Isaiah 32,33

The Glorious Future

1 Behold, a (C1)king will reign righteously,
And officials will rule justly.

2 Each will be like a (C1)refuge from the wind
And a shelter from the storm,
Like (F1)(C2)streams of water in a dry country,
Like the (C1)shade of a (F2)huge rock in an exhausted land.

3 Then (C1)the eyes of those who see will not be (F1)blinded,
And the ears of those who hear will listen.

4 The (F1)mind of the (C1)rash will discern the (F2)truth,
And the tongue of the stammerers will hurry to speak clearly.

5 No longer will the (C1)fool be called noble,
Or the rogue be spoken of as generous.

6 For a fool speaks nonsense,
And his heart (F1)(C1)inclines toward wickedness:
To practice (C2)ungodliness and to speak error against the LORD,
To (F2)(C3)keep the hungry person unsatisfied
And (F3)to withhold drink from the thirsty.

7 As for a rogue, his weapons are evil;
He (C1)devises wicked schemes
To (C2)destroy the poor with (F1)slander,
(C3)Even though the needy one speaks (F2)what is right.

8 But (C1)the noble person devises noble plans;
And by noble plans he stands.

9 Rise up, you (C1)women who are at ease,
And hear my voice;
(C2)Listen to my word,
You complacent daughters.

10 Within a year and a few days
You will be troubled, you complacent daughters;
(C1)For the vintage is ended,
And the fruit gathering will not come.

11 Tremble, you women who are at ease;
(C1)Be troubled, you complacent daughters;
(C2)Strip, undress, and put sackcloth on your waist,

12 (C1)Beat your breasts for the pleasant fields, for the fruitful vine,

13 (C1)For the land of my people in which thorns and briars will come up;
Indeed, for all the joyful houses and for the (C2)jubilant city.

14 For (C1)the palace has been neglected, the (F1)populated (C2)city abandoned.
(F2)Hill and watch-tower have become (C3)caves forever,
A delight for (C4)wild donkeys, a pasture for flocks,

15 Until the (C1)Spirit is poured out upon us from on high,
And the wilderness becomes a (C2)fertile field,
And the fertile field is considered as a forest.

16 Then (C1)justice will dwell in the wilderness,
And righteousness will remain in the fertile field.

17 And the (C1)work of righteousness will be peace,
And the service of righteousness, (C2)quietness and (F1)confidence forever.

18 Then my people will live in a (C1)peaceful settlement,
In secure dwellings, and in undisturbed (C2)resting places;

19 And it will (C1)hail when the (C2)forest comes down,
And (C3)the city will be utterly laid low.

20 How (C1)blessed will you be, you who sow beside all waters,
Who (F1)let the ox and the donkey out freely.

The Judgment of God

1 Woe (C1)to you, destroyer,
While you were not destroyed;
And he (C2)who is treacherous, while others did not deal treacherously with him.
As soon as you finish destroying, (C3)you will be destroyed;
As soon as you cease to deal treacherously, others will (C4)deal treacherously with you.

2 LORD, (C1)be gracious to us; we have (C2)waited for You.
Be (F1)their (F2)(C3)strength every morning,
Our salvation also in the (C4)time of distress.

3 At the sound of a roar, (C1)peoples flee;
At the (C2)lifting up of Yourself, nations disperse.

4 Your plunder is gathered as the caterpillar gathers;
Like an infestation of locusts, people storm it.

5 The LORD is (C1)exalted, for He dwells on high;
He has (C2)filled Zion with justice and righteousness.

6 And He will be the (F1)(C1)stability of your times,
A (C2)wealth of salvation, wisdom, and (C3)knowledge;
The (C4)fear of the LORD is his treasure.

7 Behold, their brave men cry out (F1)in the streets,
The (F2)(C1)ambassadors of peace weep bitterly.

8 The highways are desolate, (F1)the (C1)traveler has ceased,
He has (C2)broken the covenant, he has despised the cities,
He has no regard for mankind.

9 (C1)The land mourns and wastes away,
(C2)Lebanon is shamed and withers;
(C3)Sharon is like a desert plain,
And Bashan and Carmel (F1)lose their foliage.

10 "Now (C1)I will arise," says the LORD,
"Now I will be exalted, now I will be lifted up.

11 "You have (C1)conceived (F1)chaff, you will give birth to stubble;
(F2)My (C2)breath will consume you like a fire.

12 "The peoples will be burned to lime,
(C1)Like cut thorns which are burned in the fire.

13 "You who are far away, (C1)hear what I have done;
And you who are near, (F1)acknowledge My might."

14 (C1)Sinners in Zion are terrified;
(C2)Trembling has seized the godless.
"Who among us can live with (C3)the consuming fire?
Who among us can live with everlasting (C4)burning?"

15 One who (C1)walks righteously and speaks with integrity,
One who rejects (F1)unjust gain
And shakes his hands so that they hold no bribe;
One who stops his ears from hearing about bloodshed
And (C2)shuts his eyes from looking at evil;

16 He will dwell on the heights,
(C1)His refuge will be the (F1)impregnable rock;
(C2)His bread will be given him,
His water will be sure.

17 Your eyes will see (C1)the King in His beauty;
They will see (C2)a distant land.

18 Your heart will meditate on (C1)terror:
"Where is (C2)one who counts?
Where is one who weighs?
Where is one who counts the towers?"

19 You will no longer see a fierce people,
A people of (F1)(C1)unintelligible speech (F2)which no one comprehends,
Of a stammering tongue (F3)which no one understands.

20 (C1)Look at Zion, the city of our appointed feasts;
Your eyes will see Jerusalem, an (C2)undisturbed settlement,
(C3)A tent which will not be folded;
Its stakes will never be pulled up,
Nor any of its ropes be torn apart.

21 But there the majestic One, the LORD, will be for us
A place of (C1)rivers and wide canals
On which no boat with oars will go,
And on which no mighty ship will pass—

22 For the LORD is our (C1)judge,
The LORD is (C2)our lawgiver,
The LORD is (C3)our king;
(C4)He will save us—

23 Your ship's tackle hangs slack;
It cannot hold the base of its mast firmly,
Nor spread out the sail.
Then the (C1)prey of an abundant spoil will be divided;
(C2)Those who limp will take the plunder.

24 And no resident will say, "I am (C1)sick";
The people who live (F1)there will be (C2)forgiven their wrongdoing.

Romans 3

Chapter 3

All the World Guilty

1 Then what (F1)advantage does the Jew have? Or what is the benefit of circumcision?2 Great in every respect. First, that (C1)they were entrusted with the (C2)actual words of God.3 What then? If (C1)some (F1)did not believe, their (F2)unbelief will not nullify the faithfulness of God, will it?4 (F1)(C1)Far from it! Rather, God must prove to be true, though every person be found (C2)a liar, as it is written:

"(C3)SO THAT YOU ARE JUSTIFIED IN YOUR WORDS,
AND PREVAIL (F2)WHEN YOU ARE JUDGED."

5 But if our unrighteousness (F1)(C1)demonstrates the righteousness of God, (C2)what shall we say? The God who inflicts wrath is not unrighteous, is He? ((C3)I am speaking from a human viewpoint.)6 (C1)Far from it! For otherwise, how will (C2)God judge the world?7 But if through my lie (C1)the truth of God abounded to His glory, (C2)why am I also still being judged as a sinner?8 And why not say (just as we are slanderously reported and as some claim that we say), "(C1)Let's do evil that good may come of it"? (F1)Their condemnation is deserved.

9 What then? (F1)(C1)Are we better than they? Not at all; for we have already charged that both (C2)Jews and (C3)Greeks are (C4)all under sin;10 as it is written:

"(C1)THERE IS NO RIGHTEOUS PERSON, NOT EVEN ONE;

11 THERE IS NO ONE WHO UNDERSTANDS,
THERE IS NO ONE WHO SEEKS OUT GOD;

12 THEY HAVE ALL TURNED ASIDE, TOGETHER THEY HAVE BECOME (F1)CORRUPT;
THERE IS NO ONE WHO DOES GOOD,
THERE IS NOT EVEN ONE."

13 "(C1)THEIR THROAT IS AN OPEN GRAVE,
WITH THEIR TONGUES THEY KEEP DECEIVING,"
"(C2)THE VENOM OF (F1)ASPS IS UNDER THEIR LIPS";

14 "(C1)THEIR MOUTH IS FULL OF CURSING AND BITTERNESS";

15 "(C1)THEIR FEET ARE SWIFT TO SHED BLOOD,

16 DESTRUCTION AND MISERY ARE IN THEIR PATHS,

17 AND THEY HAVE NOT KNOWN THE WAY OF PEACE."

18 "(C1)THERE IS NO FEAR OF GOD BEFORE THEIR EYES."

19 Now we know that whatever the (C1)Law says, it speaks to (C2)those who are (F1)under the Law, so that every mouth may be closed and (C3)all the world may become accountable to God;20 because (C1)by the works (F1)of the Law (F2)none of mankind will be justified in His sight; for (F3)(C2)through the Law comes (F4)knowledge of sin.

Justification by Faith

21 But now apart (F1)from the Law (C1)the righteousness of God has been revealed, being (C2)witnessed by the (F2)Law and the Prophets,22 but it is the (C1)righteousness of God through (C2)faith (C3)in Jesus Christ for (C4)all those (F1)who believe; for (C5)there is no distinction,23 for all (F1)(C1)have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,24 being justified as a gift (C1)by His grace through (C2)the redemption which is in Christ Jesus,25 whom God displayed publicly as (C1)a (F1)propitiation (F2)(C2)in His blood through faith. This was to demonstrate His righteousness, (F3)because in God's merciful (C3)restraint He (C4)let the sins previously committed go unpunished;26 for the demonstration, that is, of His righteousness at the present time, so that He would be just and the justifier of the one who (F1)has faith in Jesus.

27 Where then is (C1)boasting? It has been excluded. By (C2)what kind of law? Of works? No, but by a law of faith.28 (F1)For (C1)we maintain that a person is justified by faith apart from works (F2)of the Law.29 Or (C1)is God the God of Jews only? Is He not the God of Gentiles also? Yes, of Gentiles also,30 since indeed (C1)God (C2)who will justify the (F1)circumcised (F2)by faith and the (F3)uncircumcised through faith (C3)is one.

31 Do we then nullify (F1)the Law through faith? (C1)Far from it! On the contrary, we (C2)establish the Law.
