1 Chronicles 25-26

Chapter 25

Number and Services of Musicians

1 Moreover, David and the commanders of the army set apart for the service some of the sons of (C1)Asaph, Heman, and Jeduthun, who were to (C2)prophesy with lyres, (C3)harps, and cymbals; and the number of (F1)those who performed this service was:2 Of the sons of Asaph: Zaccur, Joseph, Nethaniah, and (F1)Asharelah; the sons of Asaph were (F2)under the direction of Asaph, who prophesied (F3)under the direction of the king.3 (C1)Of Jeduthun, the sons of Jeduthun: Gedaliah, (F1)Zeri, Jeshaiah, (F2)Shimei, Hashabiah, and Mattithiah, six in all, (F3)under the direction of their father Jeduthun with the harp, who prophesied in giving thanks and praising the LORD.4 Of Heman, the sons of Heman: Bukkiah, Mattaniah, (F1)Uzziel, (F2)Shebuel and Jerimoth, Hananiah, Hanani, Eliathah, Giddalti and Romamti-ezer, Joshbekashah, Mallothi, Hothir, and Mahazioth.5 All these were the sons of Heman (C1)the king's seer to (F1)exalt him according to the words of God, for God gave fourteen sons and three daughters to Heman.6 All of these were under the (F1)direction of their father to sing in the house of the LORD, (C1)with cymbals, harps, and lyres, for the service of the house of God. (C2)Asaph, Jeduthun, and Heman were (F1)under the direction of the king.7 Their number who were trained in singing to the LORD, with their relatives, all who were skillful, was (C1)288.

Divisions of the Musicians

8 (C1)They cast lots for their duties, all alike, the small as well as the great, the teacher as well as the pupil.

9 Now the first lot came out for Asaph to Joseph, the second for Gedaliah, he with his relatives and sons were twelve;10 the third to Zaccur, his sons and his relatives, twelve;11 the fourth to (F1)Izri, his sons and his relatives, twelve;12 the fifth to Nethaniah, his sons and his relatives, twelve;13 the sixth to Bukkiah, his sons and his relatives, twelve;14 the seventh to (F1)Jesharelah, his sons and his relatives, twelve;15 the eighth to Jeshaiah, his sons and his relatives, twelve;16 the ninth to Mattaniah, his sons and his relatives, twelve;17 the tenth to Shimei, his sons and his relatives, twelve;18 the eleventh to Azarel, his sons and his relatives, twelve;19 the twelfth to Hashabiah, his sons and his relatives, twelve;20 for the thirteenth, Shubael, his sons and his relatives, twelve;21 for the fourteenth, Mattithiah, his sons and his relatives, twelve;22 for the fifteenth to Jeremoth, his sons and his relatives, twelve;23 for the sixteenth to Hananiah, his sons and his relatives, twelve;24 for the seventeenth to Joshbekashah, his sons and his relatives, twelve;25 for the eighteenth to Hanani, his sons and his relatives, twelve;26 for the nineteenth to Mallothi, his sons and his relatives, twelve;27 for the twentieth to Eliathah, his sons and his relatives, twelve;28 for the twenty-first to Hothir, his sons and his relatives, twelve;29 for the twenty-second to Giddalti, his sons and his relatives, twelve;30 for the twenty-third to Mahazioth, his sons and his relatives, twelve;31 for the twenty-fourth to Romamti-ezer, his sons and his relatives, twelve.

Chapter 26

Divisions of the Gatekeepers

1 For the divisions of the gatekeepers there were of the Korahites, (F1)Meshelemiah the son of Kore, of the sons of (F2)Asaph.2 Meshelemiah had sons: Zechariah the firstborn, Jediael the second, Zebadiah the third, Jathniel the fourth,3 Elam the fifth, Johanan the sixth, and Eliehoenai the seventh.4 (C1)Obed-edom had sons: Shemaiah the firstborn, Jehozabad the second, Joah the third, Sacar the fourth, Nethanel the fifth,5 Ammiel the sixth, Issachar the seventh, and Peullethai the eighth; God had indeed blessed him.6 Also to his son Shemaiah sons were born who ruled over the house of their father, for they were valiant mighty men.7 The sons of Shemaiah were Othni, Rephael, Obed, and Elzabad, whose brothers, Elihu and Semachiah, were valiant men.8 All these were of the sons of Obed-edom; they and their sons and relatives were able men with strength for the service, sixty-two from Obed-edom.9 Meshelemiah had sons and relatives, eighteen valiant men.10 Also (C1)Hosah, one of the sons of Merari had sons: Shimri the first (although he was not the firstborn, his father made him first),11 Hilkiah the second, Tebaliah the third, and Zechariah the fourth; the sons and relatives of Hosah were thirteen in all.

12 To these divisions of the gatekeepers, to the chief men, were given duties like their relatives, to serve in the house of the LORD.13 (C1)They cast lots, the small and the great alike, according to their fathers' households, for every gate.14 The lot to the east fell to (F1)Shelemiah. Then they cast lots for his son Zechariah, a counselor with insight, and his lot came out to the north.15 For Obed-edom it fell to the south, and to his sons went the storehouse.16 For Shuppim and Hosah it was to the west, by the gate of Shallecheth, on the ascending highway. Guard corresponded to guard.17 On the east there were six Levites, on the north four daily, on the south four daily, and at the storehouse two by two.18 At the (F1)(C1)annex on the west there were four at the highway and two at the annex.19 These were the divisions of the gatekeepers of the sons of Korah and of the sons of Merari.

Keepers of the Treasure

20 (F1)The Levites, their relatives, were in (C1)charge of the treasures of the house of God and of the treasures of the dedicated gifts.21 The sons of Ladan, the sons of the Gershonites belonging to Ladan, namely, the Jehielites, were the heads of the fathers' households, belonging to Ladan the Gershonite.

22 The sons of Jehieli, Zetham, and his brother Joel, were in charge of the treasures of the house of the LORD.23 As for the Amramites, the Izharites, the Hebronites, and the Uzzielites,24 Shebuel the son of Gershom, the son of Moses, was officer over the treasures.25 His relatives by Eliezer were Rehabiah his son, Jeshaiah his son, Joram his son, Zichri his son, and Shelomoth his son.26 This Shelomoth and his relatives were in charge of all the treasures of the dedicated gifts (C1)which King David and the heads of the fathers' households, the commanders of thousands and hundreds, and the commanders of the army, had dedicated.27 They dedicated (F1)part of the spoils won in battles to repair the house of the LORD.28 And all that Samuel the seer had dedicated, and Saul the son of Kish, Abner the son of Ner, and Joab the son of Zeruiah, everyone who had dedicated anything, all of this was (F1)under the care of (F2)Shelomoth and his relatives.

Outside Duties

29 As for the Izharites, Chenaniah and his sons (C1)were assigned to outside duties for Israel, as (C2)officers and judges.30 As for the Hebronites, (C1)Hashabiah and his relatives, 1,700 capable men, (F1)were responsible for the affairs of Israel (F2)west of the Jordan, for all the work of the LORD and the service of the king.31 As for the Hebronites, (C1)Jerijah the chief (F1)(these Hebronites were sought out according to their genealogies and fathers' households, in the fortieth year of David's reign, and men of outstanding capability were found among them at (C2)Jazer of Gilead)32 and his relatives, capable men, numbered 2,700, heads of fathers' households. And King David appointed them as overseers of the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of the Manassites (C1)concerning (F1)all the affairs of God and of the king.

Zechariah 11

Chapter 11

The Doomed Flock

1 Open your doors, Lebanon,

So that a (C1)fire may feed on your (C2)cedars.

2 Wail, juniper, because the cedar has fallen,
For the magnificent trees have been destroyed;
Wail, oaks of Bashan,
Because the (F1)impenetrable forest has come down.

3 There is a sound of the shepherds' (C1)wail,
For their splendor is ruined;
There is a (C2)sound of the young lions' roar,
For the (F1)pride of the Jordan is ruined.

4 This is what the LORD my God says: "Pasture the flock doomed to (C1)slaughter.5 "Those who buy them slaughter them and (F1)go (C1)unpunished, and each of those who sell them says, 'Blessed be the LORD, for (C2)I have become rich!' And their (C3)own shepherds have no compassion for them.6 "For I will (C1)no longer have compassion for the inhabitants of the land," declares the LORD; "but behold, I will (C2)let the people fall, each into another's (F1)power and into the (F1)power of his king; and they will crush the land, and I will (C3)not rescue them from their (F1)power."

7 So I (C1)pastured the flock doomed to slaughter, (F1)therefore also the (C2)afflicted of the flock. And I took for myself two (C3)staffs: the one I called (F2)(C4)Favor, and the other I called (C5)Union; so I pastured the flock.8 Then I did away with the three shepherds in (C1)one month, for my soul was impatient with them, and their soul also (F1)was tired of me.9 Then I said, "I will not pasture you. What is to (C1)die, (F1)let it die, and what is to perish, (F2)let it perish; and (F3)let those who are left eat one another's flesh."10 And I took my staff (F1)(C1)Favor and cut it in pieces, to (F2)(C2)break my covenant which I had made with all the peoples.11 So it was (F1)broken on that day, and (F2)so the (C1)afflicted of the flock who were watching me realized that it was the word of the LORD.12 And I said to them, "If it is good in your sight, give me my (C1)wages; but if not, (F1)never mind!" So they weighed out (C2)thirty shekels of silver as my wages.13 Then the LORD said to me, "Throw it to the (C1)potter, that magnificent price at which I was valued by them." So I took the thirty shekels of silver and threw them to the potter in the house of the LORD.14 Then I cut in pieces my second staff (C1)Union, to (C2)break the brotherhood between Judah and Israel.

15 And the LORD said to me, "Take again for yourself the equipment of a (C1)foolish shepherd.16 "For behold, I am going to raise up a shepherd in the land who will (C1)not care for the perishing, seek the scattered, heal the broken, or provide for the one who is exhausted, but will (C2)devour the flesh of the fat sheep and tear off their hoofs.

17 "(C1)Woe to the worthless shepherd
Who abandons the flock!
A (C2)sword will be on his arm
And on his right eye!
His (C3)arm will be totally withered,
And his right eye will be (F1)blind."

John 6:60-71

Chapter 6

60 So then many of His (C1)disciples, when they heard this, said, "(C2)This statement is very (F1)unpleasant; who can listen to it?"61 But Jesus, (C1)aware that His disciples were complaining about this, said to them, "Is this (F1)(C2)offensive to you?62 "What then if you see (C1)the Son of Man (C2)ascending to where He was before?63 "(C1)It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh provides no benefit; (C2)the words that I have spoken to you are spirit, and are life.64 "But there are (C1)some of you who do not believe." For Jesus (C2)knew from the beginning who they were who did not believe, and (C3)who it was who would (F1)betray Him.65 And He was saying, "For this reason I have (C1)told you that no one can come to Me unless (C2)it has been granted him from the Father."

Peter's Confession of Faith

66 As a result of this many of His (C1)disciples (C2)left, and would no longer walk with Him.67 So Jesus said to (C1)the twelve, "You do not want to leave also, do you?"68 (C1)Simon Peter answered Him, "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have (C2)words of eternal life.69 "And we have already believed and have come to know that You are (C1)the Holy One of God."70 Jesus answered them, "(C1)Did I Myself not choose you, (C2)the twelve? And yet one of you is (C3)a devil."71 Now He meant Judas (C1)the son of Simon Iscariot; for he, (C2)one of (C3)the twelve, (F1)was going to betray Him.
