Contextual Overview

1 This is what the Lord has said: The doorway of the inner square looking to the east is to be shut on the six working days; but on the Sabbath it is to be open, and at the time of the new moon it is to be open. 2 And the ruler is to go in through the covered way of the outer doorway outside, and take his place by the pillar of the doorway, and the priests will make his burned offering and his peace-offerings and he will give worship at the doorstep of the doorway; then he will go out, and the door will not be shut till the evening. 3 And the people of the land are to give worship at the door of that doorway before the Lord on the Sabbaths and at the new moons. 4 And the burned offering offered to the Lord by the ruler on the Sabbath day is to be six lambs without a mark on them and a male sheep without a mark; 5 And the meal offering is to be an ephah for the sheep, and for the lambs whatever he is able to give, and a hin of oil to an ephah. 6 And at the time of the new moon it is to be a young ox of the herd without a mark on him, and six lambs and a male sheep, all without a mark: 7 And he is to give a meal offering, an ephah for the ox and an ephah for the sheep, and for the lambs whatever he is able to give, and a hin of oil to an ephah. 8 And when the ruler comes in, he is to go in through the covered way of the doorway, and he is to go out by the same way. 9 But when the people of the land come before the Lord at the fixed feasts, he who comes in by the north doorway to give worship is to go out by the south doorway; and he who comes in by the south doorway is to go out by the north doorway: he is not to come back by the doorway through which he went in, but is to go straight before him. 10 And the ruler, when they come in, is to come among them, and is to go out when they go out.

Bible Verse Review
  from Treasury of Scripure Knowledge

Thou shalt daily: It is observable, that there is nothing said about the evening sacrifice, or the additional lamb, morning and evening, on the sabbath, which makes an important difference between this and the old laws; and is probably an intimation of that change in the external forms of religion which the coming of the Messiah should introduce. Exodus 29:38-42, Numbers 28:3-8, Numbers 28:10, Daniel 8:11-13, John 1:29, 1 Peter 1:19, 1 Peter 1:20, Revelation 13:8

of the first year: Heb. a son of his year, Exodus 12:5, Leviticus 12:6

every morning: Heb. morning by morning, Psalms 92:2, Isaiah 50:4

Reciprocal: Exodus 29:39 - in the morning Exodus 29:41 - offer 1 Chronicles 16:40 - To offer

Gill's Notes on the Bible

Thou shalt daily prepare a burnt offering unto the Lord,.... Called the daily sacrifice, Daniel 8:11 typical of Christ's sacrifice, which has a continual daily virtue in it, to take away the sins of his people; and which ought to be looked unto faith, and pleaded by them for that purpose every day John 1:29:

of a lamb of the first year without a blemish; a type of Christ the Lamb of God, without spot and blemish, strong and able, and so fit and proper to be a sacrifice for the sins of others:

thou shalt prepare it every morning; or, "morning by morning" m; this seems to be said not to the prince, but rather to the prophet, and indeed to every believer; who should, every morning he rises, look to Christ as the atoning sacrifice for sin, whose blood continually cleanses from it, and who is always in the midst of the throne as a lamb that had been slain, and ever lives to make intercession; and as the mercies of the Lord's people are renewed every morning, they should renew their thankfulness to God as often, and bring this lamb with them, through whose sacrifice their sacrifices of praise become acceptable. No mention is made of the evening sacrifice; see Exodus 29:38, which some think is included in the morning burnt offering. Kimchi thinks that in future time this was not to be offered, only the morning sacrifice; but the true reason is, Christ has appeared once in the evening of the world, and offered up himself; yea, it was literally in the evening, or decline of the day, when he suffered, or between the two evenings, whereby he answered the type of the passover lamb; hence no evening sacrifice is mentioned, Christ's being offered up.

m בבקר בבקר "in mane, in mane", Montanus, Vatablus.

Barnes' Notes on the Bible

Compare with marginal references. The evening sacrifice is here omitted, because the seer is selecting a few only of the sacrifices of the Law, with a particular object in view.

Clarke's Notes on the Bible

Verse Ezekiel 46:13. Thou shalt prepare it every morning. — The evening offering is entirely omitted, which makes an important difference between this and the old laws. See Exodus 29:31-46.
