THE MESSAGE
God 's Word came to me, saying, "You, son of man— God , the Master, has this Message for the land of Israel: "‘Endtime. The end of business as usual for everyone. It's all over. The end is upon you. I've launched my anger against you. I've issued my verdict on the way you live. I'll make you pay for your disgusting obscenities. I won't look the other way, I won't feel sorry for you. I'll make you pay for the way you've lived: Your disgusting obscenities will boomerang on you, and you'll realize that I am God .'

Contextual Overview

1Moreover, the word of the LORD came to me, saying,2"Also, son of man, thus says the Lord GOD to the land of Israel, 'An end! The end is coming on the four corners of the land. 3'Now the end is upon you, and I will send My anger against you and will judge you in accordance with your ways and I will bring [retribution for] all your abominations upon you. 4'For My eye will have no pity on you, nor will I spare you, but I will repay you for your evil ways, while your abominations are among you; and you will know (recognize, understand) [without any doubt] that I am the LORD.' 5"Thus says the Lord GOD, 'A disaster is coming, [one so destructive and injurious, so sudden and violent, that it stands alone,] a unique disaster, look it is coming! 6'An end is coming; the end has come! It has awakened against you. Look, it has come! 7'Your doom has come to you, O inhabitant of the land; the time has come, the day is near—tumult rather than joyful shouting on the mountains. 8'Now I will soon pour out My wrath on you and spend My anger against you, and I will judge you in accordance with your ways and will repay you [with punishment] for all your outrageous acts. 9'My eye will show no pity nor will I spare [you]. I will repay you in accordance with your ways, while your abominations are in your midst; then you will know and understand that it is I, the LORD, who strikes you. 10'Behold, the day! Behold, it is coming! Your doom has gone forth, the rod has blossomed, arrogance has sprouted.

Gill's Notes on the Bible

Moreover the word of the Lord came unto me, saying. Or again, as the Arabic version; for this is a distinct prophecy from the former; though of the same kind with it; and was delivered out, either immediately upon the former; or, however, some time between that and the following in the next chapter, which has a date to it. The Targum calls it the word of prophecy from the Lord.

Barnes' Notes on the Bible

A dirge. Supposing the date of the prophecy to be the same as that of the preceding, there were now but four, or perhaps three, years to the final overthrow of the kingdom of Judah by Nebuchadnezzar.

Clarke's Notes on the Bible

CHAPTER VII

This chapter, which also forms a distinct prophecy, foretells

the dreadful destruction of the land of Israel, or Judah, (for

after the captivity of the ten tribes these terms are often

used indiscriminately for the Jews in general,) on account of

the heinous sins of its inhabitants, 1-15;

and the great distress of the small remnant that should escape,

16-19.

The temple itself, which they had polluted with idolatry, is

devoted to destruction, 20-22;

and the prophet is directed to make a chain, as a type of that

captivity, in which both king and people should be led in bonds

to Babylon, 23-27.

The whole chapter abounds in bold and beautiful figures, flowing

in an easy and forcible language.
