Chapter 35
The Passover Held Again
1 Then Josiah (C1)celebrated the Passover to the LORD in Jerusalem, and (C2)they slaughtered the Passover animals on the fourteenth day of the first month.2 He appointed the priests to their offices and (C1)encouraged them in the service of the house of the LORD.3 He also said to (C1)the Levites who taught all Israel and who were holy to the LORD, "Put the holy ark in the house which Solomon the son of David king of Israel built; (C2)it will not be a burden on your shoulders. Now serve the LORD your God and His people Israel.4 "(C1)Prepare yourselves by your fathers' households in your divisions, according to the writing of David king of Israel and (C2)according to the writing of his son Solomon.5 "Furthermore, (C1)stand in the holy place according to the sections of the fathers' households of your countrymen, the (F1)lay people, and according to the Levites, by division of a father's household.6 "Now (C1)slaughter the Passover animals, (C2)keep one another consecrated, and prepare for your countrymen to act in accordance with the word of the LORD by Moses."
7 Josiah contributed to the lay people, to all who were present, flocks of lambs and young goats, all for the Passover offerings, numbering thirty thousand, plus three thousand bulls; these were from the king's property.8 His officers also contributed a (F1)voluntary offering to the people, the priests, and the Levites. Hilkiah, Zechariah, and Jehiel, (C1)the officials of the house of God, gave the priests 2,600 from the flocks and three hundred bulls, for the Passover offerings.9 (C1)Conaniah also, and his brothers Shemaiah and Nethanel, and Hashabiah and Jeiel and Jozabad, the officers of the Levites, contributed five thousand from the flocks and five hundred bulls to the Levites for the Passover offerings.
10 So the service was prepared, and (C1)the priests stood at their positions and the Levites by their divisions according to the king's command.11 (F1)(C1)They slaughtered the Passover animals, and while (C2)the priests (F2)sprinkled the blood received from their hand, (C3)the Levites skinned the animals.12 Then they removed the burnt offerings so that they might give them to the sections of the fathers' households of the lay people to present to the LORD, as it is written in the Book of Moses. They did this with the bulls as well.13 So (C1)they roasted the Passover animals on the fire according to the ordinance, and they boiled (C2)the holy things in pots, in kettles, and in pans and carried them quickly to all the lay people.14 Afterward they prepared for themselves and for the priests, because the priests, the sons of Aaron, were offering the burnt offerings and the fat until night; so the Levites prepared for themselves and for the priests, the sons of Aaron.15 The singers, the sons of Asaph, were also at their positions (C1)according to the command of David, Asaph, Heman, and Jeduthun the king's seer; and (C2)the gatekeepers at each gate did not have to leave their service, because their kinsmen the Levites prepared for them.
16 So all the service of the LORD was prepared on that day to celebrate the Passover, and to offer burnt offerings on the altar of the LORD according to the command of King Josiah.17 And (C1)the sons of Israel who were present celebrated the Passover at that time, and the Feast of Unleavened Bread for seven days.18 (C1)There had not been a Passover celebrated like it in Israel since the days of Samuel the prophet; nor had any of the kings of Israel celebrated such a Passover as Josiah did with the priests, the Levites, all Judah and Israel who were present, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem.19 In the eighteenth year of Josiah's reign this Passover was celebrated.
Josiah Dies in Battle
20 (C1)After all this, when Josiah had set the (F1)temple in order, Neco king of Egypt came up to wage war at (C2)Carchemish on the Euphrates, and Josiah went out to engage him.21 But (F1)Neco sent messengers to him, saying, "(F2)(C1)What business do you have with me, King of Judah? I am not coming against you today, but against the house with which I am at war, and God has told me to hurry. For your own sake, stop interfering with God who is with me, so that He does not destroy you."22 However, Josiah would not turn (F1)away from him, but (C1)disguised himself in order to fight against him; nor did he listen to the words of Neco (C2)from the mouth of God, but he came to wage war on the plain of (C3)Megiddo.23 The archers shot King Josiah, and the king said to his servants, "Take me away, for I am badly wounded."24 So his servants took him out of the chariot and carried him on the second chariot which he had, and brought him to Jerusalem (F1)where he died and was buried in the tombs of his fathers. (C1)All Judah and Jerusalem mourned for Josiah.25 Then (C1)Jeremiah chanted a song of mourning for Josiah. And all the male and female singers speak about Josiah in their songs of mourning to this day. And they made them an ordinance in Israel; behold, they are also written in the Lamentations.26 Now the rest of the acts of Josiah and his deeds of devotion as written in the Law of the LORD,27 and his acts, the first to the last, behold, they are written in the Book of the Kings of Israel and Judah.
Psalms 89:38-52
Chapter 89
38 But You have (C1)rejected and (C2)refused,
You have been full of wrath (F1)against Your (C3)anointed.
39 You have (F1)(C1)repudiated the covenant of Your servant;
You have (C2)profaned (C3)his crown (F2)in the dust.
40 You have (C1)broken down all his walls;
You have (C2)brought his strongholds to ruin.
41 (C1)All who pass along the way plunder him;
He has become a (C2)disgrace to his neighbors.
42 You have (C1)exalted the right hand of his adversaries;
You have (C2)made all his enemies rejoice.
43 You also turn back the edge of his sword,
And have (C1)not made him stand in battle.
44 You have put an end to his (F1)(C1)splendor
And cast his throne to the ground.
45 You have (C1)shortened the days of his youth;
You have (C2)covered him with shame. Selah
46 (C1)How long, LORD?
Will You hide Yourself forever?
Will Your (C2)wrath burn like fire?
47 (C1)Remember (F1)what my lifespan is;
For what (C2)futility (F2)You have created all the sons of mankind!
48 What man can live and not (C1)see death?
Can he (C2)save his soul from the (F1)power of (F2)Sheol? Selah
49 Where are Your former acts of favor, Lord,
Which You (C1)swore to David in Your faithfulness?
50 Remember, Lord, the (C1)taunt against Your servants;
(F1)How I carry in my heart the taunts of all the many peoples,
51 With which (C1)Your enemies have taunted, LORD,
With which they have taunted the footsteps of (C2)Your anointed.
52 (C1)Blessed be the LORD forever!
Amen and Amen.

Chapter 2
Christ Is Our Advocate
1 (C1)My little children, I am (C2)writing these things to you so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, (C3)we have an (F1)(C4)Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous;2 and He Himself is (C1)the (F1)propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also (C2)for the sins of the whole world.
3 (C1)By this we know that we have come to (C2)know Him, if we (C3)keep His commandments.4 The one who says, "(C1)I have come to (C2)know Him," and does not keep His commandments, is a (C3)liar, and (C4)the truth is not in him;5 but whoever (C1)follows His word, in him the (C2)love of God has truly been perfected. (C3)By this we know that we are in Him:6 the one who says that he (C1)remains in Him (C2)ought, himself also, to walk just as He walked.
7 (C1)Beloved, I am (C2)not writing a new commandment to you, but an old commandment which you have had (C3)from the beginning; the old commandment is the word which you have heard.8 (F1)On the other hand, I am writing (C1)a new commandment to you, which is true in Him and in you, because (C2)the darkness is passing away and (C3)the true Light is already shining.9 The one who says that he is in the Light and yet (C1)hates his (C2)brother or sister is in the darkness until now.10 (C1)The one who loves his brother and sister remains in the Light, and there is nothing in him to cause stumbling.11 But the one who (C1)hates his brother or sister is in the darkness and (C2)walks in the darkness, and does not know where he is going because the darkness has (C3)blinded his eyes.
12 I am writing to you, (C1)little children, because (C2)your sins have been forgiven you on account of His name.13 I am writing to you, fathers, because you know Him (C1)who has been from the beginning. I am writing to you, young men, because (C2)you have overcome (C3)the evil one. I have written to you, children, because (C4)you know the Father.14 I have written to you, fathers, because you know Him (C1)who has been from the beginning. I have written to you, young men, because you are (C2)strong, and the (C3)word of God remains in you, and (C4)you have overcome the evil one.
Do Not Love the World
15 Do not love (C1)the world nor the things in the world. (C2)If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.16 For all that is in the world, (C1)the lust of the flesh and (C2)the lust of the eyes and (C3)the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world.17 (C1)The world is passing away and also its lusts; but the one who (C2)does the will of God continues to live forever.
18 Children, (C1)it is the last hour; and just as you heard that (C2)antichrist is coming, (C3)even now many antichrists have appeared; from this we know that it is the last hour.19 (C1)They went out from us, but they were not really of us; for if they had been of us, they would have remained with us; but they went out, (C2)so that (F1)it would be evident that they all are not of us.20 (F1)But you have an (C1)anointing from (C2)the Holy One, and (C3)you all know.21 I have not written to you because you do not know the truth, but (C1)because you do know it, and (F1)because no lie is (C2)of the truth.22 Who is the liar except (C1)the one who denies that Jesus is the (F1)Christ? This is (C2)the antichrist, the one who denies the Father and the Son.23 (C1)Whoever denies the Son does not have the Father; the one who confesses the Son has the Father also.24 As for you, see that what you heard (C1)from the beginning remains in you. If what you heard from the beginning remains in you, you also (C2)will remain in the Son and in the Father.
The Promise Is Eternal Life
25 (C1)This is the promise which He Himself (F1)made to us: eternal life.26 These things I have written to you concerning those who are trying to (C1)deceive you.27 And as for you, the (C1)anointing which you received from Him remains in you, and you have no need for anyone to teach you; but as His anointing (C2)teaches you about all things, and is (C3)true and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, (F1)you remain in Him.
28 Now, (C1)little children, remain in Him, so that when He (C2)appears, we may have (C3)confidence and (C4)not (F1)draw back from Him in shame (F2)at His (C5)coming.29 If you know that (C1)He is righteous, you know that everyone who practices righteousness also (C2)has been born of Him.
