2 Samuel 19:23

So the king said to Shimei, “You will not die.” Then the king gave him his oath. The king said to Shim`i, You shall not die. The king swore to him. Therefore the king said unto Shimei, Thou shalt not die. And the king sware unto him. Then the king said to Shimei, "You shall not die," and so the king swore to him. And the king said to Shimei, "You shall not die." And the king gave him his oath. Then the king promised Shimei, "You won't die." The king said to Shimei, "You won't die." The king vowed an oath concerning this. Therefore the king said to Shimei, "You shall not be put to death." And so the king gave him his promise. So the king said to Shimei, "You shall not die." The king also swore to him. Therefore the King saide vnto Shimei, Thou shalt not die, & the king sware vnto him. And the king said to Shimei, "You shall not die." Thus the king swore to him. Then David promised Shimei that he would not be killed. But David said, "What do I have in common with you, you sons of Tz'ruyah? Why have you become my adversaries today? Should anyone in Isra'el be put to death today? Don't I know that today I am king over Isra'el?" And the king said to Shimei, Thou shalt not die. And the king swore to him. Then the king said to Shimei, "You will not die." The king made a promise to Shimei that he himself would not kill Shimei. Then the king said to Shimei. You shall not die. And the king swore to him. And he said to Shimei, "I give you my word that you will not be put to death." And the king said to Shimei, You shall not die. And the king swore to him. And ye kynge sayde vnto Simei: Thou shalt not dye? And the kynge sware vnto him. And the king said unto Shimei, Thou shalt not die. And the king sware unto him. So the king said to Shimei, You will not be put to death. And the king gave him his oath. And therfore the kyng sayde vnto Simei, Thou shalt not dye: and the kyng sware vnto hym. And David said: 'What have I to do with you, ye sons of Zeruiah, that ye should this day be adversaries unto me? shall there any man be put to death this day in Israel? for do not I know that I am this day king over Israel?' Therfore the king said vnto Shimei, Thou shalt not die: and the King sware vnto him. And the king said to Semei, Thou shalt not die: and the king swore to him. And the king said unto Shimei, Thou shalt not die. And the king sware unto him. So the king said to Shimei, "You shall not die." Then the king swore an oath to him. And the kyng seide to Semey, Thou schalt not die; and the kyng swoor to hym. And the king saith unto Shimei, `Thou dost not die;' and the king sweareth to him. And the king said to Shimei, You shall not die. And the king swore to him. Therefore the king said to Shimei, Thou shalt not die. And the king swore to him. The king said to Shimei, You shall not die. The king swore to him. Therefore the king said to Shimei, "You shall not die." And the king swore to him. Then, turning to Shimei, David vowed, "Your life will be spared." The king said to Shimei, "You will not die." And the king gave him his promise. The king said to Shimei, "You shall not die." And the king gave him his oath. Then said the king unto Shimei - Thou shalt not die. And the king sware to him. And the king said to Semei: Thou shalt not die. And he swore unto him. And the king said to Shim'e-i, "You shall not die." And the king gave him his oath. And the king says to Shimei, "You do not die"; and the king swears to him. Gill's Notes on the Bible

Therefore the king said unto Shimei, thou shalt not die,.... This day by my hands, or order, or by the sword, 1 Kings 2:8;

and the king sware unto him; that he should not die for that offence, or for that only; but if he committed a new one, this oath was no longer binding on him, and not at all upon his heir and successor.
