Chapter 2
17 Solomon counted all the foreigners who were in the land of Israel, (C1)following the (F1)census which his father David had (F2)taken; and 153,600 were found.18 (C1)He appointed seventy thousand of them to carry loads and eighty thousand to quarry stones in the mountains, and 3,600 supervisors to make the people work.
Chapter 3
The Temple Construction in Jerusalem
1 (C1)Then Solomon began to build the house of the LORD in Jerusalem on Mount Moriah, where the LORD had appeared to his father David, at the place that David had prepared (C2)on the threshing floor of (F1)Ornan the Jebusite.2 He began to build on the second day in the second month (F1)of the fourth year of his reign.
Dimensions and Materials of the Temple
3 Now these are the (F1)foundations which (C1)Solomon laid for building the house of God. The length in cubits, according to the old standard, was (F2)sixty cubits, and the width, twenty cubits.4 The porch which was in front of the house (C1)was as long as the width of the house, (F1)twenty cubits, and the height (F2)twenty; and inside he overlaid it with pure gold.5 He overlaid (C1)the (F1)main room with juniper wood and overlaid it with fine gold; and he (F2)ornamented it with palm trees and chains.6 Further, he overlaid the house (F1)with precious stones; and the gold was gold from Parvaim.7 (C1)He also overlaid the house with gold—the beams, the thresholds, and its walls and doors; and he (C2)carved cherubim on the walls.8 Then he made (C1)the (F1)room of the Most Holy Place: its length across the width of the house was (F2)twenty cubits, and its width was twenty cubits; and he overlaid it with fine gold, amounting to (F3)six hundred talents.9 The weight of the nails was fifty shekels of gold. He also overlaid (C1)the upper rooms with gold.
10 (C1)Then he made two (F1)sculptured cherubim in the room of the Most Holy Place and overlaid them with gold.11 The wingspan of the (F1)cherubim was twenty (F2)cubits; the wing of one, of five cubits, touched the wall of the house, and its other wing, of five cubits, touched the wing of the other cherub.12 The wing of the other cherub, of five cubits, touched the wall of the house; and its other wing, of five cubits, was attached to the wing of the (F1)first cherub.13 The wings of these cherubim extended twenty cubits, and they stood on their feet (F1)facing the main room.14 (C1)He made the veil of violet, purple, crimson, and fine linen, and he worked cherubim into it.
15 (C1)He also made two pillars for the front of the house, thirty-five cubits (F1)high, and the capital on the top of each was five cubits.16 He made chains in the inner sanctuary and placed them on the tops of the pillars; and he made a hundred pomegranates and placed them on the chains.17 (C1)He erected the pillars in front of the temple, one on the right and the other on the left, and named the one on the right Jachin and the one on the left Boaz.
Chapter 4
Furnishings of the Temple
1 Then (C1)he made a bronze altar, (F1)twenty cubits in length, (F1)twenty cubits in width, and (F2)ten cubits in height.2 (C1)He also made the (F1)Sea of cast metal, (F2)ten cubits from brim to brim, circular in form, and its height was (F3)five cubits and (F4)its circumference (F5)thirty cubits.3 Now figures like oxen were under it and all around it, (F1)ten cubits, entirely encircling the Sea. The oxen were in two rows, cast (F2)in one piece.4 It was standing on twelve oxen, three facing north, three facing west, three facing south, and three facing east; and the Sea was set on top of them and all their hindquarters turned inward.5 It was a (F1)hand width thick, and its brim was made like the brim of a cup, like a lily blossom; it (C1)could hold three thousand (F2)baths.6 (C1)He also made ten basins in which to wash, and he set five on the right side and five on the left (F1)to rinse things for the burnt offering; but the Sea was for the priests to wash in.
7 Then (C1)he made the ten golden lampstands in the way prescribed for them, and he set them in the temple, five on the right side and five on the left.8 He also made (C1)ten tables and placed them in the temple, five on the right side and five on the left. And he made a hundred golden bowls.9 Then he made (C1)the courtyard of the priests and (C2)the great courtyard, and doors for the courtyard, and overlaid their doors with bronze.10 (C1)He put the Sea on the right side of the house toward the southeast.
11 (C1)Huram also made the pails, the shovels, and the bowls. So Huram finished the work that he did for King Solomon in the house of God:12 the two pillars, the bowls and the two capitals on top of the pillars, and the two latticeworks to cover the two bowls of the capitals which were on top of the pillars,13 and (C1)the four hundred pomegranates for the two latticeworks, two rows of pomegranates for each latticework to cover the two bowls of the capitals which were on the pillars.14 (C1)He also made the stands and he made the basins on the stands,15 and the one Sea with the twelve oxen under it.16 The pails, the shovels, the forks, and all its utensils, (C1)Huram-abi made of polished bronze for King Solomon, for the house of the LORD.17 On the plain of the Jordan the king cast them in the clay ground between Succoth and Zeredah.18 (C1)So Solomon made all these utensils in great quantities, for the weight of the bronze could not be determined.
19 Solomon also made all the things that were in the house of God: the golden altar, (C1)the tables with the bread of the Presence on them,20 the lampstands with their lamps of pure gold, (C1)to burn in front of the inner sanctuary in the way prescribed;21 the flowers, the lamps, and the tongs of gold, that is, of purest gold;22 and the snuffers, the bowls, the spoons, and the firepans of pure gold; and the entrance of the house, its inner doors for the Most Holy Place and the doors of the house, that is, of the main room, of gold.
Chapter 5
The Ark Is Brought into the Temple
1 (C1)So all the work that Solomon performed for the house of the LORD was finished. And Solomon brought in the (F1)(C2)things that his father David had dedicated, the silver, the gold, and all the utensils, and he put them in the treasuries of the house of God.<
Malachi 1:1-2:9
Chapter 1
God's Love for Jacob
1 The (C1)pronouncement of the word of the LORD to (C2)Israel through (F1)Malachi:
2 "I have (C1)loved you," says the LORD. But you say, "How have You loved us?" "Was Esau not Jacob's brother?" declares the LORD. "Yet I (C2)have loved Jacob;3 but I have hated Esau, and I have (C1)made his mountains a desolation and given his inheritance to the jackals of the wilderness."4 Though Edom says, "We have been (C1)beaten down, but we will (F1)(C2)return and build up the ruins"; this is what the LORD of armies says: "They may (C3)build, but I will tear down; and people will call them the (F2)territory of wickedness, and the people (F3)with whom the LORD is indignant (C4)forever."5 And your eyes will see this, and you will say, "(C1)The LORD (F1)be exalted beyond the (F2)border of Israel!"
Sin of the Priests
6 "'A son (C1)honors his father, and a servant his master. Then if I am a (C2)father, where is My honor? And if I am a master, where is My (F1)respect?' says the LORD of armies to you, the (C3)priests who despise My name! But you say, 'How have we despised Your name?'7 "You are presenting (C1)defiled (F1)(C2)food upon My altar. But you say, 'How have we defiled You?' In that you say, 'The (C3)table of the LORD is to be despised.'8 "And when you present a (C1)blind animal for sacrifice, is it not evil? Or when you present a lame or sick animal, is it not evil? So offer it to your (C2)governor! Would he be pleased with you, or would he receive you kindly?" says the LORD of armies.9 "But now, do indeed (C1)plead for God's favor, so that He will be gracious to us. (F1)With such an offering on your part, will He (C2)receive any of you kindly?" says the LORD of armies.10 "If only there were one among you who would (C1)shut the (F1)gates, so that you would not kindle fire on My altar for nothing! I am not pleased with you," says the LORD of armies, "(C2)nor will I accept an offering from your hand.11 "For from the (C1)rising of the sun even to its setting, (C2)My name shall be (C3)great among the nations, and in every place (C4)frankincense is going to be offered to My name, and a grain offering that is pure; for My name shall be (C5)great among the nations," says the LORD of armies.12 "But you are (C1)profaning it by your saying, 'The table of the Lord is defiled, and as for its fruit, its food is to be despised.'13 "You also say, 'See, (F1)how (C1)tiresome it is!' And you view it as trivial," says the LORD of armies, "and you bring what was taken by (C2)robbery and what is (C3)lame or sick; so you bring the offering! Should I (C4)accept it from your hand?" says the LORD.14 "But cursed be the (C1)swindler who has a male in his flock and vows it, but sacrifices a (C2)blemished animal to the Lord, for I am a great (C3)King," says the LORD of armies, "and My name is (F1)(C4)feared among the (F2)nations."
Chapter 2
Priests to Be Disciplined
1 "And now, this commandment is for you, the priests.2 "If you do (C1)not listen, and if you do not take it to heart to give honor to My name," says the LORD of armies, "then I will send the (C2)curse upon you and I will curse your blessings; and indeed, I have (C3)cursed them already, because you are not taking it to heart.3 "Behold, I am going to (C1)rebuke your (F1)descendants, and I will (C2)spread (F2)dung on your faces, the (F2)dung of your (C3)feasts; and you will be taken away (F3)with it.4 "Then you will know that I have sent this commandment to you, (F1)so that My (C1)covenant may (F2)continue with Levi," says the LORD of armies.5 "My covenant with him was one of life and (C1)peace, and I gave them to him as an object of (F1)reverence; so he (F2)(C2)revered Me and was in awe of My name.6 "(F1)(C1)True instruction was in his mouth and injustice was not found on his lips; he walked (C2)with Me in peace and justice, and he (C3)turned many back from wrongdoing.7 "For the lips of a priest should maintain (C1)knowledge, and people should (C2)seek (F1)instruction from his mouth; for he is the (C3)messenger of the LORD of armies.8 "But as for you, you have turned aside from the way; you have caused many to (C1)stumble (F1)by the instruction; you have (C2)ruined the covenant of Levi," says the LORD of armies.9 "So (C1)I also have made you despised and of (C2)low reputation (F1)in the view of all the people, since you are not keeping My ways but are showing (C3)partiality in the (F2)instruction."<
John 8:21-47
Chapter 8
21 Then He said again to them, "I am going away, and (C1)you will look for Me, and (C2)will die in your sin; where I am going, you cannot come."22 So (C1)the Jews were saying, "Surely He will not kill Himself, will He, since He says, '(C2)Where I am going, you cannot come'?"23 And He was saying to them, "(C1)You are from below, I am from above; (C2)you are of this world, (C3)I am not of this world.24 "Therefore I said to you that you (C1)will die in your sins; for unless you believe that (F1)(C2)I am, (C1)you will die in your sins."25 Then they were saying to Him, "Who are You?" Jesus said to them, "(F1)What have I even been saying to you from the beginning?26 "I have many things to say and to judge regarding you, but (C1)He who sent Me is true; and (C2)the things which I heard from Him, these I say to the world."27 They did not realize that He was speaking to them about the Father.28 So Jesus said, "When you (C1)lift up the Son of Man, then you will know that (F1)(C2)I am, and (C3)I do nothing (F2)on My own, but I say these things as the Father instructed Me.29 "And He who sent Me is with Me; (C1)He (F1)has not left Me alone, for (C2)I always do the things that are pleasing to Him."30 As He said these things, (C1)many came to believe in Him.
The Truth Will Set You Free
31 So Jesus was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, "(C1)If you continue in My word, then you are truly My (C2)disciples;32 and (C1)you will know the truth, and (C2)the truth will set you free."33 They answered Him, "(C1)We are Abraham's descendants and have never been enslaved to anyone; how is it that You say, 'You will become free'?"
34 Jesus answered them, "Truly, truly I say to you, (C1)everyone who commits sin is a slave of sin.35 "Now (C1)the slave does not remain in the house forever; (C2)the son does remain forever.36 "So if the Son (C1)sets you free, you really will be free.37 "I know that you are (C1)Abraham's descendants; yet (C2)you are seeking to kill Me, because My word (F1)has no place in you.38 "I speak of the things which I have seen (F1)with My Father; therefore you also do the things which you heard from (C1)your father."
39 They answered and said to Him, "Abraham is (C1)our father." Jesus (*)said to them, "(C2)If you are Abraham's children, do the deeds of Abraham.40 "But as it is, (C1)you are seeking to kill Me, a Man who has (C2)told you the truth, which I heard from God; this Abraham did not do.41 "You are doing the deeds of (C1)your father." They said to Him, "We were not born as a result of sexual immorality; (C2)we have one Father: God."42 Jesus said to them, "If God were your Father, (C1)you would love Me, (C2)for I came forth from God and am here; for I have (C3)not even come (F1)on My own, but (F2)(C4)He sent Me.43 "Why do you not understand (F1)(C1)what I am saying? It is because you cannot (C2)listen to My word.44 "(C1)You are of (C2)your father the devil, and (C3)you want to do the desires of your father. (C4)He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth because (C5)there is no truth in him. Whenever he tells (F1)a lie, he (C6)speaks from his own nature, because he is a liar and the father of (F2)lies.45 "But because (C1)I say the truth, you do not believe Me.46 "Which one of you convicts Me of sin? If (C1)I speak truth, why do you not believe Me?47 "(C1)The one who is of God hears the words of God; for this reason you do not hear them, because you are not of God."<
