2 Kings 7:3-20

Chapter 7

3 Now there were four (C1)leprous men at the entrance of the gate; and they said to one another, "Why are we sitting here until we die?4 "If we say, 'We will enter the city,' then the famine is in the city and we will die there; but if we sit here, we will also die. Now then come, and let's go over to (C1)the camp of the Arameans. If they spare us, we will live; and if they kill us, then we will die."5 So they got up at twilight to go to the camp of the Arameans; when they came to the outskirts of the camp of the Arameans, behold, there was no one there.6 For (C1)the Lord had made the army of the Arameans hear a sound of chariots, a sound of horses, that is, the sound of a great army; and they said to one another, "Behold, the king of Israel has hired (C2)the kings of the Hittites and (C3)the kings of the Egyptians against us, to (F1)attack us!"7 So they (C1)got up and fled at twilight, and abandoned their tents, their horses, and their donkeys—indeed the camp itself, just as it was; and they fled for their lives.8 When these men with leprosy came to the outskirts of the camp, they entered one tent and ate and drank, and (C1)carried from there silver, gold, and clothes, and they went and hid them; then they returned and entered another tent, and carried valuables from there also, and went and hid them.

9 Then they said to one another, "We are not doing the right thing. This day is a day of good news, but we are keeping silent about it; if we wait until the morning light, punishment will (F1)overtake us. Now then come, let's go and inform the king's household."10 So they came and called to the gatekeepers of the city, and told them, saying, "We came to the camp of the Arameans, and behold, there was no one there, nor a human voice; only the horses tied and the donkeys tied, and the tents just as they were."11 And the gatekeepers called and announced it inside the king's house.12 Then the king got up in the night and said to his servants, "I will now tell you what the Arameans have done to us. They know that (C1)we are hungry; so they have left the camp (C2)to hide themselves in the field, saying, 'When they come out of the city, we will capture them alive and get into the city.'"13 One of his servants responded and said, "Please, have some men take five of the horses that remain, which are left (F1)in the city. Behold, they will be in any case like all the multitude of Israel who are left in it; behold, they will be like all the multitude of Israel who have already perished, so let us send them and see."14 Therefore they took two chariots with horses, and the king sent them after the army of the Arameans, saying, "Go and see."

The Promise Fulfilled

15 They went after them to the Jordan, and behold, all the way was full of clothes and equipment which the Arameans had thrown away when they fled in a hurry. Then the messengers returned and informed the king.

16 So the people went out and plundered the camp of the Arameans. Then a (F1)measure of fine flour was sold for a shekel, and two (F1)measures of barley for a shekel, (C1)in accordance with the word of the LORD.17 Now the king appointed (C1)the royal officer on whose hand he leaned (F1)to be in charge of the gate; but the people trampled on him at the gate, and he died, just as the man of God had said, (C2)who spoke when the king came down to him.18 So it happened just as the man of God had spoken to the king, saying, "(C1)Two (F1)measures of barley for a shekel and a (F1)measure of fine flour for a shekel, will be sold about this time tomorrow at the gate of Samaria."19 At that time the royal officer had responded to the man of God and said, "Now even if (C1)the LORD were to make windows in heaven, could such a thing as this happen?" And he had said, "Behold, you are going to see it with your own eyes, but you will not eat (F1)any of it."20 And this is what happened to him, for the people trampled on him at the gate and he died.

Jonah 2

Chapter 2

Jonah's Prayer

1 (F1)Then Jonah prayed to the LORD his God (C1)from the stomach of the fish,2 and he said,

"I (C1)called out of my distress to the LORD,
And He answered me.
I called for help from the (F1)depth of (C2)Sheol;
You heard my voice.

3 "For You (C1)threw me into the deep,
Into the heart of the seas,
And the current flowed around me.
All Your (C2)breakers and waves passed over me.

4 "So I said, 'I have been (C1)cast out (F1)of Your sight.
Nevertheless I will look again (C2)toward Your holy temple.'

5 "(C1)Water encompassed me to the (F1)point of death.
The (C2)deep flowed around me,
Seaweed was wrapped around my head.

6 "I (C1)descended to the base of the mountains.
The earth with its (C2)bars was around me forever,
But You have (C3)brought up my life from (F1)the pit, LORD my God.

7 "While (F1)I was (C1)fainting away,
I (C2)remembered the LORD,
And my (C3)prayer came to You,
Into (C4)Your holy temple.

8 "Those who (C1)are followers of worthless (F1)idols
Abandon their faithfulness,

9 But I will (C1)sacrifice to You
With a voice of thanksgiving.
That which I have vowed I will (C2)pay.
(C3)Salvation is from the LORD."

10 Then the LORD commanded the (C1)fish, and it vomited Jonah up onto the dry land.

1 Corinthians 13

Chapter 13

The Excellence of Love

1 If I speak with the (C1)tongues of mankind and of (C2)angels, but do not have love, I have become a noisy gong or a (C3)clanging cymbal.2 If I have the gift of (C1)prophecy and know all (C2)mysteries and all (C3)knowledge, and if I have (C4)all faith so as to (C5)remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing.3 And if I (C1)give away all my possessions to charity, and if I (C2)surrender my body so that I may (F1)glory, but do not have love, it does me no good.

4 Love (C1)is patient, love is kind, it (C2)is not jealous; love does not brag, it is not (C3)arrogant.5 It does not act disgracefully, it (C1)does not seek its own benefit; it is not provoked, (C2)does not keep an account of a wrong suffered,6 (C1)it does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but (C2)rejoices with the truth;7 it (F1)(C1)keeps every confidence, it believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

8 Love never fails; but if there are gifts of (F1)(C1)prophecy, they will be done away with; if there are (C2)tongues, they will cease; if there is knowledge, it will be done away with.9 For we (C1)know in part and prophesy in part;10 but when the perfect comes, the partial will be done away with.11 When I was a child, I used to speak like a child, think like a child, reason like a child; when I (F1)became a man, I did away with childish things.12 For now we (C1)see in a mirror (F1)dimly, but then (C2)face to face; now I know in part, but then I will know fully, just as I also (C3)have been fully known.13 But now faith, hope, and love remain, these three; but the (F1)greatest of these is (C1)love.
