The word of the Lord that he spoke to Jehu was, “Four generations of your sons will sit on the throne of Israel,” and it was so.
This was the word of the LORD which he spoke to Yehu, saying, Your sons to the fourth generation shall sit on the throne of Yisra'el. So it came to pass.
This was the word of the Lord which he spake unto Jehu, saying, Thy sons shall sit on the throne of Israel unto the fourth generation. And so it came to pass.
(This was the promise of the Lord that he gave to Jehu, "Your sons shall sit on the throne of Israel to the fourth generation." And so it came to pass.)
The Lord had told Jehu: "Your sons down to your great-great-grandchildren will be kings of Israel," and the Lord 's word came true.
His assassination brought to fulfillment the Lord 's word to Jehu, "Four generations of your descendants will rule over Israel." That is exactly what happened.
