2 Kings 23:36-24:20

Chapter 23

36 (C1)Jehoiakim was twenty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned for eleven years in Jerusalem; and his mother's name was Zebidah the daughter of Pedaiah of Rumah.37 He did evil in the sight of the LORD, (C1)in accordance with all that his forefathers had done.

Chapter 24

Babylon Controls Jehoiakim

1 (C1)In his days Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came up, and Jehoiakim became his servant for three years; then he turned and revolted against him.2 And the LORD sent against him (C1)bands of Chaldeans, (C2)bands of Arameans, (C3)bands of Moabites, and bands of Ammonites. He sent them against Judah to destroy it, (C4)in accordance with the word of the LORD which He had spoken through His servants the prophets.3 (C1)It indeed came upon Judah at the (F1)command of the LORD, to remove them from His sight (C2)due to the sins of Manasseh, in accordance with everything that he had done,4 and (C1)also for the innocent blood which he shed, for he filled Jerusalem with innocent blood; and the LORD was unwilling to forgive.5 Now the rest of the acts of Jehoiakim and all that he did, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah?

Jehoiachin Reigns

6 So (C1)Jehoiakim (F1)lay down with his fathers, and his son Jehoiachin became king in his place.7 Now (C1)the king of Egypt did not come out of his land again, (C2)because the king of Babylon had taken everything that belonged to the king of Egypt from (C3)the brook of Egypt to the river Euphrates.

8 (C1)Jehoiachin was (C2)eighteen years old when he became king, and he reigned for three months in Jerusalem; and his mother's name was Nehushta the daughter of Elnathan of Jerusalem.9 He did evil in the sight of the LORD, (C1)in accordance with all that his father had done.

Deportation to Babylon

10 At that time the servants of Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon went up to Jerusalem, and the city came under siege.11 And Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon came to the city, while his servants were besieging it.12 Then (C1)Jehoiachin the king of Judah went out to the king of Babylon, he, his mother, his servants, his commanders, and his officials. And (C2)the king of Babylon took him prisoner in the eighth year of his reign.13 (C1)He also brought out from there all the treasures of the house of the LORD, and the treasures of the king's house, and he (C2)smashed all the articles of gold (C3)that Solomon king of Israel had made in the temple of the LORD, just as the LORD had said.14 Then (C1)he led into exile all the people of Jerusalem and all the commanders and all the valiant warriors, (C2)ten thousand exiles, and (C3)all the craftsmen and the smiths. None were left (C4)except the poorest people of the land.

15 So (C1)he led Jehoiachin into exile to Babylon; also the king's mother, the king's wives, and his officials and the leading men of the land, he led into exile from Jerusalem to Babylon.16 And all the valiant men, (C1)seven thousand, and the craftsmen and the smiths, a thousand, all strong and fit for war, these too the king of Babylon brought into exile to Babylon.

Zedekiah Made King

17 (C1)Then the king of Babylon made (F1)his uncle Mattaniah king in his place, and changed his name to Zedekiah.

18 (C1)Zedekiah was twenty-one years old when he became king, and he reigned for eleven years in Jerusalem; and his mother's name was (C2)Hamutal the daughter of Jeremiah of Libnah.19 He did evil in the sight of the LORD, (C1)in accordance with everything that Jehoiakim had done.20 For it was (C1)due to the anger of the LORD that this happened in Jerusalem and Judah, until He cast them out of His presence. And (C2)Zedekiah revolted against the king of Babylon.

Habakkuk 1

Chapter 1

Chaldeans Used to Punish Judah

1 The (C1)pronouncement which Habakkuk the prophet saw:

2 (C1)How long, LORD, have I called for help,
And You do not hear?
I cry out to You, "Violence!"
Yet You do (C2)not save.

3 Why do You make me (C1)see disaster,
And make me look at destitution?
Yes, (C2)devastation and violence are before me;
(C3)Strife exists and contention arises.

4 Therefore the (C1)Law (F1)is ignored,
And justice (F2)is never upheld.
For the wicked (C2)surround the righteous;
Therefore justice comes out (C3)confused.

5 "(C1)Look among the nations! Watch!
Be horrified! (C2)Be frightened speechless!
For I am accomplishing (C3)a work in your days—
You would not believe it even if (F1)you were told!

6 "For behold, I am (C1)raising up the Chaldeans,
That (F1)grim and impetuous people
Who march (F2)throughout the earth,
To (C2)take possession of dwelling places that are not theirs.

7 "They are terrifying and (C1)feared;
Their (C2)justice and (F1)authority (F2)originate with themselves.

8 "Their (C1)horses are faster than leopards,
And quicker than (C2)wolves in the evening.
Their (F1)horsemen charge along,
Their (F1)horsemen come from afar;
They fly like an (C3)eagle (F2)swooping down to devour.

9 "All of them come for violence.
(F1)Their horde of (C1)faces moves forward.
They gather captives like sand.

10 "They (C1)make fun of kings,
And dignitaries are an object of laughter to them.
They (C2)laugh at every fortress,
Then (C3)heap up dirt and (F1)capture it.

11 "Then they fly along like the (C1)wind and pass on.
But they will be held (C2)guilty,
They whose (C3)strength is their god."

12 Are You not from (C1)time everlasting,
LORD, my God, my Holy One?
We will not die.
You, LORD, have (C2)appointed them to deliver judgment;
And You, O (C3)Rock, have destined them to punish.

13 Your eyes are too (C1)pure to look at evil,
And You cannot look at harm favorably.
Why do You (C2)look favorably
At those who deal (C3)treacherously?
Why are You (C4)silent when the wicked (C5)swallow up
Those more righteous than they?

14 Why have You made people like the fish of the sea,
Like crawling things that have no ruler over them?

15 The Chaldeans (C1)bring all of them up with a hook,
(C2)Drag them away with their net,
And gather them together in their fishing net.
Therefore they rejoice and are joyful.

16 Therefore they offer a sacrifice to their net
And (F1)burn incense to their fishing net,
Because through (C1)these things their (F2)catch is (F3)large,
And their food is (F4)plentiful.

17 Will they therefore empty their (C1)net,
And continually (C2)slay nations without sparing?

2 Corinthians 10

Chapter 10

Paul Confronts the Corinthians

1 Now (C1)I, Paul, myself (C2)urge you by the (C3)meekness and gentleness of Christ—I who (C4)am (F1)meek when face to face with you, but bold toward you when absent!2 I ask that (C1)when I am present I need not be bold with the confidence with which I intend to be courageous against (C2)some, who regard us as if we walked (C3)according to the flesh.3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not wage battle (C1)according to the flesh,4 for the (C1)weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but (F1)divinely powerful (C2)for the destruction of fortresses.5 We are destroying arguments and all (C1)arrogance raised against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the (C2)obedience of Christ,6 and we are ready to punish all disobedience, whenever (C1)your obedience is complete.

7 (F1)(C1)You are looking at (F2)things as they are outwardly. (C2)If anyone is confident in himself that he is Christ's, have him consider this again within himself, that just as he is Christ's, (C3)so too are we.8 For if (C1)I boast somewhat (F1)more about our (C2)authority, which the Lord gave for building you up and not for destroying you, I will not be put to shame,9 (F1)for I do not want to seem as if I would terrify you by my letters.10 For they say, "His letters are weighty and strong, but his (F1)personal presence is (C1)unimpressive and (C2)his speech contemptible."11 Have such a person consider this, that what we are in word by letters when absent, such persons we are also in deed when present.

12 For we do not presume to rank or compare ourselves with (F1)some of those who (C1)commend themselves; but when they (F2)measure themselves by themselves and compare themselves with themselves, they have no understanding.13 But we will not boast (C1)beyond our measure, but (F1)(C2)within the measure of the (F2)domain which God assigned to us as a measure, to reach even as far as you.14 For we are not overextending ourselves, as if we did not reach to you, for (C1)we were the first to come even as far as you in the (C2)gospel of Christ;15 not boasting (C1)beyond our measure, that is, in (C2)other people's labors, but with the hope that as (C3)your faith grows, we will be, (F1)within our (F2)domain, (C4)enlarged even more by you,16 so as to (C1)preach the gospel even to (C2)the regions beyond you, and not to boast (F1)(C3)in what has been accomplished in the domain of another.17 But (C1)THE ONE WHO BOASTS IS TO BOAST IN THE LORD.18 For it is not the one who (C1)commends himself that is approved, but the one (C2)whom the Lord commends.
