God, don't just watch from the sidelines. Come on! Run to my side! My accusers—make them lose face. I'll write the book on your righteousness, talk up your salvation the livelong day, never run out of good things to write or say. I come in the power of the Lord God , I post signs marking his right-of-way.

¹ I run to you, Lord , for protection. Don't disappoint me. ² You do what is right, so come to my rescue. Listen to my prayer and keep me safe. ³ Be my mighty rock, the place where I can always run for protection. Save me by your command! You are my mighty rock and my fortress. ⁴ Come and save me, Lord God, from vicious and cruel and brutal enemies! ⁵ I depend on you, and I have trusted you since I was young. ⁶ I have relied on you from the day I was born. You brought me safely through birth, and I always praise you. ⁷ Many people think of me as something evil. But you are my mighty protector, ⁸ and I praise and honor you all day long. ⁹ Don't throw me aside when I am old; don't desert me when my strength is gone. ¹⁰ My enemies are plotting because they want me dead.

Gill's Notes on the Bible

O God, be not far from me,.... God is everywhere, at hand and afar off, with regard to his being, power, and providence; his glorious presence is in heaven, his gracious presence is with his people; but, when he hides his face, he seems to be at a distance; and this they cannot bear, and therefore deprecate it; see Psalms 10:1;

O my God, make haste for my help; he knew that his help was in God, and that there was none for him elsewhere; and that he could help him when none else could, and was a present help in time of trouble; and it being such a time with him, and his case desperate, he desires the Lord that he would make haste; and he addresses him as his own God, the consideration of which encouraged his faith and hope in him, and carried in it an argument to help him; see Psalms 119:94.
