Chapter 14
Asa Succeeds Abijah in Judah
1 (F1)(C1)So Abijah (F2)lay down with his fathers, and they buried him in the city of David, and his son Asa became king in his place. The land was undisturbed for ten years during his days.
2 (F1)And Asa did what was good and right in the sight of the LORD his God,3 for he removed (C1)the foreign altars and (C2)high places, tore down the memorial stones, cut down the (F1)(C3)Asherim,4 and commanded Judah to seek the LORD God of their fathers and to (F1)comply with the Law and the commandment.5 He also removed the high places and the (C1)incense altars from all the cities of Judah. And the kingdom was undisturbed under him.6 (C1)He built fortified cities in Judah, since the land was undisturbed, and (F1)there was no one at war with him during those years, (C2)because the LORD had given him rest.7 For he said to Judah, "(C1)Let's build these cities and surround them with walls and towers, gates and bars. The land is still (F1)ours because we have sought the LORD our God; we have sought Him, and He has given us rest on every side." So they built and prospered.8 Now Asa had an army of (C1)three hundred thousand from Judah, carrying large shields and spears, and 280,000 from Benjamin, carrying shields and wielding bows; all of them were valiant warriors.
9 Now Zerah the Ethiopian (C1)went out against them with an army of a million men and three hundred chariots, and he came to (C2)Mareshah.10 So Asa went out (F1)to meet him, and they drew up in battle formation in the Valley of Zephathah at Mareshah.11 Then Asa (C1)called to the LORD his God and said, "LORD, there is no one besides You to help in the battle between the powerful and those who have no strength; help us, LORD our God, (C2)for we trust in You, and in Your name have come against this multitude. LORD, You are our God; do not let man prevail against You."12 So (C1)the LORD (F1)routed the Ethiopians before Asa and before Judah, and the Ethiopians fled.13 Asa and the people who were with him pursued them as far as (C1)Gerar; and so many Ethiopians fell that (F1)they could not recover, for they were shattered before the LORD and before His army. And they carried away a very large amount of plunder.14 They (F1)destroyed all the cities around Gerar, (C1)for the dread of the LORD had fallen on them; and they pillaged all the cities, for there was much plunder in them.15 They also fatally struck (F1)those who owned livestock, and they led away large numbers of sheep and camels. Then they returned to Jerusalem.
Chapter 15
Azariah the Prophet Warns Asa
1 Now (C1)the Spirit of God came on Azariah the son of Oded,2 and he went out (F1)to meet Asa and said to him, "Listen to me, Asa, and all Judah and Benjamin: (C1)the LORD is with you when you are with Him. And (C2)if you seek Him, He will let you find Him; but if you abandon Him, He will abandon you.3 "(C1)For many days Israel was without the true God and without (C2)a teaching priest and without the Law.4 "But (C1)in their distress they turned to the LORD God of Israel, and they sought Him, and He let them find Him.5 "(C1)In those times there was no peace for him who went out or him who came in, because many disturbances (F1)afflicted all the inhabitants of the lands.6 "(C1)Nation was crushed by nation, and city by city, for God troubled them with every kind of distress.7 "But you, (C1)be strong and do not (F1)lose courage, for there is a (C2)reward for your work."
Asa's Reforms
8 Now when Asa heard these words and the (F1)prophecy which Azariah the son of Oded the prophet spoke, he took courage and removed the abominable idols from all the land of Judah and Benjamin, and from (C1)the cities which he had captured in the hill country of Ephraim. (C2)He then restored the altar of the LORD which was in front of the porch of the LORD.9 And he gathered all Judah and Benjamin, and those from Ephraim, Manasseh, and Simeon (C1)who resided with them, for many defected to him from Israel when they saw that the LORD his God was with him.10 So they assembled at Jerusalem in the third month of the fifteenth year of Asa's reign.11 (C1)They sacrificed to the LORD on that day seven hundred oxen and seven thousand sheep from the spoils they had brought.12 (C1)They entered into the covenant to seek the LORD God of their fathers with all their heart and soul;13 and whoever would not seek the LORD God of Israel (C1)was to be put to death, whether small or great, man or woman.14 Moreover, they made an oath to the LORD with a loud voice, with shouting, trumpets, and with horns.15 All Judah rejoiced concerning the oath, for they had sworn with all their heart and had sought Him (F1)earnestly, and He let them find Him. So (C1)the LORD gave them rest on every side.
16 (C1)He also removed Maacah, the mother of King Asa, from the position of queen mother, because she had made an abominable image (F1)as (C2)an Asherah, and (C3)Asa cut down her abominable image, crushed it, and burned it at the brook Kidron.17 But the high places were not removed from Israel; nevertheless Asa's heart was blameless all his days.18 He brought into the house of God the dedicated things of his father and his own dedicated things: silver, gold, and utensils.19 And there was no more war until the thirty-fifth year of Asa's reign.

Chapter 77
Comfort in Trouble from Recalling God's Mighty Deeds.
1 My voice rises to God, and I will (C1)cry aloud;
My voice rises to God, and He will listen to me.
2 In the (C1)day of my trouble I sought the Lord;
(C2)In the night my (C3)hand was stretched out and did not grow weary;
My soul (C4)refused to be comforted.
3 When I remember God, then I am (C1)restless;
When I (C2)sigh, then (C3)my spirit feels weak. Selah
4 You have held my eyelids open;
I am so troubled that I (C1)cannot speak.
5 I have considered the (C1)days of old,
The years of long ago.
6 I will remember my (C1)song in the night;
I (C2)will meditate with my heart,
And my spirit (F1)ponders:
7 Will the Lord (C1)reject forever?
And will He (C2)never be favorable again?
8 Has His (C1)favor ceased forever?
Has His (F1)(C2)promise come to an end (F2)forever?
9 Has God (C1)forgotten to be gracious,
Or has He in anger (F1)withdrawn His (C2)compassion? Selah
10 Then I said, "(C1)It is my (F1)grief,
That the (C2)right hand of the Most High has changed."
11 I shall remember the (C1)deeds of (F1)the LORD;
I will certainly (C1)remember Your wonders of old.
12 I will (C1)meditate on all Your work,
And on Your deeds with thanksgiving.
13 Your way, God, is (C1)holy;
(C2)What god is great like our God?
14 You are the (C1)God who works wonders;
You have (C2)made known Your strength among the peoples.
15 By Your (F1)power You have (C1)redeemed Your people,
The sons of Jacob and (C2)Joseph. Selah
16 The (C1)waters saw You, God;
The waters saw You, they were in anguish;
The ocean depths also trembled.
17 The (C1)clouds poured out water;
The skies (F1)(C2)sounded out;
Your (C3)arrows (F2)flashed here and there.
18 The (C1)sound of Your thunder was in the whirlwind;
The (C2)lightning lit up the world;
The (C3)earth trembled and shook.
19 Your (C1)way was in the sea
And Your paths in the mighty waters,
And Your footprints were not known.
20 You (C1)led Your people like a flock
By the hand of (C2)Moses and Aaron.
John 12:1-26
Chapter 12
Mary Anoints Jesus
1 (C1)Therefore, six days before (C2)the Passover, Jesus came to (C3)Bethany where Lazarus was, whom Jesus had raised from the dead.2 So they made Him a dinner there, and (C1)Martha was serving; and Lazarus was one of those reclining at the table with Him.3 (C1)Mary then took a (F1)pound of very expensive (C2)perfume of pure nard, and anointed the feet of Jesus and wiped His feet with her hair; and the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume.4 But (C1)Judas Iscariot, one of His disciples, the one who intended to (F1)betray Him, (*)said,5 "Why was this perfume not sold for three hundred (F1)denarii and the proceeds given to poor people?"6 Now he said this, not because he cared about the poor, but because he was a thief, and as he (C1)kept the money box, he used to (F1)steal from (C2)what was put into it.7 Therefore Jesus said, "Leave her alone, so that she may keep it (F1)for (C1)the day of My burial.8 "(C1)For you always have the poor with you, but you do not always have Me."
9 The (C1)large crowd of the Jews then learned that He was there; and they came, not on account of Jesus only, but so that they might also see Lazarus, (C2)whom He raised from the dead.10 But the chief priests planned to put Lazarus to death also,11 because (C1)on account of him (C2)many of the Jews were going away and were believing in Jesus.
The Triumphal Entry
12 On the next day, when (C1)the large crowd that had come to (C2)the feast heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem,13 they took the branches of the palm trees and went out to meet Him, and began shouting, "(C1)Hosanna! BLESSED IS HE WHO COMES IN THE NAME OF THE LORD, indeed, the (C2)King of Israel!"14 Jesus, finding a young donkey, sat on it; as it is written:15 "(C1)DO NOT FEAR, DAUGHTER OF ZION; BEHOLD, YOUR KING IS COMING, SEATED ON A DONKEY'S COLT."16 (C1)These things His disciples did not understand at the first; but when Jesus (C2)was glorified, then they remembered that these things were written of Him, and that they had done these things for Him.17 So (C1)the (F1)people, who were with Him when He called Lazarus out of the tomb and raised him from the dead, continued to testify about Him.18 (C1)For this reason also the (F1)people went to meet Him, (C2)because they heard that He had performed this (F2)sign.19 So the Pharisees said (F1)to one another, "You see that you are not accomplishing anything; look, the world has gone after Him!"
Greeks Seek Jesus
20 Now there were some (C1)Greeks among those who were going up to worship at (C2)the feast;21 these people then came to (C1)Philip, who was from (C2)Bethsaida of Galilee, and were making a request of him, saying, "Sir, we wish to see Jesus."22 Philip (*)came and (*)told (C1)Andrew; then Andrew and Philip (*)came and (*)told Jesus.23 But Jesus (*)answered them by saying, "(C1)The hour has come for the Son of Man to (C2)be glorified.24 "Truly, truly I say to you, (C1)unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit.25 "(C1)The one who loves his (F1)life loses it, and the one who (C2)hates his (F1)life in this world will keep it (F2)to eternal life.26 "If anyone (F1)serves Me, he must follow Me; and (C1)where I am, there My servant will be also; if anyone (F1)serves Me, the Father will (C2)honor him.<
