Contextual Overview

1 In the tenth year, in the tenth month , in the twelfth of the month, the Word of Jehovah was to me, saying, 2 Son of man, set your face against Pharaoh king of Egypt, and prophesy against him and against Egypt, all of it. 3 Speak and say, So says the Lord Jehovah: Behold, I am against you, Pharaoh king of Egypt, great monster who lies in the midst of his rivers, who has said, My river is mine, and I, even I, have made it. 4 But I will put hooks in your jaws, and I will cause the fish of your rivers to stick to your scales. And I will bring you up from the midst of your rivers, and all the fish of your rivers shall stick to your scales. 5 And I will leave you to the wilderness, you and all the fish of your rivers. You shall fall on the face of the field, you shall not be removed or gathered. I have given you to the beasts of the field and to the birds of the heavens for food. 6 And all those living in Egypt shall know that I am Jehovah, because they have been a staff of reed to the house of Israel. 7 When they took hold of you by your hand, you crushed and tore off all their shoulder. And when they leaned on you, you shattered and made all their loins stand.

Son of man, set thy face against Pharaoh king of Egypt,.... Pharaoh was a name common to all the kings of Egypt; the name of this king was Pharaohhophra, Jeremiah 44:30, and who, by Herodotus x, is called Apries:

and prophesy against him, and against all Egypt; prophesy of his destruction, and of the destruction of the whole land that is under his dominion.

Clarke's Notes on the Bible

Verse Ezekiel 29:2. Set thy face against Pharaoh king of Egypt — This was Pharaoh-hophra or Pharaoh-apries, whom we have so frequently met with in the prophecies of Jeremiah, and much of whose history has been given in the notes.
