Isaiah 11-13

Chapter 11

Righteous Reign of the Branch

1 Then a (C1)shoot will spring from the (C2)stem of Jesse,
And a (C3)Branch from (C4)his roots will bear fruit.

2 The (C1)Spirit of the LORD will rest on Him,
The spirit of (C2)wisdom and understanding,
The spirit of counsel and (C3)strength,
The spirit of knowledge and the fear of the LORD.

3 And He will delight in the fear of the LORD,
And He will not judge by what His eyes (C1)see,
Nor make decisions by what His ears hear;

4 But with (C1)righteousness He will judge the (C2)poor,
And decide with fairness for the (C3)humble of the earth;
And He will strike the earth with the (C4)rod of His mouth,
And with the (C5)breath of His lips He will slay the wicked.

5 Also (C1)righteousness will be the belt around His hips,
And (C2)faithfulness the belt around His waist.

6 And the (C1)wolf will dwell with the lamb,
And the leopard will lie down with the young goat,
And the calf and the young lion (F1)and the fattened steer will be together;
And a little boy will lead them.

7 Also the cow and the bear will graze,
Their young will lie down together,
And the (C1)lion will eat straw like the ox.

8 The nursing child will play by the hole of the cobra,
And the weaned child will put his hand on the viper's den.

9 They will (C1)not hurt or destroy in all My holy mountain,
For the (C2)earth will be full of the knowledge of the LORD
As the waters cover the sea.

10 Then on that day
The (C1)nations will resort to the (C2)root of Jesse,
Who will stand as a (C3)signal flag for the peoples;
And His (C4)resting place will be (F1)glorious.

The Restored Remnant

11 Then it will happen on that day that the Lord
Will again recover with His hand the second time
The (C1)remnant of His people who will remain,
From (C2)Assyria, (C3)Egypt, Pathros, Cush, (C4)Elam, Shinar, Hamath,
And from the (F1)(C5)islands of the sea.

12 And He will lift up a (C1)flag for the nations
And (C2)assemble the banished ones of Israel,
And will gather the dispersed of Judah
From the four corners of the earth.

13 Then the (C1)jealousy of Ephraim will depart,
And those who harass Judah will be eliminated;
Ephraim will not be jealous of Judah,
And Judah will not harass Ephraim.

14 They will (C1)swoop down on the slopes of the Philistines on the (C2)west;
Together they will (C3)plunder the (F1)people of the east;
(F2)They will possess (C4)Edom and (C5)Moab,
And the sons of Ammon will be (F3)subject to them.

15 And the LORD will (F1)(C1)utterly destroy
The tongue of the (F2)Sea of Egypt;
And He will (C2)wave His hand over the (C3)Euphrates River
With His scorching wind;
And He will strike it into seven streams
And make people walk over in dry sandals.

16 And there will be a (C1)highway from Assyria
For the (C2)remnant of His people who will be left,
Just as there was for Israel
On (C3)the day that they came up out of the land of Egypt.

Chapter 12

Thanksgiving Expressed

1 Then you will say on that day,
"(C1)I will give thanks to You, LORD;
For although (C2)You were angry with me,
Your anger is turned away,
And You comfort me.

2 "Behold, (C1)God is my salvation,
I will (C2)trust and not be afraid;
For (C3)the LORD GOD is my strength and song,
And He has become my salvation."

3 Therefore you will joyously (C1)draw water
From the (C2)springs of salvation.

4 And on that day you will (C1)say,
"(C2)Give thanks to the LORD, call on His name.
(C3)Make known His deeds among the peoples;
(F1)Make them remember that His name is exalted."

5 (C1)Praise the LORD in song, for He has done (F1)glorious things;
Let this be known throughout the earth.

6 (C1)Rejoice and shout for joy, you inhabitant of Zion,
For (C2)great in your midst is the Holy One of Israel.

Chapter 13

Prophecies about Babylon

1 The (C1)pronouncement concerning (C2)Babylon which (C3)Isaiah the son of Amoz saw:

2 (C1)Lift up a flag on the (F1)(C2)bare hill,
Raise your voice to them,
(C3)Wave the hand that they may (C4)enter the doors of the nobles.

3 I have commanded My consecrated ones,
I have also called for My (C1)warriors
Who boast in My eminence,
To execute My anger.

4 A (C1)sound of a roar on the mountains,
Like that of many people!
A sound of an uproar of kingdoms,
Of nations gathered together!
The LORD of armies is mustering the army for battle.

5 They are coming from a distant country,
From the (F1)(C1)farthest horizons,
The LORD and the weapons of His (C2)indignation,
To (C3)destroy the whole land.

Judgment on the Day of the LORD

6 Wail, for the (C1)day of the LORD is near!
It will come as (C2)destruction from (F1)the Almighty.

7 Therefore (C1)all hands will fall limp,
And every human (C2)heart will melt.

8 They will be (C1)terrified,
Pains and anguish will take hold of them;
They will (C2)writhe like a woman in labor,
They will look at one another in astonishment,
Their faces aflame.

9 Behold, (C1)the day of the LORD is coming,
Cruel, with fury and burning anger,
To make the land a desolation;
And He will exterminate its sinners from it.

10 For the (C1)stars of heaven and their constellations
Will not flash their light;
The (C2)sun will be dark when it rises
And the moon will not shed its light.

11 So I will (C1)punish the world for its evil
And the (C2)wicked for their wrongdoing;
I will also put an end to the (C3)audacity of the proud
And humiliate the (C4)arrogance of the (F1)(C5)tyrants.

12 I will make mortal man (C1)scarcer than pure gold
And mankind than the (C2)gold of Ophir.

13 Therefore I will make the (C1)heavens tremble,
And (C2)the earth will be shaken from its place
At the fury of the LORD of armies
In (C3)the day of His burning anger.

14 And it will be that, like a hunted gazelle,
Or like (C1)sheep with no one to gather them,
Each of them will turn to his own people,
And each of them will flee to his own land.

15 Anyone who is found will be (C1)thrust through,
And anyone who is captured will fall by the sword.

16 Their (C1)little ones also will be dashed to pieces
Before their eyes;
Their houses will be plundered
And their wives raped.

Babylon Will Fall to the Medes

17 Behold, I am going to (C1)stir up the Medes against them,
Who will not value silver or (C2)take pleasure in gold.

18 And their bows will (F1)mow down the (C1)young men,
They will not even have compassion on the fruit of the womb,
Nor will their (C2)eye pity (F2)children.

19 And (C1)Babylon, the (C2)beauty of kingdoms, the glory of the Chaldeans' pride,
Will be as when God (C3)overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah.

20 It will (C1)never be inhabited or lived in from generation to generation;
Nor will the (C2)Arab pitch his tent there,
Nor will shepherds allow their flocks to lie down there.

21 But (C1)desert creatures will lie down there,
And their houses will be full of (F1)owls;
Ostriches also will live there, and (F2)shaggy goats will frolic there.

22 (F1)Hyenas will howl in their fortified towers
And jackals in their luxurious (C1)palaces.
Her fateful time also (F2)will soon come,
And her days will not be prolonged.

Psalms 112

Chapter 112

Prosperity of One Who Fears the LORD.

1 (F1)Praise (F2)the LORD!
(C1)Blessed is a person who (F3)fears the LORD,
Who greatly (C2)delights in His commandments.

2 His (F1)(C1)descendants will be mighty (F2)on the earth;
The generation of the (C2)upright will be blessed.

3 (C1)Wealth and riches are in his house,
And his righteousness endures forever.

4 Light shines in the darkness (C1)for the upright;
He is (C2)gracious, compassionate, and righteous.

5 It goes well for a person who (C1)is gracious and lends;
He will (F1)maintain his cause in judgment.

6 For he will (C1)never be shaken;
The (C2)righteous will be (F1)remembered forever.

7 He will not fear (C1)bad news;
His (C2)heart is steadfast, (C3)trusting in the LORD.

8 His (C1)heart is firm, he (C2)will not fear,
(F1)But will (C3)look with satisfaction on his enemies.

9 (F1)He (C1)has given freely to the poor,
His righteousness endures forever;
His (C2)horn will be exalted in honor.

10 The (C1)wicked will see it and be (F1)vexed,
He will (C2)gnash his teeth and (C3)melt away;
The (C4)desire of the wicked will perish.

1 Thessalonians 1

Chapter 1

Giving Thanks for These Believers

1 (C1)Paul, (C2)Silvanus, and (C3)Timothy, To the (C4)church of the Thessalonians in God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ: (C5)Grace to you and peace.

2 (C1)We always give thanks to God for all of you, (C2)making mention of you in our prayers;3 constantly keeping in mind your (C1)work of faith and labor of (C2)love and (F1)(C3)perseverance of hope (F2)in our Lord Jesus Christ in the presence of (C4)our God and Father,4 knowing, (C1)brothers and sisters, beloved by God, (C2)His choice of you;5 for our (C1)gospel did not come to you in word only, but also (C2)in power and in the Holy Spirit and with (C3)full conviction; just as you know (C4)what kind of men we proved to be among you for your sakes.6 You also became (C1)imitators of us and of the Lord, (C2)having received (C3)the word during great affliction with the (C4)joy of the Holy Spirit,7 so that you became an example to all the believers in (C1)Macedonia and (C2)Achaia.8 For (C1)the word of the Lord has (C2)sounded forth from you, not only in (C3)Macedonia and (C4)Achaia, but (C5)in every place the news of your faith toward God has gone out, so that we have no need to say anything.9 For they themselves report about us (F1)as to the kind of (C1)reception we had with you, and how you (C2)turned to God (C3)from (F2)idols to serve (F3)(C4)a living and true God,10 and to (C1)wait for His Son from (F1)heaven, whom He (C2)raised from the dead, that is, Jesus who (C3)rescues us from (C4)the wrath to come.
