You are to celebrate a seven-day festival for the Lord. 13Present a burnt offering, a fire offering as a pleasing aroma to the Lord: thirteen young bulls, two rams, and fourteen male lambs a year old. They are to be unblemished. 14Their grain offering is to be of fine flour mixed with oil, six quarts with each of the thirteen bulls, four quarts with each of the two rams, 15and two quarts with each of the fourteen lambs. 16Also offer one male goat as a sin offering. These are in addition to the regular burnt offering with its grain and drink offerings.17“On the second day present twelve young bulls, two rams, and fourteen male lambs a year old—all unblemished— 18with their grain and drink offerings for the bulls, rams, and lambs, in proportion to their number. 19Also offer one male goat as a sin offering. Feast of tabernacles: compare Leviticus 23:33 ff. The offerings required at this feast were the largest of all. It was especially one of thankfulness to God for the gift of the fruits of the earth; and the quantity and the nature of the offerings (see Numbers 29:7-11) were determined accordingly.

Numbers 29:32

Stress is laid on the number seven, the holy symbolic covenant number, by way of intimation that the mercies of the harvest accrued by virtue of God’s covenant. The diminishing number of bullocks sacrificed on the preceding days of the Feast (compare Numbers 29:13, Numbers 29:17, etc.), is adjusted simply to obtain the coincidence before us on the seventh day; but some have thought that the gradual evanescence of the Law until the time of its absorption in the Gospel is here presignified in the Law itself.
