1 Chronicles 15:1-16:6

Chapter 15

Plans to Move the Ark to Jerusalem

1 Now David built houses for himself in the city of David; and he prepared a place for the ark of God and (C1)pitched a tent for it.2 Then David said, "(C1)No one is to carry the ark of God except the Levites; for the LORD chose them to carry the ark of the LORD and to serve Him forever."3 And (C1)David assembled all Israel at Jerusalem to bring up the ark of the LORD (C2)to its place which he had prepared for it.4 David gathered together the sons of Aaron and (C1)the Levites:5 of the sons of Kohath, Uriel the chief, and 120 of his relatives;6 of the sons of Merari, Asaiah the chief, and 220 of his relatives;7 of the sons of Gershom, Joel the chief, and 130 of his relatives;8 of the sons of Elizaphan, Shemaiah the chief, and two hundred of his relatives;9 of the sons of Hebron, Eliel the chief, and eighty of his relatives;10 of the sons of Uzziel, Amminadab the chief, and 112 of his relatives.

11 Then David called for the priests (C1)Zadok and (C2)Abiathar, and for the Levites, for Uriel, Asaiah, Joel, Shemaiah, Eliel, and Amminadab;12 and he said to them, "You are the heads of the fathers' households of the Levites; (C1)consecrate yourselves, you and your relatives, so that you may bring up the ark of the LORD God of Israel (C2)to the place that I have prepared for it.13 "(C1)Because you did not carry it at the first, the LORD our God made an outburst against us, since we did not seek Him according to the ordinance."14 (C1)So the priests and the Levites consecrated themselves to bring up the ark of the LORD God of Israel.15 The sons of (C1)the Levites carried the ark of God on their shoulders with the poles on them, just as Moses had commanded in accordance with the word of the LORD.

16 Then David spoke to the chiefs of the Levites (C1)to appoint their relatives as the singers, with musical instruments, harps, lyres, and cymbals, playing to raise sounds of joy.17 So (C1)the Levites appointed Heman the son of Joel, and from his relatives, Asaph the son of Berechiah; and from the sons of Merari their relatives, Ethan the son of Kushaiah,18 and with them their relatives of the second rank, Zechariah, (F1)Ben, Jaaziel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Unni, Eliab, Benaiah, Maaseiah, Mattithiah, Eliphelehu, Mikneiah, Obed-edom, and Jeiel, the gatekeepers.19 So the singers, Heman, Asaph, and Ethan, were appointed to sound aloud cymbals of bronze;20 and Zechariah, Aziel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Unni, Eliab, Maaseiah, and Benaiah, with harps tuned to (F1)alamoth;21 and Mattithiah, Eliphelehu, Mikneiah, Obed-edom, Jeiel, and Azaziah, to lead with lyres tuned to (F1)the sheminith.22 Chenaniah, chief of the Levites, was in charge of the singing; he gave instruction in singing because he was skillful.23 Berechiah and Elkanah were gatekeepers for the ark.24 Shebaniah, Joshaphat, Nethanel, Amasai, Zechariah, Benaiah, and Eliezer, the priests, (C1)blew the trumpets before the ark of God. Obed-edom and Jehiah also were gatekeepers for the ark.

25 (C1)So it was David, with the elders of Israel and the captains of thousands, who went to bring up the ark of the covenant of the LORD from (C2)the house of Obed-edom with joy.26 Because God was helping the Levites who were carrying the ark of the covenant of the LORD, they sacrificed (C1)seven bulls and seven rams.27 Now David was clothed with a robe of fine linen with all the Levites who were carrying the ark, and the singers, and Chenaniah the leader of the singing with the singers. (C1)David also wore an ephod of linen.28 So all Israel brought up the ark of the covenant of the LORD with shouting, and with the sound of the horn, with trumpets, with loud-sounding cymbals, with harps, and lyres.

29 When the ark of the covenant of the LORD came to the city of David, (C1)Michal the daughter of Saul looked out of the window and saw King David dancing and celebrating; and she despised him in her heart.

Chapter 16

A Tent for the Ark

1 And they brought in the ark of God and (C1)placed it inside the tent which David had pitched for it, and they offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before God.2 When David had finished offering the burnt offering and the peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the LORD.3 Then he distributed to everyone of Israel, both men and women, to everyone a loaf of bread, a portion of meat, and a raisin cake.

4 He appointed some of the Levites as ministers before the ark of the LORD, to celebrate and to thank and praise the LORD God of Israel:5 Asaph the chief, and second to him Zechariah, then (F1)Jeiel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Mattithiah, Eliab, Benaiah, Obed-edom, and Jeiel, with musical instruments, harps, and lyres; also Asaph played loud-sounding cymbals,6 and the priests Benaiah and Jahaziel blew trumpets continually before the ark of the covenant of God.<

Chapter 4

The Golden Lampstand and the Olive Trees

1 Then (C1)the angel who had been speaking with me returned and (C2)woke me, like a person who is awakened from his sleep.2 And he said to me, "(C1)What do you see?" And I said, "I see, and behold, a (C2)lampstand all of gold with its bowl on the top of it, and its (C3)seven lamps on it with seven (F1)spouts belonging to each of the lamps which are on the top of it;3 also (C1)two olive trees by it, one on the right side of the bowl and the other on its left side."4 Then I said to the angel who was speaking with me, saying, "What are these, (C1)my lord?"5 So (C1)the angel who was speaking with me answered and said to me, "(C2)Do you not know what these are?" And I said, "No, my lord."6 Then he said to (F1)me, "This is the word of the LORD to (C1)Zerubbabel, saying, '(C2)Not by might nor by power, but by My (C3)Spirit,' says the LORD of armies.7 'What are you, you great (C1)mountain? Before Zerubbabel you will become a plain; and he will bring out the top stone with (C2)shouts of "Grace, grace to it!"'"

8 Also the word of the LORD came to me, saying,9 "The hands of Zerubbabel have (C1)laid the foundation of this house, and his hands will (C2)finish it. Then you will know that the LORD of armies has sent me to (F1)you.10 "For who has shown contempt for the day of (C1)small things? (F1)But these (C2)seven will rejoice when they see the (F2)(C3)plumb line in the hand of Zerubbabel—they are the (C4)eyes of the LORD (C5)roaming throughout the earth."

11 Then I said to him, "What are these (C1)two olive trees on the right of the lampstand and on its left?"12 And I responded the second time and said to him, "What are the two olive (F1)branches which are beside the two golden pipes, which empty the golden oil from themselves?"13 So he answered me, saying, "(C1)Do you not know what these are?" And I said, "No, (C2)my lord."14 Then he said, "These are the two (F1)(C1)anointed ones, who are (C2)standing by the (C3)Lord of the whole earth."

John 4:1-26

Chapter 4

Jesus Goes to Galilee

1 So then, when (C1)the Lord knew that the Pharisees had heard that (F1)He was making and (C2)baptizing more disciples than John2 (although (C1)Jesus Himself was not baptizing; rather, His (C2)disciples were),3 He left (C1)Judea and went away (C2)again to Galilee.4 And He had to pass through (C1)Samaria.5 So He (*)came to a city of (C1)Samaria called Sychar, near (C2)the parcel of land that (C3)Jacob gave to his son Joseph;6 and Jacob's well was there. So Jesus, tired from His journey, was just sitting by the well. It was about (F1)the sixth hour.

The Woman of Samaria

7 A woman of Samaria (*)came to draw water. Jesus (*)said to her, "Give Me a drink."8 For His (C1)disciples had gone away to (C2)the city to buy food.9 So the (C1)Samaritan woman (*)said to Him, "How is it that You, though You are a Jew, are asking me for a drink, though I am a Samaritan woman?" (For (C2)Jews do not associate with Samaritans.)10 Jesus replied to her, "If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who is saying to you, 'Give Me a drink,' you would have asked Him, and He would have given you (C1)living water."11 She (*)said to Him, "(F1)Sir, You have no bucket and the well is deep; where then do You get this (C1)living water?12 "You are not greater than our father Jacob, are You, who (C1)gave us the well and drank of it himself, and his sons and his cattle?"13 Jesus answered and said to her, "Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again;14 but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him (C1)shall never be thirsty; but the water that I will give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up to (C2)eternal life."

15 The woman (*)said to Him, "(F1)Sir, (C1)give me this water so that I will not be thirsty, nor come all the way here to draw water."16 He (*)said to her, "Go, call your husband and come here."17 The woman answered and said to Him, "I have no husband." Jesus (*)said to her, "You have correctly said, 'I have no husband';18 for you have had five husbands, and the one whom you now have is not your husband; this which you have said is true."19 The woman (*)said to Him, "(F1)Sir, I perceive that You are (C1)a prophet.20 "(C1)Our fathers worshiped on (C2)this mountain, and yet you Jews say that (C3)in Jerusalem is the place where one must worship."21 Jesus (*)said to her, "Believe Me, woman, that (F1)(C1)a time is coming when you will worship the Father (C2)neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem.22 "(C1)You Samaritans worship what you do not know; we worship what we do know, because (C2)salvation is from the Jews.23 "But (F1)(C1)a time is coming, and (F2)even now has arrived, when the true worshipers will worship the Father (C2)in spirit and truth; for such people the Father seeks to be (F3)His worshipers.24 "God is (F1)spirit, and those who worship Him must worship (C1)in spirit and truth."25 The woman (*)said to Him, "I know that (C1)Messiah is coming ((C2)He who is called Christ); when that One comes, He will declare all things to us."26 Jesus (*)said to her, "(C1)I am He, the One speaking to you."<
