¹ And Job made answer and said, ² How long will you make my life bitter, crushing me with words? ³ Ten times now you have made sport of me; it gives you no sense of shame to do me wrong. ⁴ And, truly, if I have been in error, the effect of my error is only on myself. ⁵ If you make yourselves great against me, using my punishment as an argument against me, ⁶ Be certain that it is God who has done me wrong, and has taken me in his net. ⁷ Truly, I make an outcry against the violent man, but there is no answer: I give a cry for help, but no one takes up my cause.

Then Job answered and said. Having heard Bildad out, without giving him any interruption; and when he had finished his oration, he rose up in his own defence, and put in his answer as follows.

CHAPTER XIX

Job complains of the cruelty of his friends, 1-5.

Pathetically laments his sufferings, 6-12.

Complains of his being forsaken by all his domestics, friends,

relatives, and even his wife, 13-19.

Details his sufferings in an affecting manner, calls upon his

friends to pity him, and earnestly wishes that his speeches

may be recorded, 20-24.

Expresses his hope in a future resurrection, 25-27.

And warns his persecutors to desist, lest they fall under

God's judgments, 28, 29.
