Chapter 15
Abijam Reigns over Judah
1 (C1)Now in the eighteenth year of King Jeroboam, the son of Nebat, Abijam became king over Judah.2 He reigned for three years in Jerusalem; and his mother's name was (F1)(C1)Maacah the daughter of (F2)(C2)Abishalom.3 He walked in all the sins of his father which he had committed before him; and (C1)his heart was not (F1)wholly devoted to the LORD his God, like the heart of his father David.4 But for David's sake the LORD his God gave him a (C1)lamp in Jerusalem, to raise up his son after him and to establish Jerusalem,5 (C1)because David did what was right in the sight of the LORD, and did not deviate from anything that He commanded him all the days of his life, (C2)except in the case of Uriah the Hittite.6 (C1)And there was war between Rehoboam and Jeroboam all the days of his life.
7 Now as for (C1)the rest of the acts of Abijam and all that he did, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah? (C2)And there was war between Abijam and Jeroboam.
Asa Succeeds Abijam
8 (C1)And Abijam (F1)lay down with his fathers, and they buried him in the city of David; and his son Asa became king in his place.9 So in the twentieth year of Jeroboam the king of Israel, Asa began to reign as king of Judah.10 He reigned for forty-one years in Jerusalem; and (C1)his mother's name was Maacah the daughter of Abishalom.11 Now (C1)Asa did what was right in the sight of the LORD, like his father David.12 (C1)He also removed the male cult prostitutes from the land and (C2)removed all the idols which his fathers had made.13 And even his mother Maacah, (C1)he also removed her from the position of queen mother, because she had made an abominable image (F1)as an Asherah; and Asa cut down her abominable image and (C2)burned it at the brook Kidron.14 (C1)But the high places (F1)were not eliminated; nevertheless (C2)Asa's heart was (F2)wholly devoted to the LORD all his days.15 And (C1)he brought into the house of the LORD the (F1)holy gifts of his father and his own (F1)holy gifts: silver, gold, and valuable utensils.
16 (C1)Now there was war between Asa and Baasha king of Israel all their days.17 (C1)Baasha king of Israel marched against Judah and (F1)(C2)fortified Ramah (C3)in order to prevent anyone from going out or coming in to Asa king of Judah.18 Then (C1)Asa took all the silver and the gold that was left in the treasuries of the house of the LORD and the treasuries of the king's house, and handed it over to his servants. And (C2)King Asa sent them to Ben-hadad the son of Tabrimmon, the son of Hezion, king of Aram, who lived in (C3)Damascus, saying,19 "Let's make a (C1)treaty between (F1)you and me, as there was between my father and your father. Behold, I have sent you a gift of silver and gold; go, break your treaty with Baasha king of Israel so that he will withdraw from me."20 So Ben-hadad listened to King Asa and sent the commanders of his armies against the cities of Israel, and (F1)conquered (C1)Ijon, (C2)Dan, (C3)Abel-beth-maacah, and all (C4)Chinneroth, besides all the land of Naphtali.21 When Baasha heard about it, (C1)he stopped (F1)fortifying Ramah and remained in (C2)Tirzah.22 Then King Asa made a proclamation to all Judah—no one was exempt—and they carried away the stones of Ramah and its timber with which Baasha had built fortifications. And King Asa built with them (C1)Geba of Benjamin and Mizpah.
Jehoshaphat Succeeds Asa
23 (C1)Now as for the rest of all the acts of Asa and all his might, and all that he did and the cities which he built, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah? But in the time of his old age he was diseased in his feet.24 And Asa (F1)lay down with his fathers and was buried with his fathers in the city of his father David; and his son (C1)Jehoshaphat reigned in his place.
Nadab and Then Baasha Rule over Israel
25 Now (C1)Nadab the son of Jeroboam became king over Israel in the second year of Asa king of Judah, and he reigned over Israel for two years.26 He did evil in the sight of the LORD, and (C1)walked in the way of his father and (C2)in his sin into which he misled Israel.27 Then (C1)Baasha the son of Ahijah of the house of Issachar conspired against him, and Baasha struck and killed him at (C2)Gibbethon, which belonged to the Philistines, while Nadab and all Israel were laying siege to Gibbethon.
28 So Baasha killed him in the third year of Asa king of Judah, and reigned in his place.29 And as soon as he was king, he struck and killed all the household of Jeroboam. He did not leave Jeroboam any (F1)persons alive, but kept killing until he had eliminated them, (C1)in accordance with the word of the LORD which He spoke by His servant Ahijah the Shilonite,30 and because of the sins of Jeroboam which he (F1)committed, and into (C1)which he misled Israel, because of his provocation with which he provoked the LORD God of Israel to anger.
31 (C1)Now as for the rest of the acts of Nadab and all that he did, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel?

Chapter 2
12 "Yet even now," declares the LORD,
"(C1)Return to Me with all your heart,
And with (C2)fasting, weeping, and mourning;
13 And (C1)tear your heart and not merely (C2)your garments."
Now return to the LORD your God,
For He is (C3)gracious and compassionate,
Slow to anger, abounding in mercy
And (C4)relenting of catastrophe.
14 Who knows, (C1)He might turn and relent,
And leave a (C2)blessing behind Him,
Resulting in (C3)a grain offering and a drink offering
For the LORD your God.
15 (C1)Blow a trumpet in Zion,
(C2)Consecrate a fast, proclaim a solemn assembly,
16 Gather the people, (C1)sanctify the congregation,
Assemble the elders,
Gather the children and the nursing infants.
Have the (C2)groom come out of his room
And the bride out of her bridal chamber.
17 Let the priests, the LORD'S ministers,
Weep (C1)between the porch and the altar,
And let them say, "(F1)(C2)Spare Your people, LORD,
And do not make Your inheritance a (C3)disgrace,
With the nations jeering at them.
Why should those among the peoples say,
'(C4)Where is their God?'"
Deliverance Promised
18 Then the LORD (F1)will be (C1)zealous for His land,
And (F2)will have (C2)compassion for His people.
19 The LORD (F1)will answer and say to His people,
"Behold, I am going to (C1)send you grain, new wine, and oil,
And you will be satisfied in full with (F2)them;
And I will (C2)never again make you a disgrace among the nations.
20 "But I will remove the (C1)northern army far from you,
And I will drive it into a dry and desolate land,
Its advance guard into the (C2)eastern sea,
And its rear guard into the (C3)western sea.
And its (C4)stench will ascend and its odor of decay will come up,
Because it has done great things."
21 (C1)Do not fear, land; shout for joy and rejoice,
For the LORD has done (C2)great things.
22 Do not fear, animals of the field,
For the (C1)pastures of the wilderness have turned green,
For the tree has produced its fruit,
The fig tree and the vine have yielded (F1)in full.
23 So shout for joy, you (C1)sons of Zion,
And (C2)rejoice in the LORD your God;
For He has (C3)given you (F1)the early rain for your vindication.
And He has brought down for you the rain,
The (F2)early and (F3)(C4)latter rain (F4)as before.
24 The threshing floors will be full of grain,
And the vats will (C1)overflow with the new wine and oil.
25 "Then I will compensate you for the years
That the (F1)swarming (C1)locust has eaten,
The creeping locust, the stripping locust, and the gnawing locust—
My great army which I sent among you.
26 "You will have plenty to (C1)eat and be satisfied,
And you will (C2)praise the name of the LORD your God,
Who has (C3)dealt wondrously with you;
Then My people will (C4)never be put to shame.
27 "So you will (C1)know that I am in the midst of Israel,
And that I am the LORD your God
And there is (C2)no other;
And My people will never be (C3)put to shame.
The Promise of the Spirit
28 "(F1)(C1)It will come about after this
That I will (C2)pour out My Spirit on all (F2)(C3)mankind;
And your sons and your daughters will prophesy,
Your old men will have dreams,
Your young men will see visions.
29 "And even on the (C1)male and female servants
I will pour out My Spirit in those days.
The Day of the LORD
30 "I will (F1)(C1)display wonders in the sky and on the earth,
Blood, fire, and columns of smoke.
31 "The (C1)sun will be turned into darkness,
And the moon into blood,
Before the (C2)great and awesome day of the LORD comes.
32 "And it will come about that (C1)everyone who calls on the name of the LORD
Will (F1)be saved;
For (C2)on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem
There will be those who (C3)escape,
Just as the LORD has said,
Even among the (C4)survivors whom the LORD calls.
1 Corinthians 2
Chapter 2
Paul's Reliance upon the Spirit
1 And when I came to you, brothers and sisters, I (C1)did not come as someone superior in (F1)speaking ability or (F2)wisdom, as I proclaimed to you (C2)the (F3)testimony of God.2 For I determined to know nothing among you except (C1)Jesus Christ, and Him crucified.3 I also was with you in (C1)weakness and (C2)fear, and in great trembling,4 and my (F1)message and my preaching were (C1)not in persuasive words of (F2)wisdom, but in demonstration of (C2)the Spirit and of power,5 so that your faith would not (F1)rest on the (F2)wisdom of mankind, but on (C1)the power of God.
6 Yet we do speak wisdom among those who are (C1)mature; a wisdom, however, not of (C2)this age nor of the rulers of (C2)this age, who are (C3)passing away;7 but we speak God's wisdom in a (C1)mystery, the hidden wisdom which God (C2)predestined before the (C3)ages to our glory;8 the wisdom (C1)which none of the rulers of (C2)this age has understood; for if they had understood it, they would not have crucified (C3)the Lord of glory;9 but just as it is written: "(C1)THINGS WHICH EYE HAS NOT SEEN AND EAR HAS NOT HEARD,
AND WHICH HAVE NOT ENTERED THE HUMAN HEART,
ALL THAT GOD HAS PREPARED FOR THOSE WHO LOVE HIM."
14 But (F1)a (C1)natural person (C2)does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are (C3)foolishness to him; and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned.15 But the one who is (C1)spiritual discerns all things, yet he himself is (F1)discerned by no one.16 For (C1)WHO HAS KNOWN THE MIND OF THE LORD, THAT HE WILL INSTRUCT HIM? But (C2)we have the mind of Christ.
