1 Kings 15:33-16:34

Chapter 15

33 In the third year of Asa king of Judah, Baasha the son of Ahijah became king over all Israel at Tirzah, and he reigned for twenty-four years.34 And he did evil in the sight of the LORD, and (C1)walked in the way of Jeroboam and in his sin into which he misled Israel.

Chapter 16

Prophecy against Baasha

1 Now the word of the LORD came to (C1)Jehu the son of (C2)Hanani against Baasha, saying,2 "Since I (C1)exalted you from the dust and made you leader over My people Israel, and (C2)you have walked in the way of Jeroboam and have misled My people Israel into sin, provoking Me to anger with their sins,3 behold, (C1)I am going to (F1)burn (C2)Baasha and his house, and (C3)I will make your house like the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat.4 "(C1)Anyone belonging to Baasha who dies in the city, the dogs will eat; and anyone belonging to him who dies in the field, the birds of the sky will eat."

5 (C1)Now as for the rest of the acts of Baasha and what he did and his might, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel?

The Israelite Kings

6 And Baasha (F1)lay down with his fathers and was buried in (C1)Tirzah, and his son Elah became king in his place.7 Moreover, the word of the LORD through (C1)the prophet Jehu the son of Hanani came against Baasha and his household, both because of all the evil that he did in the sight of the LORD, provoking Him to anger with (C2)the work of his hands, by being like the house of Jeroboam, and because (C3)he struck (F1)it.

8 In the twenty-sixth year of Asa king of Judah, Elah the son of Baasha became king over Israel at Tirzah, and reigned for two years.9 And his servant (C1)Zimri, commander of half his chariots, conspired against him. Now (F1)Elah was in Tirzah drinking himself drunk in the house of Arza, (C2)who was in charge of the household in Tirzah.10 Then Zimri came in and struck him and put him to death in the twenty-seventh year of Asa king of Judah, and he became king in his place.11 And when he became king, as soon as he sat on his throne, (C1)he (F1)killed all the household of Baasha; he did not leave (F2)a single male alive, either of his (F3)relatives or of his friends.

12 So Zimri eliminated all the household of Baasha, (C1)in accordance with the word of the LORD which He spoke against Baasha through (C2)Jehu the prophet,13 for all the sins of Baasha and the sins of his son Elah, which they (F1)committed and into which they misled Israel, (C1)provoking the LORD God of Israel to anger with their (F2)idols.14 (C1)Now as for the rest of the acts of Elah and all that he did, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel?

15 In the twenty-seventh year of Asa king of Judah, Zimri reigned for seven days in Tirzah. Now the people were camped against (C1)Gibbethon, which belonged to the Philistines.16 And the people who were camped heard (F1)it being said, "Zimri has conspired and has also struck and killed the king!" Therefore all Israel made Omri, the commander of the army, king over Israel that day in the camp.17 Then Omri and all Israel with him went up from Gibbethon and besieged Tirzah.18 When Zimri saw that the city was taken, he went into the citadel of the king's house and burned the king's house over himself with fire, and (C1)died,19 because of his sins which he (F1)committed, doing evil in the sight of the LORD, (C1)walking in the way of Jeroboam, and in his sin which he committed, misleading Israel into sin.20 (C1)Now as for the rest of the acts of Zimri and his conspiracy which he (F1)carried out, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel?

21 Then the people of Israel were divided into two parts: half of the people followed Tibni the son of Ginath, to make him king; the other half followed Omri.22 But the people who followed Omri prevailed over the people who followed Tibni the son of Ginath. And Tibni died and Omri became king.23 In the thirty-first year of Asa king of Judah, Omri became king over Israel and reigned for twelve years; he reigned for six years at (C1)Tirzah.24 And he purchased the hill (F1)Samaria from Shemer for (F2)two talents of silver; and he built on the hill, and named the city which he built (F1)(C1)Samaria, after the name of Shemer, the owner of the hill.

25 Now (C1)Omri did evil in the sight of the LORD, and (C2)acted more wickedly than all who were before him.26 For he (C1)walked (F1)entirely in the way of Jeroboam the son of Nebat and in his sins into which he misled Israel, provoking the LORD God of Israel to anger with their (F2)idols.27 Now as for the rest of the acts of Omri which he did and his might which he (F1)displayed, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel?28 And Omri (F1)lay down with his fathers and was buried in Samaria; and his son Ahab became king in his place.

29 Now Ahab the son of Omri became king over Israel in the thirty-eighth year of Asa king of Judah, and Ahab the son of Omri reigned over Israel in Samaria for twenty-two years.30 Ahab the son of Omri did evil in the sight of the LORD (C1)more than all who were before him.

31 And as though it had been a trivial thing for him to walk in the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, (C1)he married Jezebel the daughter of Ethbaal king of the (C2)Sidonians, and went and served Baal, and worshiped him.32 So he erected an altar for Baal at (C1)the house of Baal, which he built in Samaria.33 Ahab also made (C1)the (F1)Asherah. So (C2)Ahab did more to provoke the LORD God of Israel to anger than all the kings of Israel who were before him.34 (C1)In his days Hiel the Bethelite rebuilt Jericho; he laid its foundations with the loss of Abiram his firstborn, and set up its gates with the loss of his youngest son Segub, in accordance with the word of the LORD, which He spoke by Joshua the son of Nun.

Chapter 3

The Nations Will Be Judged

1 "(F1)For behold, (C1)in those days and at that time,
When I (C2)restore the fortunes of Judah and Jerusalem,

2 I will (C1)gather all the nations
And bring them down to the (C2)Valley of (F1)Jehoshaphat.
Then I will (C3)enter into judgment with them there
On behalf of My people and My inheritance, Israel,
Whom they have (C4)scattered among the nations;
And they have (C5)divided up My land.

3 "They have also (C1)cast lots for My people,
(F1)(C2)Traded a boy for a prostitute,
And sold a girl for wine so that they may drink.

4 "Moreover, what are you to Me, (C1)Tyre, Sidon, and all the regions of (C2)Philistia? Are you repaying Me with retribution? But if you are showing Me retribution, swiftly and speedily I will (C3)return your retribution on your head!5 "Since you have (C1)taken My silver and My gold, brought My precious (F1)treasures to your temples,6 and sold the (C1)sons of Judah and Jerusalem to the (F1)Greeks in order to remove them far from their territory,7 behold, I am going to (C1)stir them up from the place where you have sold them, and return your retribution on your head.8 "I will also (C1)sell your sons and your daughters into the hand of the sons of Judah, and they will sell them to the (C2)Sabeans, to a distant nation," for the LORD has spoken.

9 (C1)Proclaim this among the nations:
(C2)Prepare for holy war; (C3)stir up the warriors!
Have all the soldiers come forward, have them come up!

10 (C1)Beat your plowshares into swords,
And your pruning hooks into spears;
(C2)Let the weak man say, "I am a warrior."

11 (F1)(C1)Hurry and come, all you surrounding nations,
And gather yourselves there.
Bring down, LORD, Your (C2)warriors.

12 Let the nations be awakened
And come up to the (C1)Valley of (F1)Jehoshaphat,
For there I will sit to (C2)judge
All the surrounding nations.

13 (C1)Put in the sickle, for the (C2)harvest is ripe.
Come, (C3)tread the grapes, for the (C4)wine press is full;
The vats overflow, for their (C5)wickedness is great.

14 (C1)Multitudes, multitudes in the (C2)valley of (F1)decision!
For the (C3)day of the LORD is near in the valley of (F1)decision.

15 The (C1)sun and moon have become dark,
And the stars have lost their brightness.

16 The LORD (C1)roars from Zion
And (C2)utters His voice from Jerusalem,
And the (C3)heavens and the earth quake.
But the LORD is a (C4)refuge for His people,
And a (C5)stronghold for the sons of Israel.

17 Then you will (C1)know that I am the LORD your God,
Dwelling on Zion, My (C2)holy mountain.
So Jerusalem will be (C3)holy,
And (C4)strangers will no longer pass through it.

Judah Will Be Blessed

18 And on that day
The (C1)mountains will drip with (F1)sweet wine,
And the hills will (C2)flow with milk,
And all the (C3)brooks of Judah will flow with water;
And a (C4)spring will go out from the house of the LORD
And water the Valley of (F2)Shittim.

19 Egypt will become a wasteland,
And Edom will become a desolate wilderness,
Because of the (C1)violence (F1)done to the sons of Judah,
In whose land they have shed innocent blood.

20 But Judah will be (C1)inhabited forever,
And Jerusalem for all generations.

21 And I will (C1)avenge their blood which I have not avenged,
For the LORD dwells in Zion.

1 Corinthians 3

Chapter 3

Foundations for Living

1 And I, brothers and sisters, could not speak to you as (C1)spiritual people, but only as (C2)fleshly, as to (C3)infants in Christ.2 I gave you (C1)milk to drink, not solid food; for you (C2)were not yet able to consume it. But even now you are not yet able,3 for you are still fleshly. For since there is (C1)jealousy and strife among you, are you not fleshly, and are you not walking (C2)like ordinary people?4 For when (C1)one person says, "I am (F1)with Paul," and another, "I am (F1)with Apollos," are you not ordinary (C2)people?

5 What then is Apollos? And what is Paul? (C1)Servants through whom you believed, even (C2)as the Lord gave opportunity to each one.6 (C1)I planted, (C2)Apollos watered, but (C3)God was causing the growth.7 So then neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but God who causes the growth.8 Now the one who plants and the one who waters are one; but each will (C1)receive his own (F1)reward according to his own labor.9 For we are God's (C1)fellow workers; you are God's (F1)(C2)field, God's (C3)building.

10 According to (C1)the grace of God which was given to me, like a wise master builder (C2)I laid a foundation, and (C3)another is building on it. But each person must be careful how he builds on it.11 For no one can lay a (C1)foundation other than the one which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.12 Now if anyone builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, or straw,13 (C1)each one's work will become evident; for (C2)the day will show it because it is to be revealed with fire, and the fire itself will test (F1)the quality of each one's work.14 If anyone's work which he has built on it remains, he will (C1)receive a reward.15 If anyone's work is burned up, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet only (C1)so as through fire.

16 (C1)Do you not know that (C2)you are a (F1)temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?17 If anyone destroys the (F1)temple of God, God will destroy (F2)that person; for the (F1)temple of God is holy, (F3)and that is what you are.

18 (C1)Take care that no one deceives himself. (C2)If anyone among you thinks that he is wise in (C3)this age, he must become foolish, so that he may become wise.19 For (C1)the wisdom of this world is foolishness in the sight of God. For it is written: "He is (C2)THE ONE WHO CATCHES THE WISE BY THEIR CRAFTINESS";20 and again, "(C1)THE LORD KNOWS THE THOUGHTS of the wise, THAT THEY ARE useless."21 So then, (C1)no one is to be boasting in people. For (C2)all things belong to you,22 (C1)whether Paul or Apollos or (F1)Cephas, or the world or (C2)life or death, or things present or things to come; all things belong to you,23 and (C1)you belong to Christ, and (C2)Christ belongs to God.
