to the (F1)country,
Let's spend the night in the villages.
12 "Let's rise early and go to the vineyards;
Let's (C1)see whether the vine has grown
And its buds have opened,
And whether the pomegranates have bloomed.
There I will give you my love.
13 "The (C1)mandrakes have given forth fragrance;
And over our doors are all (C2)delicious fruits,
New as well as old,
Which I have saved for you, my beloved.
The Lovers Speak
1 "Oh that you were like a brother to me
Who nursed at my mother's breasts.
If I found you outdoors, I would kiss you;
No one would despise me, either.
2 "I would lead you and (C1)bring you
Into the house of my mother, who used to instruct me;
I would give you spiced wine to drink from the juice of my pomegranates.
3 "Let (C1)his left hand be under my head,
And his right hand embrace me."
The Groom
4 "(C1)Swear to me, you daughters of Jerusalem:
(F1)Do not disturb or awaken my love
Until she pleases."
The Chorus
5 "(C1)Who is this coming up from the wilderness, The Bride "Beneath the (C2)apple tree I awakened you;
Leaning on her beloved?"
There your mother went into labor with you,
There she was in labor and gave birth to you.
6 "Put me like a seal over your heart,
Like a (C1)seal on your arm.
For love is as strong as death,
(F1)(C2)Jealousy is as severe as Sheol;
Its flames are flames of fire,
(F2)The flame of the LORD.
7 "Many waters cannot quench love,
Nor will rivers flood over it;
(C1)If a man were to give all the riches of his house for love,
It would be utterly despised."
The Chorus
8 "We have a little sister,
And she (C1)has no breasts;
What shall we do for our sister
On the day when she is spoken for?
9 "If she is a wall,
We will build on her a battlement of silver;
But if she is a door,
We will barricade her with (C1)planks of cedar."
The Bride
10 "I was a wall, and (C1)my breasts were like towers;
Then I became in his eyes as one who finds peace.
11 "Solomon had a (C1)vineyard at Baal-hamon;
He (C2)entrusted the vineyard to (C3)caretakers.
Each one was to bring a (C4)thousand shekels of silver for its (C5)fruit.
12 "My very own vineyard is (F1)at my disposal;
The thousand shekels are for you, Solomon,
And two hundred are for those who take care of its fruit."
The Groom
13 "You who sit in the gardens:
My (C1)companions are listening for your voice—
(C2)Let me hear it!"
The Bride
14 "(F1)Hurry, my beloved,
And be (C1)like a gazelle or a young (F2)stag
On the (C2)mountains of balsam trees!"
Acts 7:22-43
Chapter 7
22 "Moses was educated in all (C1)the wisdom of the Egyptians, and he was proficient in (F1)speaking and action.23 "But when he was approaching the age of forty, (C1)it entered his (F1)mind to visit his countrymen, the sons of Israel.24 "And when he saw one of them being treated unjustly, he defended and took vengeance for the oppressed man by fatally striking the Egyptian.25 "And he thought that his brothers understood that God was granting them (F1)deliverance (F2)through him; but they did not understand.26 "(C1)And on the following day he appeared to them as they were fighting each other, and he tried to reconcile them to peace, by saying, 'Men, you are brothers, why are you injuring each other?'27 "But the one who was injuring his neighbor pushed him away, saying, '(C1)WHO MADE YOU A RULER AND JUDGE OVER US?28 '(C1)YOU DO NOT INTEND TO KILL ME AS YOU KILLED THE EGYPTIAN YESTERDAY, DO YOU?'29 "At this remark, (C1)MOSES FLED AND BECAME A STRANGER IN THE LAND OF (F1)MIDIAN, where he (C2)fathered two sons.
30 "After forty years had passed, (C1)an angel appeared to him in the wilderness of Mount Sinai, in the flame of a burning thorn bush.31 "When Moses saw it, he was astonished at the sight; and as he approached to look more closely, the voice of the Lord came:32 '(C1)I AM THE GOD OF YOUR FATHERS, THE GOD OF ABRAHAM, AND ISAAC, AND JACOB.' Moses shook with fear and did not dare to look closely.33 "(C1)But the LORD said to him, '(F1)(C2)REMOVE YOUR SANDALS FROM YOUR FEET, FOR THE PLACE ON WHICH YOU ARE STANDING IS HOLY GROUND.34 '(C1)I HAVE CERTAINLY SEEN THE OPPRESSION OF MY PEOPLE WHO ARE IN EGYPT, AND HAVE HEARD THEIR GROANING, AND I HAVE COME DOWN TO RESCUE THEM; AND (C2)NOW COME, I WILL SEND YOU TO EGYPT.'
35 "This Moses whom they (C1)disowned, saying, 'WHO MADE YOU A RULER AND A JUDGE?' is the one whom God (F1)sent to be both a ruler and a deliverer with the (F2)help of the angel who appeared to him in the thorn bush.36 "(C1)This man led them out, performing (C2)wonders and (F1)signs in the land of Egypt and in the Red Sea, and in the (C3)wilderness for forty years.37 "This is the Moses who said to the sons of Israel, '(C1)GOD WILL RAISE UP FOR YOU A PROPHET (F1)LIKE ME FROM YOUR COUNTRYMEN.'38 "This is the one who was in (C1)the (F1)assembly in the wilderness together with (C2)the angel who spoke to him at length on Mount Sinai, and who was with our fathers; and he received (C3)living (C4)words to pass on to you.39 "Our fathers were unwilling to be obedient to him; on the contrary they (C1)rejected him and turned back to Egypt in their hearts,40 (C1)saying to Aaron, 'MAKE US (F1)A GOD WHO WILL GO BEFORE US; FOR THIS MOSES WHO LED US OUT OF THE LAND OF EGYPT—WE DO NOT KNOW WHAT HAPPENED TO HIM.'41 "(F1)At that time (C1)they made a (F2)calf and brought a sacrifice to the idol, and were rejoicing in (C2)the works of their hands.42 "But God (C1)turned away and gave them over to (F1)serve the heavenly (F2)lights; as it is written in the book of the prophets: '(C2)YOU DID NOT OFFER ME VICTIMS AND SACRIFICES (C3)FOR FORTY YEARS IN THE WILDERNESS, DID YOU, HOUSE OF ISRAEL?43 '(C1)YOU ALSO TOOK ALONG THE TABERNACLE OF MOLOCH AND THE STAR OF YOUR GOD (F1)ROMPHA, THE IMAGES WHICH YOU MADE TO WORSHIP. I ALSO WILL DEPORT YOU BEYOND BABYLON.'<
