For the choir director. A Psalm of David, when ^[a]Nathan the prophet came to him, after he had gone in to Bathsheba.

^(a)Be gracious to me, O God, according to Your lovingkindness; According to the greatness of ^(b)Your compassion ^(c)blot out my transgressions.

^(d)Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity And ^(e)cleanse me from my sin.

For ^[b]I ^(f)know my transgressions, And my sin is ever before me.

^(g)Against You, You only, I have sinned And done what is ^(h)evil in Your sight, So that ⁽ⁱ⁾You ^[c]are justified ^[d]when You speak And ^[e]blameless when You judge.

Behold, I was ^(j)brought forth in iniquity, And in sin my mother conceived me.

Behold, You desire ^(k)truth in the ^[f]innermost being, And in the hidden part You will ^(l)make me know wisdom.

^[g]Purify me ^(m)with hyssop, and I shall be clean; ^[h]Wash me, and I shall be ⁽ⁿ⁾whiter than snow.

^[i]Make me to hear ^(o)joy and gladness, Let the ^(p)bones which You have broken rejoice.

^(q)Hide Your face from my sins And blot out all my iniquities.

^(r)Create ^[j]in me a ^(s)clean heart, O God, And renew ^[k]a ^(t)steadfast spirit within me.

^(u)Do not cast me away from Your presence And do not take Your ^(v)Holy Spirit from me.

Restore to me the ^(w)joy of Your salvation And sustain me with a ^(x)willing spirit.

Then I will ^(y)teach transgressors Your ways, And sinners will ^[l]be ^(z)converted to You.

Deliver me from ^(aa)bloodguiltiness, O God, ^(ab)the God of my salvation; Then my ^(ac)tongue will joyfully sing of Your righteousness.

O Lord, ^[m](ad)open my lips, That my mouth may ^(ae)declare Your praise.

For You ^(af)do not delight in sacrifice, otherwise I would give it; You are not pleased with burnt offering.

The sacrifices of God are a ^(ag)broken spirit; A broken and a contrite heart, O God, You will not despise.

^(ah)By Your favor do good to Zion; ^[n](ai)Build the walls of Jerusalem.

Then You will delight in ^[o](aj)righteous sacrifices, In ^(ak)burnt offering and whole burnt offering; Then ^[p]young bulls will be offered on Your altar.

Why do you ^(a)boast in evil, O mighty man? The ^(b)lovingkindness of God endures all day long.

Your tongue devises ^(c)destruction, Like a ^(d)sharp razor, ^(e)O worker of deceit.

You ^(f)love evil more than good, ^(g)Falsehood more than speaking what is right. ^[c]Selah.

You love all words that devour, O ^(h)deceitful tongue.

^[d]But God will break you down forever; He will snatch you up and ⁽ⁱ⁾tear you away from your tent, And ^(j)uproot you from the ^(k)land of the living. Selah.

The righteous will ^(l)see and fear, And will ^(m)laugh at him, saying,

"Behold, the man who would not make God his refuge, But ⁽ⁿ⁾trusted in the abundance of his riches And ^(o)was strong in ^[e]his evil desire."

But as for me, I am like a ^(p)green olive tree in the house of God; I ^(q)trust in the lovingkindness of God forever and ever.

I will ^(r)give You thanks forever, because You have done it, And I will wait on Your name, ^(s)for it is good, in the presence of Your godly ones.

^(a)The fool has said in his heart, "There is no God," They are corrupt, and have committed abominable injustice; ^(b)There is no one who does good.

God has looked down from heaven upon the sons of men To see if there is ^(c)anyone who ^[c]understands, Who ^(d)seeks after God.

^(e)Every one of them has turned aside; together they have become corrupt; There is no one who does good, not even one.

Have the workers of wickedness ^(f)no knowledge, Who eat up My people as though they ate bread And have not called upon God?

There they were in great ^[d]fear ^(g)where no ^[e]fear had been; For God ^(h)scattered the bones of ^[f]him who encamped against you; You ⁽ⁱ⁾put them to shame, because ^(j)God had rejected them.

Oh, that ^(k)the salvation of Israel ^[g]would come out of Zion! When God ^[h]restores His captive people, ^[i]Let Jacob rejoice, let Israel be glad.

For the choir director; on stringed instruments. A ^[a]Maskil of David, ^[b]when the Ziphites came and said to Saul, "Is not David hiding himself among us?"

Save me, O God, by ^(a)Your name, And ^[c]vindicate me by ^(b)Your power.

^(c)Hear my prayer, O God; ^(d)Give ear to the words of my mouth.

For strangers have ^(e)risen against me And ^(f)violent men have ^(g)sought my ^[d]life; They have ^(h)not set God before them. ^[e]Selah.

Behold, ⁽ⁱ⁾God is my helper; The Lord is ^[f]the ^(j)sustainer of my soul.

^[g]He will ^(k)recompense the evil to ^[h]my foes; ^[i](l)Destroy them ^(m)in Your ^[j]faithfulness.

^[k](n)Willingly I will sacrifice to You; I will give ^(o)thanks to Your name, O Lord , for it is good.

For ^[l]He has ^(p)delivered me from all ^[m]trouble, And my eye has ^(q)looked with satisfaction upon my enemies.

^(a)Give ear to my prayer, O God; And ^(b)do not hide Yourself from my supplication.

Give ^(c)heed to me and answer me; I am restless in my ^(d)complaint and ^[b](e)am surely distracted,

Because of the voice of the enemy, Because of the ^(f)pressure of the wicked; For they ^(g)bring down ^[c]trouble upon me And in anger they ^(h)bear a grudge against me.

My ⁽ⁱ⁾heart is in anguish within me, And the terrors of ^(j)death have fallen upon me.

Fear and ^(k)trembling come upon me, And ^[d](l)horror has overwhelmed me.

I said, "Oh, that I had wings like a dove! I would fly away and ^[e](m)be at rest.

"Behold, I would wander far away, I would ⁽ⁿ⁾lodge in the wilderness. ^[f]Selah.

"I would hasten to my place of refuge From the ^(o)stormy wind and tempest."

^[g]Confuse, O Lord, ^(p)divide their tongues, For I have seen ^(q)violence and strife in the city.

Day and night they go around her upon her walls, And iniquity and mischief are in her midst.

^(r)Destruction is in her midst; ^(s)Oppression and deceit do not depart from her ^[h]streets.

For it is ^(t)not an enemy who reproaches me, Then I could bear it; Nor is it one who hates me who ^(u)has exalted himself against me, Then I could hide myself from him.

But it is you, a man ^[i]my equal, My ^(v)companion and my ^[j](w)familiar friend;

We who had sweet ^[k]fellowship together ^(x)Walked in the house of God in the throng.

Let ^[l]death come ^(y)deceitfully upon them; Let them ^(z)go down alive to ^[m]Sheol, For evil is in their dwelling, in their midst.

As for me, I shall ^(aa)call upon God, And the Lord will save me.

^(ab)Evening and ^(ac)morning and at ^(ad)noon, I will complain and murmur, And He will hear my voice.

He will ^(ae)redeem my soul in peace ^[n]from the battle which is against me, For they are ^(af)many who strive with me.

God will ^(ag)hear and ^[o]answer them— Even the one ^(ah)who ^[p]sits enthroned from of old— Selah. With whom there ^[q]is no change, And who ^(ai)do not fear God.

He has put forth his hands against ^(aj)those who were at peace with him; He has ^[r](ak)violated his covenant.

His ^[s]speech was ^(al)smoother than butter, But his heart was war; His words were ^(am)softer than oil, Yet they were drawn ^(an)swords.

^(ao)Cast ^[t]your burden upon the Lord and He will sustain you; ^(ap)He will never allow the righteous to ^[u](aq)be shaken.

But You, O God, will bring them down to the ^[v](ar)pit of destruction; ^(as)Men of bloodshed and deceit will ^(at)not live out half their days. But I will ^(au)trust in You.

Be gracious to me, O God, for man has ^[d](a)trampled upon me; ^[e]Fighting all day long he ^(b)oppresses me.

My foes have ^[f](c)trampled upon me all day long, For ^[g]they are many who ^(d)fight proudly against me.

^[h]When I am ^(e)afraid, ^[i]I will ^(f)put my trust in You.

^(g)In God, whose word I praise, In God I have put my trust; I shall not be afraid. ^(h)What can mere ^[j]man do to me?

All day long they ^[k](i)distort my words; All their ^[l](j)thoughts are against me for evil.

They ^[m](k)attack, they lurk, They ^(l)watch my ^[n]steps, As they have ^(m)waited to take my ^[o]life.

Because of wickedness, ^[p](n)cast them forth, In anger ^(o)put down the peoples, O God!

You ^(p)have taken account of my wanderings; Put my ^(q)tears in Your bottle. Are they not in ^(r)Your book?

Then my enemies will ^(s)turn back ^(t)in the day when I call; This I know, ^[q]that ^(u)God is for me.

In God, whose word I praise, In the Lord , whose word I praise,

In God I have put my ^[r]trust, I shall not be afraid. What can man do to me?

Your ^(v)vows are binding upon me, O God; I will render thank offerings to You.

For You have ^(w)delivered my soul from death, ^[s]Indeed ^(x)my feet from stumbling, So that I may ^(y)walk before God In the ^(z)light of the ^[t]living.

Be gracious to me, O God, be gracious to me, For my soul ^(a)takes refuge in You; And in the ^(b)shadow of Your wings I will take refuge Until destruction ^(c)passes by.

I will cry to God Most High, To God who ^(d)accomplishes all things for me.

He will ^(e)send from heaven and save me; He reproaches him who ^[d](f)tramples upon me. ^[e]Selah. God will send forth His ^(g)lovingkindness and His ^[f]truth.

My soul is among ^(h)lions; I must lie among those who breathe forth fire, Even the sons of men, whose ⁽ⁱ⁾teeth are spears and arrows And their ^(j)tongue a sharp sword.

^(k)Be exalted above the heavens, O God; Let Your glory be above all the earth.

They have ^[g]prepared a ^(l)net for my steps; My soul is ^(m)bowed down; They ⁽ⁿ⁾dug a pit before me; They themselves have ^(o)fallen into the midst of it. Selah.

^(p)My ^(q)heart is steadfast, O God, my heart is steadfast; I will sing, yes, I will sing praises!

Awake, ^(r)my glory! Awake, ^(s)harp and lyre! I will awaken the dawn.

^(t)I will give thanks to You, O Lord, among the peoples; I will sing praises to You among the ^[h]nations.

For Your ^(u)lovingkindness is great to the heavens And Your ^[i]truth to the clouds.

^(v)Be exalted above the heavens, O God; Let Your glory be above all the earth.
