Nehemiah 1,2,3
Nehemiah's Grief for the Exiles
1 The words of (C1)Nehemiah the son of Hacaliah.
4 Now when I heard these words, (C1)I sat down and wept and mourned for days; and I was fasting and praying before (C2)the God of heaven.5 I said, "Please, LORD God of heaven, (C1)the great and awesome God, (C2)who keeps the covenant and faithfulness for those who love Him and keep His commandments:6 (C1)let Your ear now be attentive and Your eyes open, to hear the prayer of Your servant which I am praying before You now, day and night, on behalf of the sons of Israel Your servants, (C2)confessing the sins of the sons of Israel which we have committed against You; (C3)I and my father's house have sinned.7 "(C1)We have acted very corruptly against You and have not kept the commandments, nor the statutes, nor the ordinances (C2)which You commanded Your servant Moses.8 "Remember, please, the word which You commanded Your servant Moses, saying, '(C1)If you are unfaithful, I will scatter you among the peoples;9 (C1)but if you return to Me and keep My commandments and do them, though those of you who have been scattered were in the most remote part of the heavens, I (C2)will gather them from there and bring them (C3)to the place where I have chosen to have My name dwell.'10 "(C1)They are Your servants and Your people whom You redeemed by Your great power and by Your strong hand.
11 "Please, Lord, (C1)may Your ear be attentive to the prayer of Your servant and the prayer of Your servants who delight to (F1)revere Your name, and please make Your servant successful today and grant him mercy before this man."
Nehemiah's Prayer Answered
1 And it came about in the month Nisan, (C1)in the twentieth year of King (C2)Artaxerxes, that wine was before him, and (C3)I picked up the wine and gave it to the king. Now I had not been sad in his presence.2 So the king said to me, "Why is your face sad, though you are not ill? (C1)This is nothing but sadness of heart." Then I was very much afraid.3 And I said to the king, "(C1)May the king live forever. Why should my face not be sad (C2)when the city, the (F1)site of my fathers' tombs, is desolate and its gates have been consumed by fire?"4 Then the king said to me, "(F1)What would you request?" (C1)So I prayed to the God of heaven.5 Then I said to the king, "If it pleases the king, and if your servant has found favor before you, I request that you send me to Judah, to the city of my fathers' tombs, that I may rebuild it."6 Then the king said to me, with the queen sitting beside him, "How long will your journey be, and when will you return?" So it pleased the king to send me, and (C1)I gave him a definite time.7 And I said to the king, "If it pleases the king, let letters be given me (C1)for the governors of the provinces beyond the River, so that they will allow me to pass through until I come to Judah,8 and a letter to Asaph the keeper of the king's (C1)forest, so that he will give me timber to make beams for the gates of (C2)the citadel which is by the (F1)temple, for the wall of the city, and for the house to which I will go." And the king granted them to me because (C3)the good hand of my God was on me.
9 Then I came to (C1)the governors of the provinces beyond the Euphrates River and gave them the king's letters. Now (C2)the king had sent with me officers of the army and horsemen.10 And when (C1)Sanballat the Horonite and Tobiah the Ammonite (F1)official heard about it, it was very displeasing to them that someone had come to seek the welfare of the sons of Israel.
Nehemiah Inspects Jerusalem's Walls
11 So I (C1)came to Jerusalem and was there for three days.12 And I got up in the night, I and a few men with me. I did not tell anyone what my God was putting into my (F1)mind to do for Jerusalem, and there was no animal with me except the animal on which I was riding.13 So I went out at night by (C1)the Valley Gate in the direction of the Dragon's Spring and on to the Dung Gate, and I was inspecting the walls of Jerusalem (C2)which were broken down and its (C3)gates which had been consumed by fire.14 Then I passed on to (C1)the Fountain Gate and (C2)the King's Pool, but there was no place for (F1)my mount to pass.15 So I was going up at night by the (C1)ravine and inspecting the wall. Then I entered the Valley Gate again and returned.16 However, the officials did not know where I had gone or what I was doing; nor had I as yet told the Jews, the priests, the nobles, the officials, or the rest who were doing the work.
17 Then I said to them, "You see the bad situation we are in, that (C1)Jerusalem is desolate and its gates have been burned by fire. Come, let's rebuild the wall of Jerusalem so that we will no longer be a disgrace."18 And I told them how the hand of my God had been favorable to me and also about the king's words which he had spoken to me. Then they said, "Let's arise and build." (C1)So they put their hands to the good work.19 But when Sanballat the Horonite and Tobiah the Ammonite (F1)official, and (C1)Geshem the Arab heard about it, (C2)they mocked us and despised us, and said, "What is this thing that you are doing? (C1)Are you rebelling against the king?"20 So I answered them and said to them, "(C1)The God of heaven will make us successful; therefore we His servants will arise and build, (C2)but you have no part, right, or memorial in Jerusalem."
Builders of the Walls
1 Then (C1)Eliashib the high priest arose with his brothers the priests and built (C2)the Sheep Gate; they consecrated it and (C3)installed its doors. They consecrated (F1)the wall to (C4)the Tower of the Hundred and (C5)the Tower of Hananel.2 And next to him (C1)the men of Jericho built, and next to (F1)them Zaccur the son of Imri built.
3 Now the sons of Hassenaah built (C1)the Fish Gate; they laid its beams and installed its doors with its bolts and bars.4 Next to them Meremoth the son of Uriah the son of Hakkoz made repairs. And next to (F1)him Meshullam the son of Berechiah the son of Meshezabel made repairs. And next to him Hananiah, one of the perfumers, made repairs, and they restored Jerusalem as far as (C2)the Broad Wall.9 And next to them Rephaiah the son of Hur, (C1)the official of half the district of Jerusalem, made repairs.10 Next to them Jedaiah the son of Harumaph made repairs opposite his house. And next to him Hattush the son of Hashabneiah made repairs.11 Malchijah the son of Harim and Hasshub the son of Pahath-moab repaired another section and (C1)the Tower of Furnaces.12 Next to him Shallum the son of Hallohesh, (C1)the official of half the district of Jerusalem, made repairs, he and his daughters.
13 Hanun and the inhabitants of Zanoah repaired (C1)the Valley Gate. They built it and installed its doors with its bolts and its bars, and a (F1)thousand cubits of the wall to the Dung Gate.
14 And Malchijah the son of Rechab, the official of the district of (C1)Beth-haccherem repaired the (C2)Dung Gate. He built it and installed its doors with its bolts and its bars.
15 Shallum the son of Col-hozeh, the official of the district of Mizpah, (C1)repaired the Fountain Gate. He built it, made a roof for it, and installed its doors with its bolts and its bars, and the wall of the Pool of Shelah at (C2)the king's garden as far as (C3)the steps that descend from the city of David.16 After him Nehemiah the son of Azbuk, (C1)official of half the district of Beth-zur, made repairs as far as a point opposite the tombs of David, and as far as (C2)the (F1)artificial pool and the house of the mighty men.17 After him the Levites carried out repairs under Rehum the son of Bani. Next to him Hashabiah, the official of half the district of Keilah, carried out repairs for his district.18 After him their brothers carried out repairs under Bavvai the son of Henadad, official of the other half of the district of Keilah.19 And next to him Ezer the son of Jeshua, (C1)the official of Mizpah, repaired (F1)another section in front of the ascent of the armory (C2)at the Angle.20 After him Baruch the son of Zabbai zealously repaired another section, from the Angle to the doorway of the house of (C1)Eliashib the high priest.21 After him Meremoth the son of Uriah the son of Hakkoz repaired another section, from the doorway of Eliashib's house even as far as the end of (F1)his house.22 And after him the priests, (C1)the men of the (F1)vicinity, carried out repairs.23 After (F1)them Benjamin and Hasshub carried out repairs in front of their house. After (F1)them Azariah the son of Maaseiah, son of Ananiah, carried out repairs beside his house.24 After him Binnui the son of Henadad repaired another section, from the house of Azariah as far as (C1)the Angle and as far as the corner.25 Palal the son of Uzai made repairs in front of the Angle and the tower projecting from the upper house of the king, which is by (C1)the courtyard of the guard. After him Pedaiah the son of Parosh made repairs.26 Now (C1)the temple servants living in (C2)Ophel made repairs as far as the front of (C3)the Water Gate toward the east and the projecting tower.27 After (F1)them (C1)the Tekoites repaired another section in front of the great projecting tower and as far as the wall of Ophel.
28 Above (C1)the Horse Gate the priests carried out repairs, each in front of his house.29 After (F1)them Zadok the son of Immer carried out repairs in front of his house. And after him Shemaiah the son of Shecaniah, the keeper of the East Gate, carried out repairs.30 After him Hananiah the son of Shelemiah, and Hanun the sixth son of Zalaph, repaired another section. Revelation 16
Chapter 16
The Bowls of Wrath
1 Then I heard a loud voice from (C1)the (F1)temple, saying to the (C2)seven angels, "Go and (C3)pour out on the earth the seven bowls of the wrath of God."
2 So the first angel went and poured out his bowl (C1)on the earth; and a harmful and painful (C2)sore (F1)afflicted the people (C3)who had the mark of the beast and who worshiped his image.
3 The second angel poured out his bowl (C1)into the sea, and it became blood like that of a dead man; and every living (F1)thing in the sea died.
4 Then the third angel poured out his bowl into the (C1)rivers and the springs of waters; and they (C2)became blood.5 And I heard the angel of the waters saying, "(C1)Righteous are You, (C2)the One who is and who was, O (C3)Holy One, because You (C4)judged these things;6 for they poured out (C1)the blood of saints and prophets, and You have given them (C2)blood to drink. They (F1)deserve it."7 And I heard (C1)the altar saying, "Yes, (C2)Lord God, the Almighty, (C3)true and righteous are Your judgments."
8 And the fourth angel poured out his bowl upon (C1)the sun, (C2)and it was given power to scorch people with fire.9 And the people were scorched with (F1)fierce heat; and they (C1)blasphemed the name of God who has the power over these plagues, and they (C2)did not repent so as to (C3)give Him glory.
10 And the fifth angel poured out his bowl on the (C1)throne of the beast, and his kingdom became (C2)darkened; and they gnawed their tongues because of pain,11 and they (C1)blasphemed the (C2)God of heaven because of their pain and their (C3)sores; and they (C4)did not repent of their deeds.
12 The sixth angel poured out his bowl on the (C1)great river, the Euphrates; and (C2)its water was dried up, so that (C3)the way would be prepared for the kings (C4)from the (F1)east.
Har-Magedon (Armageddon)
13 And I saw coming out of the mouth of the (C1)dragon, and out of the mouth of the (C2)beast, and out of the mouth of the (C3)false prophet, three (C4)unclean spirits like (C5)frogs;14 for they are (C1)spirits of demons, (C2)performing signs, which go out to the kings of the (C3)entire (F1)world, to (C4)gather them together for the war of the (C5)great day of God, the Almighty.15 ("Behold, (C1)I am coming like a thief. (C2)Blessed is the one who stays awake and keeps his clothes, (C3)so that he will not walk about naked and people will not see his shame.")16 And they (C1)gathered them together to the place which (C2)in Hebrew is called (C3)Har-Magedon.The Seventh Bowl of Wrath
17 Then the seventh angel poured out his bowl upon (C1)the air, and a (C2)loud voice came out of the (F1)(C3)temple from the throne, saying, "(C4)It is done."18 And there were flashes of (C1)lightning and sounds and peals of thunder; and there was (C2)a great earthquake, (C3)such as there had not been since mankind came to be upon the earth, so great an earthquake was it, and so mighty.19 (C1)The great city (F1)was split into three parts, and the cities of the (F2)nations fell. (C2)Babylon the great was (C3)remembered in the sight of God, to give her (C4)the cup of the wine of (F3)His fierce wrath.20 And (C1)every island fled, and no mountains were found.21 And (C1)huge (F1)hailstones, weighing about (F2)a talent each, (*)came down from heaven upon people; and people (C2)blasphemed God because of the (C3)plague of the hail, because (F3)the hailstone plague (*)was extremely (F4)severe.
