THE MESSAGE
"‘Therefore, this is what God , the Master, says: "‘Doom to the city of murder! I, too, will pile on the wood. Stack the wood high, light the match, Cook the meat, spice it well, pour out the broth, and then burn the bones. Then I'll set the empty pot on the coals and heat it red-hot so the bronze glows, So the germs are killed and the corruption is burned off. But it's hopeless. It's too far gone. The filth is too thick.

¹Again in the ninth year [of King Jehoiachin's captivity by Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon], in the tenth month, on the tenth [day] of the month, the word of the LORD came to me, saying, ²"Son of man, record the name of the day, this very day. The king of Babylon has laid siege to Jerusalem this very day. ³"Speak a parable against the rebellious house [of Judah] and say to them, 'Thus says the Lord GOD, "Put on a pot; put it on and also pour water into it; ⁴Put in it the pieces [of meat], Every good piece (the people of Jerusalem), the thigh and the shoulder; Fill it with choice bones. ⁵"Take the choicest of the flock, And also pile wood under the pot. Therefore thus saith the Lord God, woe to the bloody city,....

I will even make the pile for fire great; a large pile of wood, a great quantity of fuel to maintain the fire, and keep the pot boiling; meaning the vast army of the Chaldeans, which the Lord would bring against Jerusalem, which should closely besiege it, and vigorously attack it, until it had executed the fury of the wrath of God, comparable to fire, and of his judgments upon it. The Targum is,

"even I will multiply her destruction.''
