2 Chronicles 21:2-22:12
Chapter 21
2 He had brothers, the sons of Jehoshaphat: Azariah, Jehiel, Zechariah, (F1)Azaryahu, Michael, and Shephatiah. All these were the sons of Jehoshaphat king (C1)of Israel.3 Their father gave them many gifts of silver, gold, and precious things, (C1)with fortified cities in Judah; but he gave the kingdom to Jehoram because he was the firstborn.
4 Now when Jehoram had (F1)taken over the kingdom of his father and gathered courage, he (C1)killed all his brothers with the sword, and some of the leaders of Israel as well.5 (C1)Jehoram was thirty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned for eight years in Jerusalem.6 (C1)He walked in the way of the kings of Israel, just as the house of Ahab had done, (C2)for Ahab's daughter was his wife; and he did evil in the sight of the LORD.7 Yet the LORD was not willing to destroy the house of David because of the covenant which He had made with David, (C1)and because He had promised to give a lamp to him and his sons forever.
Revolt against Judah
8 In his days (C1)Edom broke away (F1)from the rule of Judah, and appointed a king over themselves.9 Then Jehoram crossed over with his commanders and all his chariots with him. And he got up at night and struck and killed the Edomites who were surrounding him, and the commanders of the chariots.10 So Edom revolted (F1)against Judah to this day. Then Libnah revolted at the same time (F2)against his rule because he had abandoned the LORD God of his fathers.11 Furthermore, (C1)he made high places in the mountains of Judah, and caused the inhabitants of Jerusalem (C2)to be unfaithful, and led Judah astray.
12 Then a letter came to him from Elijah the prophet, saying, "This is what the LORD, the God of your father David says: 'Because (C1)you have not walked in the ways of your father Jehoshaphat (C2)and the ways of Asa king of Judah,13 but (C1)have walked in the way of the kings of Israel, and have caused Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem to be unfaithful (C2)as the house of Ahab was unfaithful, and you (C3)have also killed your brothers, (F1)your own family, who were better than you,14 behold, the LORD is going to strike your people, your sons, your wives, and all your possessions with a great plague;15 and (C1)you will suffer (F1)severe sickness, a disease of your bowels, until your bowels come out because of the sickness, day by day.'"
16 Then (C1)the LORD stirred up against Jehoram the spirit of the Philistines and (C2)the Arabs who (F1)bordered the Ethiopians;17 and they came against Judah and invaded it, and carried away all the possessions found in the king's house together with his sons and his wives, so that no son was left to him except (F1)(C1)Jehoahaz, the youngest of his sons.
18 So after all this the LORD struck him (C1)in his intestines with an incurable sickness.19 Now it came about in the course of time, at the end of two years, that his bowels came out because of his sickness, and he died in great pain. And his people did not make a funeral fire for him like (C1)the fire for his fathers.20 He was thirty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem for eight years; and he departed (F1)(C1)with no one's regret, and they buried him in the city of David, (C2)but not in the tombs of the kings.
Chapter 22
Ahaziah Succeeds Jehoram in Judah
1 (C1)Then the inhabitants of Jerusalem made (F1)Ahaziah, his youngest son, king in his place, for the band of men who came with (C2)the Arabs to the camp had killed all the older sons. So Ahaziah the son of Jehoram king of Judah began to reign.2 Ahaziah was (F1)twenty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned for one year in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Athaliah, the (F2)granddaughter of Omri.3 He also walked in the ways of the house of Ahab, for his mother was his counselor to act wickedly.4 So he did evil in the sight of the LORD like the house of Ahab, for they were his counselors after the death of his father, to (C1)his own destruction.
Ahaziah Allies with Jehoram of Israel
5 He also walked by their counsel, and went with Jehoram the son of Ahab king of Israel to wage war against Hazael king of Aram at Ramoth-gilead. But the (C1)Arameans (F1)wounded (F2)Joram.6 So he returned to be healed in Jezreel of the wounds (F1)which they had inflicted on him at Ramah, when he fought against Hazael king of Aram. And (F2)Ahaziah, the son of Jehoram king of Judah, went down to see Jehoram the son of Ahab in Jezreel, because he was sick.7 Now (C1)the destruction of Ahaziah was from God, in that (F1)he went to Joram. For when he arrived, (C2)he went out with Jehoram against Jehu the son of Nimshi, (C3)whom the LORD had anointed to eliminate the house of Ahab.
Jehu Murders Princes of Judah
8 (C1)And it came about, when Jehu was executing judgment on the house of Ahab, that he found the princes of Judah and the sons of Ahaziah's brothers attending to Ahaziah, and killed them.9 (C1)He also searched for Ahaziah, and they caught him while he was hiding in Samaria; they brought him to Jehu, put him to death, (C2)and buried him. For they said, "He is the son of Jehoshaphat, (C3)who sought the LORD with all his heart." So there was no one of the house of Ahaziah to retain the power of the kingdom.10 (C1)Now when Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, she rose and eliminated all the royal (F1)children of the house of Judah.11 But Jehoshabeath the king's daughter took Joash the son of Ahaziah, and stole him from among the king's sons who were being put to death, and placed him and his nurse in the bedroom. So Jehoshabeath, the daughter of King Jehoram, the wife of Jehoiada the priest (for she was the sister of Ahaziah), hid him from Athaliah so that she would not put him to death.12 He kept himself hidden with them in the house of God for six years while Athaliah reigned over the land.

Grieving over the Destruction of Jerusalem, and Prayer for Help.
1 God, the (C1)nations have (F1)invaded (C2)Your inheritance;
They have defiled Your (C3)holy temple;
They have (C4)laid Jerusalem in ruins.
2 They have given the (C1)dead bodies of Your servants to the birds of the sky as food,
The flesh of Your godly ones to the animals of the earth.
3 They have poured out their blood like water all around Jerusalem;
And there was (C1)no one to bury them.
4 We have become a (C1)disgrace before our neighbors,
An object of derision and ridicule to those around us.
5 (C1)How long, LORD? Will You be angry forever?
Will Your (C2)jealousy (C3)burn like fire?
6 (C1)Pour out Your wrath upon the nations which (C2)do not know You,
And upon the kingdoms which (C3)do not call upon Your name.
7 For they have (C1)devoured Jacob
And (C2)laid waste his (F1)settlement.
8 (C1)Do not (F1)hold us responsible for (F2)the guilty deeds of our forefathers;
Let Your compassion come quickly to (C2)meet us,
For we have (C3)become very low.
9 (C1)Help us, God of our salvation, for the glory of (C2)Your name;
And save us and (F1)(C3)forgive our sins (C4)for the sake of Your name.
10 (C1)Why should the nations say, "Where is their God?"
Let (C2)vengeance for the blood of Your servants which has been shed
Be known among the nations in our sight.
11 Let (C1)the groaning of the prisoner come before You;
According to the greatness of Your (F1)power, let (F2)those who are (C1)doomed to die remain.
12 And return to our neighbors (C1)seven times as much (C2)into their lap
Their (C3)taunts with which they have taunted You, Lord.
13 So we Your people and the (C1)sheep of Your (F1)pasture
Will (C2)give thanks to You forever;
To all generations we will (C3)tell of Your praise.
John 14:15-31
Chapter 14
15 "(C1)If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.
The Holy Spirit
16 "I will ask the Father, and He will give you another (F1)(C1)Helper, so that He may be with you forever;17 the Helper is (C1)the Spirit of truth, (C2)whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him or know Him; but you know Him because He remains with you and will be in you.18 "I will not leave you as orphans; (C1)I am coming to you.19 "(F1)(C1)After a little while, (C2)the world no longer is going to see Me, but you are going to see Me; (C3)because I live, you also will live.20 "(C1)On that day you will know that (C2)I am in My Father, and you are in Me, and I in you.21 "(C1)The one who has My commandments and keeps them is the one who loves Me; and (C2)the one who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and will (C3)reveal Myself to him."22 (C1)Judas (not Iscariot) (*)said to Him, "Lord, what has happened (C2)that You are going to reveal Yourself to us and not to the world?"23 Jesus answered and said to him, "(C1)If anyone loves Me, he will (C2)follow My word; and (C3)My Father will love him, and We (C4)will come to him and make Our dwelling with him.24 "The one who does not love Me (C1)does not follow My words; and (C2)the word which you hear is not Mine, but the Father's who sent Me.
25 "These things I have spoken to you while remaining with you.26 "But the (C1)Helper, the Holy Spirit (C2)whom the Father will send in My name, (C3)He will teach you all things, and (C4)remind you of all that I said to you.27 "(C1)Peace I leave you, My peace I give you; not as the world gives, do I give to you. (F1)(C2)Do not let your hearts be troubled, nor (F2)fearful.28 "(C1)You heard that I said to you, 'I am going away, and (C2)I am coming to you.' If you loved Me, you would have rejoiced (F1)because (C3)I am going to the Father, for (C4)the Father is greater than I.29 "And now (C1)I have told you before it happens, so that when it happens, you may believe.30 "I will not speak much more with you, for (C1)the ruler of the world is coming, and he has (F1)nothing in regard to Me,31 but so that the world may know that I love the Father, (F1)I do exactly as (C1)the Father commanded Me.
