Isaiah 9-10

Chapter 9

Birth and Reign of the Prince of Peace

1 (F1)But there will be no more (C1)gloom for her who was in anguish. In earlier times He (C2)treated the (C3)land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali with contempt, but later on He will make it glorious, by the way of the sea, on the other side of the Jordan, Galilee of the (F2)Gentiles.

2 (F1)(C1)The people who walk in darkness
Will see a great light;
Those who live in a dark land,
The light will shine on them.

3 (C1)You will multiply the nation,
You (C2)will (F1)increase (F2)their joy;
They will rejoice in Your presence
As with the joy (F3)of harvest,
As people (C3)rejoice when they divide the spoils.

4 For (C1)You will break the yoke of their burden and the staff on their shoulders,
The rod of their (C2)oppressor, as (F1)at the battle of (C3)Midian.

5 For every boot of the marching warrior in the roar of battle,
And cloak rolled in blood, will be for burning, fuel for the fire.

6 For a (C1)Child will be born to us, a (C2)Son will be given to us;
And the (C3)government will (F1)rest (C4)on His shoulders;
And His name will be called (C5)Wonderful Counselor, (C6)Mighty God,
Eternal (C7)Father, Prince of (C8)Peace.

7 There will be (C1)no end to the increase of His government or of peace
On the (C2)throne of David and over (F1)his kingdom,
To establish it and to uphold it with (C3)justice and righteousness
From then on and forevermore.
(C4)The zeal of the LORD of armies will accomplish this.

God's Anger with Israel's Arrogance

8 The Lord sends a (F1)message against Jacob,
And it falls on Israel.

9 And all the people know it,
That is, (C1)Ephraim and the inhabitants of Samaria,
Asserting in pride and in (C2)arrogance of heart:

10 "The bricks have fallen down,
But we will (C1)rebuild with smooth stones;
The sycamores have been cut down,
But we will replace them with cedars."

11 Therefore the LORD raises superior adversaries against them from (C1)Rezin
And provokes their enemies,

12 The Arameans from the east and the (C1)Philistines from the west;
And they (C2)devour Israel with (F1)gaping jaws.
(C3)In spite of all this, His anger does not turn away,
And His hand is still stretched out.

13 Yet the people (C1)do not turn back to Him who struck them,
Nor do they (C2)seek the LORD of armies.

14 So the LORD cuts off (C1)head and tail from Israel,
Both palm branch and bulrush (C2)in a single day.

15 The head is (C1)the elder and esteemed man,
And the prophet who teaches (C2)falsehood is the tail.

16 (C1)For those who guide this people are leading them astray;
And those who are guided by them are (F1)confused.

17 Therefore the Lord does (C1)not rejoice over their young men,
(C2)Nor does He have compassion on their (F1)orphans or their widows;
For every one of them is (C3)godless and an (C4)evildoer,
And every (C5)mouth is speaking foolishness.
(C6)In spite of all this, His anger does not turn away,
And His hand is still stretched out.

18 (C1)For wickedness burns like a fire;
It consumes briars and thorns;
It also sets the thickets of the forest aflame
And they roll upward in a column of smoke.

19 By the (C1)wrath of the LORD of armies the (C2)land is burned,
And the (C3)people are like fuel for the fire;
No (C4)one spares his brother.

20 (F1)They devour what is on the right hand but are still (C1)hungry,
And (F2)they eat what is on the left hand, but they are not satisfied;
Each of them eats the (C2)flesh of his own arm.

21 Manasseh devours Ephraim, and Ephraim Manasseh,
(C1)And together they are against Judah.
(C2)In spite of all this, His anger does not turn away
And His hand is still stretched out.

Chapter 10

Assyria Is God's Instrument

1 Woe to those who (C1)enact unjust statutes
And to those who constantly record (F1)harmful decisions,

2 So as (C1)to (F1)deprive the needy of justice
And rob the poor among My people of their rights,
So (C2)that widows may be their spoil
And that they may plunder the (F2)orphans.

3 Now (C1)what will you do in the (C2)day of punishment,
And in the devastation which will come (C3)from afar?
(C4)To whom will you flee for help?
And where will you leave your wealth?

4 Nothing remains but to crouch (F1)among the (C1)captives
Or fall (F1)among those (C2)killed.
(C3)In spite of all this, His anger does not turn away
And His hand is still stretched out.

5 Woe to (C1)Assyria, the (C2)rod of My anger
And the staff in whose hands is (C3)My indignation,

6 I send it against a (C1)godless nation
And commission it against the (C2)people of My fury
To capture spoils and (C3)to seize plunder,
And to (F1)trample them down like (C4)mud in the streets.

7 Yet it (C1)does not so intend,
Nor does (F1)it plan so in its heart,
But rather it is (F2)its purpose to destroy
And to eliminate (F3)many nations.

8 For it says, "Are not my officers (F1)all kings?

9 "Is not (C1)Calno like (C2)Carchemish,
Or (C3)Hamath like Arpad,
Or (C4)Samaria like (C5)Damascus?

10 "As my hand has reached to the (C1)kingdoms of the idols,
Whose carved images were greater than those of Jerusalem and Samaria,

11 Shall I not do the same to Jerusalem and her images
Just as I have done to Samaria and (C1)her idols?"

12 So it will be that when the Lord has completed all His (C1)work on Mount Zion and on Jerusalem, He will say, "I will (F1)punish the fruit of the arrogant heart of the king of Assyria and (C2)the arrogant pride of his eyes."13 For (C1)he has said,

"By the power of my hand and by my wisdom I did this,
Because I have understanding;
And I (C2)removed the boundaries of the peoples
And plundered their treasures,
And like a powerful man I brought down (F1)their inhabitants,

14 And my hand reached to the riches of the peoples like a (C1)nest,
And as one gathers abandoned eggs, I gathered all the earth;
And there was not one that flapped its wing, opened its beak, or chirped."

15 Is the (C1)axe to (C2)boast itself over the one who chops with it?
Is the saw to exalt itself over the one who wields it?
That would be like (C3)a (F1)club wielding those who lift it,
Or like (C3)a rod lifting the one who is not wood.

16 Therefore the Lord, the (F1)GOD of armies, will send a (C1)wasting disease among his (C2)stout warriors;
And under his (C3)glory a fire will be kindled like a burning flame.

17 And the (C1)Light of Israel will become a fire and (F1)Israel's (C2)Holy One a flame,
And it will (C3)burn and devour (F2)his thorns and his briars in a single day.

18 And He will (C1)destroy the glory of his forest and of his fruitful garden, both soul and body,
And it will be as when a sick person wastes away.

19 And the (C1)rest of the trees of his forest will be so small in number
That a child could write them down.

A Remnant Will Return

20 Now on that day the (C1)remnant of Israel, and those of the house of Jacob (C2)who have escaped, will no longer rely on the one who struck them, but will truly (C3)rely on the LORD, the Holy One of Israel.

21 A (C1)remnant will return, the remnant of Jacob, to the (C2)mighty God.

22 For (C1)though your people, Israel, may be like the sand of the sea,
Only a remnant within them will return;
A (C2)destruction is determined, overflowing with righteousness.

23 For a complete destruction, one that is determined, (C1)the Lord (F1)GOD of armies will execute in the midst of the whole land.

24 Therefore this is what the Lord (F1)GOD of armies says: "My people, you who dwell in (C1)Zion, (C2)do not fear the Assyrian (F2)who (C3)strikes you with the rod, and lifts up his staff against you the way Egypt did.25 "For in a very (C1)little while (C2)My indignation against you will be ended and My anger will be directed toward their destruction."26 The LORD of armies will (C1)wield a whip against him like the defeat of (C2)Midian at the rock of Oreb; and His (C3)staff will be over the sea, and He will lift it up (C4)the way He did in Egypt.27 So it will be on that day, that (F1)his (C1)burden will be removed from your shoulders, and his yoke from your neck; and the yoke will be broken because (C2)of fatness.

28 He has come against Aiath,
He has passed through (C1)Migron;
At (C2)Michmash he deposited his (C3)baggage.

29 They have gone through (C1)the pass, saying,
"(C2)Geba will be our encampment for the night."
(C3)Ramah is terrified, and (C4)Gibeah of Saul has fled.

30 Cry aloud with your voice, daughter of (C1)Gallim!
Pay attention, Laishah and (F1)wretched (C2)Anathoth!

31 Madmenah has fled.
The inhabitants of Gebim have sought refuge.

32 Yet today he will halt at (C1)Nob;
He (C2)shakes his fist at the mountain of the (F1)(C3)daughter of Zion, the hill of Jerusalem.

33 Behold, the Lord, the (F1)GOD of armies, will lop off the branches with terrifying power;
Those also who are (C1)tall in stature will be cut down,
And those who are lofty will be brought low.

34 He will cut down the thickets of the forest with an iron axe,
And (C1)Lebanon will fall by the Mighty One.

Psalms 111

Chapter 111

The LORD Praised for His Goodness.

1 (F1)Praise (F2)the LORD!
I (C1)will give thanks to the LORD with all my heart,
In the (C2)company of the upright and in the assembly.

2 (C1)Great are the works of the LORD;
They are (F1)(C2)studied by all who delight in them.

3 (F1)(C1)Splendid and majestic is His work,
And (C2)His righteousness endures forever.

4 He has caused His (F1)wonders (F2)to be remembered;
The LORD is (C1)gracious and compassionate.

5 He has (C1)given (F1)food to those who (F2)fear Him;
He will (C2)remember His covenant forever.

6 He has made known to His people the power of His works,
In giving them the inheritance of the nations.

7 The works of His hands are (F1)(C1)truth and justice;
All His precepts (C2)are trustworthy.

8 They are (C1)upheld forever and ever;
They are performed in (F1)(C2)truth and uprightness.

9 He has sent (C1)redemption to His people;
He has (F1)ordained His covenant forever;
(C2)Holy and (F2)awesome is His name.

10 The (F1)(C1)fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom;
All those who (F2)follow (C2)His commandments have a good understanding;
His (C3)praise endures forever.

Revelation 21-22

Chapter 21

The New Heaven and Earth

1 Then I saw (C1)a new heaven and a new earth; for (C2)the first heaven and the first earth passed away, and there is no longer any sea.2 And I saw (C1)the holy city, (C2)new Jerusalem, (C3)coming down out of heaven from God, (C4)prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne, saying, "Behold, (C1)the tabernacle of God is among the people, and He will (C2)dwell among them, and they shall be His (F1)people, and God Himself will be among them(F2),4 and He will (C1)wipe away every tear from their eyes; and (C2)there will no longer be any death; (C3)there will no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain; (C4)the first things have passed away."

5 And (C1)He who sits on the throne said, "Behold, I am (C2)making all things new." And He (*)said, "Write, for (C3)these words are faithful and true."6 Then He said to me, "(F1)(C1)It is done. I am the (C2)Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. (C3)I will give water to the one who thirsts from the spring of the (C4)water of life, without cost.7 "(C1)The one who overcomes will inherit these things, and (C2)I will be his God and he will be My son.8 "(C1)But for the cowardly, and (F1)unbelieving, and abominable, and murderers, and sexually immoral persons, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, their part will be in (C2)the lake that burns with fire and (F2)brimstone, which is the (C3)second death."

9 (C1)Then one of the seven angels who had the (C2)seven bowls, (F1)full of the (C3)seven last plagues, came and spoke with me, saying, "(C1)Come here, I will show you the (C4)bride, the wife of the Lamb."

The New Jerusalem

10 And (C1)he carried me away (F1)(C2)in the Spirit to a great and high mountain, and showed me (C3)the holy city, Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God,11 having (C1)the glory of God. Her (F1)brilliance was like a very valuable stone, like a (C2)stone of (C3)crystal-clear jasper.12 (F1)It had a great and high wall, (F1)(C1)with twelve (C2)gates, and at the gates twelve angels; and names were written on the gates, which are the names of the twelve tribes of the sons of Israel.13 There were three gates on the east, three gates on the north, three gates on the south, and three gates on the west.14 And the wall of the city had (C1)twelve foundation stones, and on them were the twelve names of the (C2)twelve apostles of the Lamb.

15 The one who spoke with me had a (F1)gold measuring (C1)rod to measure the city, its (C2)gates, and its wall.16 The city is laid out as a square, and its length is as great as the width; and he measured the city with the (F1)rod, (F2)twelve thousand stadia; its length, width, and height are equal.17 And he measured its wall, (F1)144 cubits, by (C1)human (F2)measurements, which are also (C2)angelic measurements.18 The material of the wall was (C1)jasper; and the city was (C2)pure gold, like (F1)clear (C3)glass.19 (C1)The foundation stones of the city wall were decorated with every kind of precious stone. The first foundation stone was (C2)jasper; the second, sapphire; the third, chalcedony; the fourth, (C3)emerald;20 the fifth, sardonyx; the sixth, (C1)sardius; the seventh, chrysolite; the eighth, beryl; the ninth, topaz; the tenth, chrysoprase; the eleventh, jacinth; the twelfth, amethyst.21 And the twelve (C1)gates were twelve (C2)pearls; each one of the gates was a single pearl. And the street of the city was (C3)pure gold, like transparent (C4)glass.

22 I saw (C1)no (F1)temple in it, for the (C2)Lord God the Almighty and the (C3)Lamb are its (F1)temple.23 And the city (C1)has no need of the sun or of the moon to shine on it, for (C2)the glory of God has illuminated it, and its lamp is the (C3)Lamb.24 (C1)The nations will walk by its light, and the (C2)kings of the earth (F1)will bring their glory into it.25 In the daytime (for (C1)there will be no night there) (C2)its gates (C3)will never be closed;26 and (C1)they will bring the glory and the honor of the nations into it;27 and (C1)nothing unclean, and no one who practices abomination and lying, shall ever come into it, but only those (F1)whose names are (C2)written in the Lamb's book of life.

Chapter 22

The River and the Tree of Life

1 And (C1)he showed me a (C2)river of the (C3)water of life, (F1)clear (C4)as crystal, coming from the throne of God and of (F2)the Lamb,2 in the middle of (C1)its street. (C2)On either side of the river was (C3)the tree of life, bearing twelve (F1)kinds of fruit, yielding its fruit every month; and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.3 (C1)There will no longer be any curse; and (C2)the throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and His bond-servants will (C3)serve Him;4 they will (C1)see His face, and His (C2)name will be on their (C3)foreheads.5 And (C1)there will no longer be any night; and they (F1)will not have need (C2)of the light of a lamp nor the light of the sun, because the Lord God will illuminate them; and they will (C3)reign forever and ever.

6 And (C1)he said to me, "(C2)These words are faithful and true"; and the Lord, the (C3)God of the spirits of the prophets, (C4)sent His angel to show His bond-servants the things which must soon take place.

7 "And behold, (C1)I am coming quickly. (C2)Blessed is the one who (F1)keeps (C3)the words of the prophecy of this book."

8 (C1)I, John, am the one who heard and saw these things. And when I heard and saw them, (C2)I fell down to worship at the feet of the angel who showed me these things.9 And (C1)he (*)said to me, "(F1)Do not do that; I am a (C2)fellow servant of yours and of your brothers the prophets, and of those who (F2)keep the words of (C3)this book. Worship God!"

The Final Message

10 And he (*)said to me, "(C1)Do not seal up (C2)the words of the prophecy of this book, (C3)for the time is near.11 "(C1)Let the one who does wrong still do wrong, and the one who is filthy still be filthy; and let the one who is righteous still practice righteousness, and the one who is holy still keep himself holy."

12 "Behold, (C1)I am coming quickly, and My (C2)reward is with Me, (C3)to reward each one as his work (F1)deserves.13 "I am the (C1)Alpha and the Omega, (C2)the first and the last, (C3)the beginning and the end."

14 Blessed are those who (C1)wash their robes, so that they will have the right to (C2)the tree of life, and may (C3)enter the city by the (C4)gates.15 (C1)Outside are the (C2)dogs, the sorcerers, the sexually immoral persons, the murderers, the idolaters, and everyone who loves and practices lying.

16 "(C1)I, Jesus, have sent (C2)My angel to testify to you of these things (F1)(C3)for the churches. I am (C4)the root and the (C5)descendant of David, the bright (C6)morning star."

17 The (C1)Spirit and the (C2)bride say, "Come." And let the one who hears say, "Come." And (C3)let the one who is thirsty come; let the one who desires, take the (C4)water of life without cost.

18 I testify to everyone who hears (C1)the words of the prophecy of this book: if anyone (C2)adds to them, God will add to him (C3)the plagues that are written in (C4)this book;19 and if anyone (C1)takes away from the (C2)words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away his part from (C3)the tree of life and (F1)from the holy city, (C4)which are written in this book.

20 He who (C1)testifies to these things says, "Yes, (C2)I am coming quickly." Amen. (C3)Come, Lord Jesus.

21 (C1)The grace of the Lord Jesus be with (F1)all. Amen.
