A Prayer of David.

^(a)Incline Your ear, O Lord , and answer me; For I am ^(b)afflicted and needy.

^(c)Preserve my ^[a]soul, for I am a ^(d)godly man; O You my God, save Your servant who ^(e)trusts in You.

Be ^(f)gracious to me, O Lord, For ^(g)to You I cry all day long.

Make glad the soul of Your servant, For to You, O Lord, ^(h)I lift up my soul.

For You, Lord, are ⁽ⁱ⁾good, and ^(j)ready to forgive, And ^(k)abundant in lovingkindness to all who call upon You.

^(l)Give ear, O Lord , to my prayer; And give heed to the voice of my supplications!

In ^(m)the day of my trouble I shall call upon You, For ⁽ⁿ⁾You will answer me.

There is ^(o)no one like You among the gods, O Lord, Nor are there any works ^(p)like Yours.

^(q)All nations whom You have made shall come and worship before You, O Lord, And they shall glorify Your name.

For You are ^(r)great and ^(s)do ^[b]wondrous deeds; You alone ^(t)are God.

^(u)Teach me Your way, O Lord ; I will walk in Your truth; ^(v)Unite my heart to fear Your name.

I will ^(w)give thanks to You, O Lord my God, with all my heart, And will glorify Your name forever.

For Your lovingkindness toward me is great, And You have ^(x)delivered my soul from the ^[c]depths of ^[d]Sheol.

O God, arrogant men have ^(y)risen up against me, And ^[e]a band of violent men have sought my ^[f]life, And they have not set You before them.

But You, O Lord, are a God ^(z)merciful and gracious, Slow to anger and abundant in lovingkindness and ^[g]truth.

^(aa)Turn to me, and be gracious to me; Oh ^(ab)grant Your strength to Your servant, And save the ^(ac)son of Your handmaid.

^(ad)Show me a sign for good, That those who hate me may ^(ae)see it and be ashamed, Because You, O Lord , ^(af)have helped me and comforted me.

His ^(a)foundation is in the holy mountains.

The Lord ^(b)loves the gates of Zion More than all the other dwelling places of Jacob.

^(c)Glorious things are spoken of you, O ^(d)city of God. ^[a]Selah.

"I shall mention ^[b](e)Rahab and Babylon ^[c]among those who know Me; Behold, Philistia and ^(f)Tyre with ^[d](g)Ethiopia: ‘This one was born there.'"

But of Zion it shall be said, "This one and that one were born in her"; And the Most High Himself will ^(h)establish her.

The Lord will count when He ⁽ⁱ⁾registers the peoples, "This one was born there." Selah.

Then those who ^(j)sing as well as those who ^[e](k)play the flutes shall say, "All my ^(l)springs of joy are in you."

O Lord , the ^(a)God of my salvation, I have ^(b)cried out by day and in the night before You.

Let my prayer ^(c)come before You; ^(d)Incline Your ear to my cry!

For my ^(e)soul has ^[c]had enough troubles, And ^(f)my life has drawn near to ^[d]Sheol.

I am reckoned among those who ^(g)go down to the pit; I have become like a man ^(h)without strength,

^[e]Forsaken ⁽ⁱ⁾among the dead, Like the slain who lie in the grave, Whom You remember no more, And they are ^(j)cut off from Your hand.

You have put me in ^(k)the lowest pit, In ^(l)dark places, in the ^(m)depths.

Your wrath ⁽ⁿ⁾has rested upon me, And You have afflicted me with ^(o)all Your waves. ^[f]Selah.

You have removed ^(p)my acquaintances far from me; You have made me an ^[g](q)object of loathing to them; I am ^(r)shut up and cannot go out.

My ^(s)eye has wasted away because of affliction; I have ^(t)called upon You every day, O Lord ; I have ^(u)spread out my ^[h]hands to You.

Will You perform wonders for the dead? Will ^(v)the ^[i]departed spirits rise and praise You? Selah.

Will Your lovingkindness be declared in the grave, Your faithfulness in ^[j]Abaddon?

Will Your wonders be made known in the ^(w)darkness? And Your ^[k]righteousness in the land of forgetfulness?

But I, O Lord , have cried out ^(x)to You for help, And ^(y)in the morning my prayer comes before You.

O Lord , why ^(z)do You reject my soul? Why do You ^(aa)hide Your face from me?

I was afflicted and ^(ab)about to die from my youth on; I suffer ^(ac)Your terrors; I am ^[l]overcome.

Your ^(ad)burning anger has passed over me; Your terrors have ^[m](ae)destroyed me.

They have ^(af)surrounded me ^(ag)like water all day long; They have ^(ah)encompassed me altogether.

You have removed ^(ai)lover and friend far from me; My acquaintances are in darkness.

I will ^(a)sing of the lovingkindness of the Lord forever; To all generations I will ^(b)make known Your ^(c)faithfulness with my mouth.

For I have said, "^(d)Lovingkindness will be built up forever; In the heavens You will establish Your ^(e)faithfulness."

"I have made a covenant with ^(f)My chosen; I have ^(g)sworn to David My servant,

I will establish your ^(h)seed forever And build up your ⁽ⁱ⁾throne to all generations." ^[d]Selah.

The ^(j)heavens will praise Your wonders, O Lord ; Your faithfulness also ^(k)in the assembly of the ^(l)holy ones.

For ^(m)who in the skies is comparable to the Lord ? Who among the ^[e](n)sons of the mighty is like the Lord ,

A God ^(o)greatly feared in the council of the ^(p)holy ones, And ^(q)awesome above all those who are around Him?

O Lord God of hosts, ^(r)who is like You, O mighty ^[f] Lord ? Your faithfulness also surrounds You.

You rule the swelling of the sea; When its waves rise, You ^(s)still them.

You Yourself crushed ^[g](t)Rahab like one who is slain; You ^(u)scattered Your enemies with ^[h]Your mighty arm.

The ^(v)heavens are Yours, the earth also is Yours; The ^(w)world and ^[i]all it contains, You have founded them.

The ^(x)north and the south, You have created them; ^(y)Tabor and ^(z)Hermon ^(aa)shout for joy at Your name.

You have ^[j]a strong arm; Your hand is mighty, Your ^(ab)right hand is exalted.

^(ac)Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your throne; ^(ad)Lovingkindness and ^[k]truth go before You.

How blessed are the people who know the ^[l](ae)joyful sound! O Lord , they walk in the ^(af)light of Your countenance.

In ^(ag)Your name they rejoice all the day, And by Your righteousness they are exalted.

For You are the glory of ^(ah)their strength, And by Your favor ^[m]our ^(ai)horn is exalted.

For our ^(aj)shield belongs to the Lord , ^[n]And our king to the ^(ak)Holy One of Israel.

^[o]Once You spoke in vision to Your godly ^[p]ones, And said, "I have ^[q]given help to one who is ^(al)mighty; I have exalted one ^(am)chosen from the people.

"I have ^(an)found David My servant; With My holy ^(ao)oil I have anointed him,

With whom ^(ap)My hand will be established; My arm also will ^(aq)strengthen him.

"The enemy will not ^[r]deceive him, Nor the ^[s](ar)son of wickedness afflict him.

"But I shall ^(as)crush his adversaries before him, And strike those who hate him.

"My ^(at)faithfulness and My lovingkindness will be with him, And in My name his ^(au)horn will be exalted.

"I shall also set his hand ^(av)on the sea And his right hand on the rivers.

"He will cry to Me, ‘You are ^(aw)my Father, My God, and the ^(ax)rock of my salvation.'

"I also shall make him My ^(ay)firstborn, The ^(az)highest of the kings of the earth.

"My ^(ba)lovingkindness I will keep for him forever, And My ^(bb)covenant shall be confirmed to him.

"So I will establish his ^[t](bc)descendants forever And his ^(bd)throne ^(be)as the days of heaven.

"If his sons ^(bf)forsake My law And do not walk in My judgments,

If they ^[u]violate My statutes And do not keep My commandments,

Then I will punish their transgression with the ^(bg)rod And their iniquity with stripes.

"But I will not break off ^(bh)My lovingkindness from him, Nor deal falsely in My faithfulness.

"My ^(bi)covenant I will not ^[v]violate, Nor will I ^(bj)alter ^[w]the utterance of My lips.

"^[x]Once I have ^(bk)sworn by My holiness; I will not lie to David.

"His ^[y](bl)descendants shall endure forever And his ^(bm)throne ^(bn)as the sun before Me.

"It shall be established forever ^(bo)like the moon, And the ^(bp)witness in the sky is faithful." ^[z]Selah.

But You have ^(bq)cast off and ^(br)rejected, You have been full of wrath ^[aa]against Your ^(bs)anointed.

You have ^(bt)spurned the covenant of Your servant; You have ^(bu)profaned ^(bv)his crown ^[ab]in the dust.

You have ^(bw)broken down all his walls; You have ^(bx)brought his strongholds to ruin.

^(by)All who pass along the way plunder him; He has become a ^(bz)reproach to his neighbors.

You have ^(ca)exalted the right hand of his adversaries; You have ^(cb)made all his enemies rejoice.

You also turn back the edge of his sword And have ^(cc)not made him stand in battle.

You have made his ^[ac](cd)splendor to cease And cast his throne to the ground.

You have ^(ce)shortened the days of his youth; You have ^(cf)covered him with shame. Selah.

^(cg)How long, O Lord ? Will You hide Yourself forever? Will Your ^(ch)wrath burn like fire?

^(ci)Remember ^[ad]what my span of life is; For what ^(cj)vanity ^[ae]You have created all the sons of men!

What man can live and not ^(ck)see death? Can he ^(cl)deliver his soul from the ^[af]power of ^[ag]Sheol? Selah.

Where are Your former lovingkindnesses, O Lord, Which You ^(cm)swore to David in Your faithfulness?

Remember, O Lord, the ^(cn)reproach of Your servants; ^[ah]How I bear in my bosom the reproach of all the many peoples,

With which ^(co)Your enemies have reproached, O Lord , With which they have reproached the footsteps of ^(cp)Your anointed.
