Now it happened that while the crowd was pressing around Him and listening to the word of God, He was standing by the lake of Gennesaret;
Luke 5:1
And it came to pass, that, as the people pressed upon him to hear the word of God, he stood by the lake of Gennesaret,
and He saw two boats lying at the edge of the lake; but the fishermen had gotten out of them and were washing their nets.
Luke 5:2
And saw two ships standing by the lake: but the fishermen were gone out of them, and were washing their nets.
And He got into one of the boats, which was Simon's, and asked him to put out a little distance from the land. And He sat down and continued teaching the crowds from the boat.
Luke 5:3
And he entered into one of the ships, which was Simon's, and prayed him that he would thrust out a little from the land. And he sat down, and taught the people out of the ship.
Now when He had finished speaking, He said to Simon, "Put out into the deep water and let down your nets for a catch."
Luke 5:4
Now when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught.
Simon responded and said, "Master, we worked hard all night and caught nothing, but I will do as You say and let down the nets."
Luke 5:5
And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net.
And when they had done this, they caught a great quantity of fish, and their nets began to tear;
Luke 5:6
And when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake.
so they signaled to their partners in the other boat to come and help them. And they came and filled both of the boats, to the point that they were sinking.
Luke 5:7
And they beckoned unto their partners, which were in the other ship, that they should come and help them. And they came, and filled both the ships, so that they began to sink.
But when Simon Peter saw this, he fell down at Jesus' knees, saying, "Go away from me, Lord, for I am a sinful man!"
Luke 5:8
When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus' knees, saying, Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord.
For amazement had seized him and all his companions because of the catch of fish which they had taken;
Luke 5:9
For he was astonished, and all that were with him, at the draught of the fishes which they had taken:
and likewise also were James and John, sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. And Jesus said to Simon, "Do not fear; from now on you will be catching people."
Luke 5:10
And so was also James, and John, the sons of Zebedee, which were partners with Simon. And Jesus said unto Simon, Fear not; from henceforth thou shalt catch men.
When they had brought their boats to land, they left everything and followed Him.
Luke 5:11
And when they had brought their ships to land, they forsook all, and followed him.
